  1. Totally get what you mean mate. While some of the drek I collect seems to be calming down, big books still seem bonkers. I hope you can land that big fish without letting any of your PC go!
  2. Hey all, I’m reaching out for a little advice or guidance… I’m trying to find a definitive source that can tell me all of the variants published for a specific issue/series. I figure this list has to exist somewhere! For context, I’ve been collecting all the covers for The Joker (vol 2) raw. But just when I think I have snagged all the variants for the early issues, I stumble across more on eBay. (Like comic-shop sponsored limited run variants). CLZ data is inaccurate. League of Comic Geeks is incomplete (I’m doing what I can to submit data here)… and I haven’t been able to find a list over at Lunar or DC. Does anyone have any tips?
  3. FBI Director raised the priority of ransomware to the same as terrorism earlier in the year. Email-borne threat rates have gone wild since COVID.
  4. This is great. I like the idea of CGC being more active and present on the boards.
  5. Well you could strike me down with a feather. Thanks very much mate. I appreciate that a lot.
  6. Well, to the original question from Janet, back when I joined the boards, they (strongly) felt like a clique between dealers and those who know each other in person. Today it's spread more between those friendships and those who are more active on the boards. Just like any community, really... If people don't know you and you don't know them, you probably won't interact as much and the interactions be a little more awkward when they do happen. There are a lot of people here... Many strong personalities and the pandemic brought a lot of new blood to the hobby. I love the boards. They're a fantastic resource for knowledge and it is entertaining to read - but I don't contribute a lot because I can't get to the boards every day and things have generally moved on by the time I get there. Every time I post on a topic that was done a day ago, it feels weeeeird. (This one is borderline). Final note is that this is also enhanced a tiny bit by a missing post history (forum upgrades and shifts etc). I'd love to go back and update threads on enduring topics, or add my kudos thread to my signature... But I can't find anything I've posted before 2020.
  7. Hehe - yeah - this is CG afterall… I guess things change with time, but I was still expecting way less “serious” in the responses to this thread and way more adolescent humour from adults.
  8. I was just having a chat with @Wall-Crawler in messenger and, long story short, I said I would buy a 1st print of Batman Damned #1 if CGC had “1st Batawang” or “1st appearance of Bat wang” or similar on the label. Made me wonder what books people would buy if a certain detail was listed on the label?
  9. I know someone who has done exactly that. Notably, within days of also having their third child.
  10. This thread is everyone’s friend: https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/164782-visual-guide-to-mylar-sizes/
  11. I read this awhile back on GoCollect: Source: https://blog.gocollect.com/how-inflation-could-affect-comic-book-collecting-investing/ I know this topic is pretty much all sorted now… but I wanted to add my $0.02 to vouch for E. Gerber. I’m in Australia and have always been looked after.
  12. Somebody set up us the bomb! Man, that brought the memories flooding back!
  13. In AU, I frequently experience it in the morning. (Edit. Like right now). That’s early afternoon (West Coast) or early evening (East Coast). It feels like it’s a load issue.
  14. USPS - they say “due to unavailability of transport” (due to the covids) on their site. Not happy Jan. https://about.usps.com/newsroom/service-alerts/international/welcome.htm
  15. Beautiful new books mate! Looking forward to seeing more of them back from the slabbers!! Congrats on the early sales from store too. Some great issues listed there - I'm not surprised they flew out the door!! What are your thoughts on eBay vs other mediums for selling? For example, have you had much interest in books you've posted up on your IG?
  16. Beauty!! This one is on my shortlist for upcoming books to get in the personal collection. Very cool. This cover is a deadset little ripper! I remember some of the covers that came out with new 52 were just amazing and others were a little bit different, like #40. I'm super into it.
  17. Me too. I picked it up digitally to read and finally got around to reading it last night. I think I need to read it again as I was incredibly tired and I found the story to be a bit meh... I want to give it the benefit of the doubt and give it another read when I'm not shattered. But the art was phenomenal!!
  18. Hi @wytshus / Brian, Nice to meet you. Thanks for the intro and background! Congrats on your new gig and I wish you all the best with it. I live over the pond from you and I've been hopeful that the recent acquisition and commentary around expansion will see an increase in CGC presence over here. 🤞 My name is Dan and I live in a beautiful part of world - Queensland, Australia. Growing up I was mad keen on The Phantom, Batman and Wolverine. Wolverine is a badass, but I loved The Ghost Who Walks and Batman because they were just men. Obviously men with means and resources and support networks, but they were powered by their grit and determination not magic or alien influence. I really appreciated this about Ironman as I got older and got introduced to the character too. I wrote some more on my focuses earlier in the year when I decided to finally start a journal. But, in summary, I'm keen to build a competitive set for The Joker (1975) and I chase 1st appearances of Batman Villains in slabs - which I intend to build a custom set for as I struggled to find an appropriate competitive set in the registry. To scratch my "completionist" itch, I'm chasing The Joker vol 2 (2021) in raw format. Living where I do can be challenging with this hobby - firstly, I'm in a regional area... the nearest comic book shop is about 150 kilometres away and it's not easy for me to get to it around work and family life. It also doesn't stock any CGC books... So, rather than carefully paw through the bins and shelves to curate my collection, I am restricted to buying all my raws online and hoping for the best when it comes to the condition they are in when they arrive. The shop absolutely does their best with the shipping, but they can't be as selective as I would be in person and (like everyone, everywhere) I'm up against it with the post. (Yes, I grind my teeth in my sleep like a deadset champion). In some ways this is true for slabs (in that I also have to buy online). Luckily, I know exactly what I am getting thanks to CGC. The only risk to the transaction is how well they are packed when they are shipped and most reputable sellers pack very well!! It is very rare for me to find a book I am chasing available in Australia, so it is mostly coming from the US or my good mate in Canada. My next challenge is climate. It can get pretty sticky here in summer and we are forever fighting mold on leather or with our clothes in the wardrobe. I found the forums here to be an amazing resource to learn how others around the world are keeping their collections in top condition and I'm pleased to say that while I might have had to turf out a t-shirt here and there, my comic collection is pristine! Thanks for starting this thread. I enjoyed reading your post and also @Sensei Ryan's. I hope more people post responses. I consider this community the best for comic collectors and I'd love to read more back-issues from its members.
  19. Would this still have been announced if I hadn’t sold their app’s and stand alone run last year undervalue?
  20. Oh… damn them. Here I was telling myself I would never spend a cent on skins. If it is in a crate, I am out. edit: PS. Thanks very much for sharing this!!
  21. One time after I found something I had lost, I complained to my wife (quite seriously) “why is it always the last place you look?” Her reply: One of those brain fart moments that she will remember at at the most inconvenient times forever.
  22. Yeah - I agree. Ted Lasso is one of my all time favourite shows. We binged Morning Show last week. Having watched the trailer, I didn’t think it was for me - but it ended up being very powerful and incredibly well done. This is the first I’ve heard of Masters of the Air - I loved BoB - so I will definitely check this out. We got Apple TV+ as part of the Apple One subscription. We ended up saving money over using Spotify + other services & I’ve been really pleasantly surprised by Apple TV. I’m catching up on some DCAU at the moment. But then I’m going to try out SEE.
