  1. You know one of your favorite sources of information is a card collector who got into comics because of DC's 3D cover marketing gimmick, right? There is a difference between noticing an existing market trend and creating a market trend by selling the internet on a book through blog posts that may or may not use accurate information as a reason to "invest" in a book. Got any examples of this from CBSI? And whoever mentioned the date of joining here as an indicator of someone who is trying to inflate the market, pump and dump or whatever i take personal offense to that. Maybe people join when they discover the forum and it just happens to coincide within a particular time frame. The Boys seems to be hot today but I have to say that that series let me down. Terrible finale. For me a story's end is pretty important and showrunners are going to have to rewrite that mess. If they do that then it's ain't really true to the comic and thus becomes something the writer didn't intend. To that I say sell em and quick.
  2. Since people here are so into smoking why not some banana peels?
  3. Credit to CBSI on that one Why is anyone deserving of credit other than the creators? Sorry I'll fix it... Credit to CBSI for recognizing that this book might see increased interest on the back issue market based on the contents. This is a forum about comics that get hot and sell at auction no? I'm sure the creators got plenty of Kudos from fans and coworkers when the book came out.
  4. They must be close to finishing it by now... http://www.joblo.com/horror-movies/news/deadworld-movie-in-the-works&order=desc#strikeback
  5. Hells no. What about the Platinum? By the way this film was one of the worst films I have ever seen and yes that includes Catwoman. Certain scenes that were pulled right from the comics were beautifully done but even those could not save it. I don't even recommend downloading it illegally unless you want to just grab the soundtrack.

  7. "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it." like saying Hulk 181 is the first appearance of Wolverine.
  8. The Punisher Max run did well enough to last 75 issues and still has a core of readers in the TPB market, IMO some of Ennis's best work That was a niche market, allthough generally well done. I actually think the Punisher would do well on a premium channel tv series. Has anyone seen Strike Back on Cinemax? its two supersoldiers shoot and eff their way around the world battling terrorists in one or two episode arcs on a weekly basis, obviously with 1 or 2 seasonal 'big bads' they have to kill before the end of the season. Or Banshee, along the same vein? I don't see any reason the punisher can't do something similarly episodic where he basically targets certain crime lords every week or two in and around the east coast, with some random headshots, nudity, and implausibly survived shootouts, while trying to reach a bigger villain or solve a larger mystery. Season 1 is easy: Find and kill the people who killed his family. Season 2 : Punisher vs the police, and punisher goes to prison, kills a super villain in prison Season 3: Punisher vs Kingpin (or a similar crime boss), one can toss in Bullseye or something. Season 4: If you get this far, you can do Dark Reign where Norman Osborn or someone similar actually has the US government hunting for him Sprinkle in some villains with very minor powers, some pretty girls, some creative traps laid for gangsters to die, and you've got a show. Not the best show ever, but a good Punisher show that caters to Punisher fans and young males in the demo, which is all you were ever going to get anyways. Season 5. Punisher goes to Space.
  9. Do you think that is the "secondary grail" behind Omega Men, now? If not, what? In a world that pays me $10-$15 for X-Force 2's, Lobo #1 has potential. ( You're also seven years younger than me?! Jebus. you look like you got beat up with a bag of donuts. I had you pegged as seven years older. Minimum ) JLI 18 is the book. Man, Kevin Maguire was king of the world at one time. Why? Ist Lobo in current incarnation? Correct - 1st Main Man Lobo It's his first appearance outside of Omega Men too but that cover is awful.

  11. I would love one but I do not have any copies 100 at all. It's the only hole in my WD collection besides the Image First TPB from 2005.
  12. Going against the current, aren't you ? Do you have stacks of #98's to flip ? Nah I wouldn't pull that kinda . The 98 2nd print is really tough to find and I personally don't like collecting a book with a ton of covers. If Dwight gets the iron to the face I see no reason why he can't become a fan favorite on the show. There's a lot of reasons to like this book beyond Dwight, some were mentioned above.
  13. WD 98 2nd prints are undervalued. I'm not sure I would want any copy of 100.
  14. Very tough. He only signed a handful of times in 2013. Wow. You know, I thought I knew every single Sam Kieth book from 1983-2000 or thereabouts. Even the really obscure ones, like Blood of Dracula #3 from Apple Comics and Target: Airboy, and Cadillacs & Dinosaurs: Man-Eater #1-3. Did everyone know, for instance, that he inked Mage: The Hero Discovered #6-15? Even books like "Secret Origins Special #1", where he just did some interior art. I stand here completely flummoxed that I did not realize that Manhunter #1 was a Sam Kieth book. And I own multiple copies! Wow. That's kinda cool! Coppers heating up, indeed! Don't forget Jonny Quest 9!
  15. A walk down Copper Age memory lane. I remember having that Hawk & Dove mini series. The artwork was actually not bad compared to the later New Mutants work. I forgot about this one. I know we've talked about this book before in other threads, but I'll state one more time that for all of the Liefeld gets, this book absolutely stood out on the racks when I was a kid, and I read it over and over again, simply because the art was new and exciting. Of course, even as a kid I realized that some of the anatomy was wonky (I think there's a DPS of the Hulk fighting Wendigo, and one of them has, like, an extra arm's worth of arm in their arm) but it was so dynamic and different, it really flipped my lid. I think Rob's early work, when tempered by a good inker, is still pretty fun stuff. Killer bullet holes. I'm not sure that gun fits into that holster though. Why would Wolverine need a gun? Because he needed pouches and I don't think he carriers bubble gum and loose change. I would think a gun would be useful for ranged combat, unless he suddenly develops the ability to fire his claws like spears... ...ok, I now want him to be able to fire his claws like spears. Sounds like a great reason for Marvel to re-boot Wolvie with a new # 1. I like this one better... Wolverine: Emergence of the Seventh Claw.

  17. Is that the first appearance or am I confused? its original art from the first book they appeared in. The Fruit of the Loom comic. With no date on the underwear packaging or comic how can we determine that it came out before april 1994? Ask CGC or overstreet - who both regard the FOTL as the first appearance. Guides have been wrong and continue to be about a lot of things no? And don't get me started on CGC. I'm just asking the question, can the mini comic be considered the first if there was no month listed on comic or underwear? I also wonder if there is a single, sealed underwear pack left on earth. I sure hope so. I have added it to my top ten most wanted list.
  18. I had enough time after work to either rub one out or read the last few pages of this thread. I made the wrong choice.
  19. It seems to me that Cable represents the start of poorly written, poorly drawn Marvel comics. That's not to say that everything prior to NM 87 was quality material but from that issue on the quality declined significantly and the money grab via foil, bagged and other gimmicks soon began. As popular as Cable was, interest in him probably suffered within a few years after that early debut spike y'all are arguing about. Sales may have been at an all time high for Marvel but that was not due to a top notch product. I think Deadpool proves that a character needs more than a snazzy costume to achieve the kind of popularity he has. Has Cable ever had that kind of sustained writing. No. Does he have a killer costume. Nope. Can anyone name a single story beyond the cool origin that really stands out? I have read every Marvel comic from that era and I would say no. Even the Cable and Deadpool stuff is mostly forgettable. I hope the film does him right though. The concept of Cable is cool and seeing as the films never follow the comics and instead often pull the best concepts from the comics, there is hope for Cable. I hope they call it Cable & Deadpool er..Deadpool and Cable. No matter what they do will any of these things make Cable as big as Deadpool. I doubt it.
  20. Which Cable #1? The 1992 mini, or the 1993 regular? By the 1992 mini, it still had legs. But by the 1993 #1, it had lost most of its steam, and began the long, slow march into discount box status. But, like many of these books, it was never really a "dollar box" book (like you've said of New Mutants #98, though NM #98 was much, much more likely to be one.) You generally had to pay $5 or so for a copy on eBay throughout the 90's/00's. Does anyone here know if there was an error printing for either issue 1 of the 1992 mini or the regular series from 1993?

  22. I think Sentai 3 is the 2nd appearance of the Rangers for those who are interested.
