  1. I think, as with any long running series, OA collectors will start to segment themselves into groups. You'll get your collectors of: - Moore art - Covers - Splashes - Focusing on a favorite issue or run - Anything WD - Favorite character and so on. Some pages will fall to the wayside(aren't their WD pages on SPLASHPAGE still?) and the fevered frenzy will be maintained for the more popular stuff. As for what's gonna be hot/popular/in demand? It think the same stuff that is now. Michonne art, the Govenor run, Moore art, Covers, Zombie pages. And I think the prices for that art is going to be maintained, at least. My reasoning is I haven't seen the really good pieces change hands publicly. The WD niche is fairly small and when a good piece is moved the seller knows who to contact to get the price s/he wants. Mike
  2. It never hurts to ask, BUT don't be the guy that offers $400 for two pages that total $1075. I politely declined his "offer" first thing this morning I was thinking more in terms 10 to 15% on a single piece or maybe 20% on the total order of 3 to 4 pieces. Not because I'm trying to low ball anyone either, but I have a budget and want to make a run at some stuff, but don't want to be the insulting guy and get blackballed by my favorite artist or a dealer who might have stuff I want down the line. I'm really not sure about the etiquette There is another thread in the OA section discussing etiquette and making offers. After much discussion it can be pretty much be summed up with "Common sense and courtesy." If you use liberal amounts of both you can't go wrong. There is no 'standard' for a proper or fair amount to ask for on a discount. Just go with your gut. If you're in the ballpark of what they will accept chances are they will counter(That's what I would do.) If you are WAY off, they may just decline (also, what I would do.) Good luck

  4. If you're unsure of the market value of the piece, try to find other pages from the same artist/series/issue, if possible, and see what they sold for. You can also sign up for the ComicArtFans Market Data service . But, my cynical side always avoids sellers unwilling to post a price. For the record, you can consider EVERY PIECE OF ART ON CAF as "considering offers"
  5. Just discovered the work of Frank Teran, but now i'm looking for more This is a page from the VERTIGO horror anthology FLINCH
  6. Will someone give me an example of the spreadhseet format you use to keep track of the scammers/nogoodnicks/name changers/shiny new thing buyers/NotKeepingTheir Worders ect. Too many d-bags for me to remember. Heck, if someone changes their avatar I think it is a n00b
  7. MEPHISTO AND THE EMPTY BOX should be on everyone's "Must Read" or "Have Read" list.
  8. Yet they're still in business after all of these years The tactic is working on someone (many someones!)
  9. Which one is more MAROON? COLLECTOR A or COLLECTOR B If you don't own it, it shouldn't be on display in your CAF --------- Sorry it wasn't just you it was a Jerry S / Not So Nice tag team. Thanks for posting my CAF site with the not so nice comments. Punctuation is free. I am really not following the first sentence that says it wasn't me but it was me I was simply asking who he was talking about since I found the cover in two different galleries. Take a deep breath, re-read the post and you'll see I wasn't insulting anyone. Nor am I "tag teaming" with anyone. I think you're looking for some abrasiveness where there is none The board name may be NotSoNice, but I've got a little more tact than to call someone a insufficiently_thoughtful_person on a message board for what they buy and/or sell.
  10. NO IDEA wtf you are talking about Please redirect me to the post that I insulted you
  11. If those three people are driving the prices up, isn't that "the market?" I can think of a couple of instances where just one person came in and ran prices up on a particular series/artist. Depending on the art in question prices may not drop back "to normal" once that person has left
  12. Was the owner of the cover mentioned in the comic? Things really have changed. And I would read more moderns if people replied to my WTB threads
  13. Which one is more MAROON? COLLECTOR A or COLLECTOR B If you don't own it, it shouldn't be on display in your CAF
  14. Personally, I love them. But posting them on these boards is probably not the best idea. Better to post your commission in a restricted gallery on CAF. There any registered CAF member can view your pic if they choose to do so. Enjoy, Mike
  15. C'mon Oakland, you know the protocol. Wait until we hear both sides. Yes, wait until we hear both sides. waiting to see them post in this thread the reasoning they have ignored the OP for a month. I'm placing my bets on "Death/serious illness of Grandmother." or "Car in the shop, couldn't get to the computer to answer emails."
  16. Terry, How do you know the auctions results? Would Russ send out a letter after the auction was over with details of the auctions? Mike
  17. LA DUBLA 2012 complete 8 page story from Tom "HAUBS" Haubrick. I'll have the individual pages in my CAF soon, but for now, ENJOY!
  18. Quality is stuff like Neal Adams Batman cover and slashes, Bernie Wrightson Swamp Thing cover/spalshes, Bolland Killing Joke pages, Frank Miller DD/ Dark Knight pages ect.. you get the idea. What did you think we meant? In my 15+ years of collecting OA I have never once had the desire to own a page from that list you provided. And is this really the advice to new collectors? Buy Bolland, Wrightson, Frank Miller and only splashes and covers? There are THOUSANDS of great artists but only a small handful are "quality"? I think art and music have a strong parallel where "popular" and "quality" are not always synonymous. I don't let anyone tell me what music I should like and I feel the same about the art I collect. I just took a browse through the latest CLink auction offerings and recognize quite a few "quality" pieces that have made the rounds from "NEW IN YOUR OA COLLECTION" to most viewed/commented on CAF and now on to CLink. The cycle of "quality" continues. I just picked up a complete issue from an artist and I couldn't be happier. His name is unimportant to anyone but me, so I won't bother to mention it. But I will mention the price for all 38 pages and cover was a mere fraction of the other stuff mentioned. Hey look, you asked and I gave you some examples, You go ahead and buy what you want, it ain't my $$$. What do I care if you throw you cash into a fire to keep you warm? If you want to listen to Britney Spears or Justin Bieber and call it "quality music" you have every right to do so! But don't come on here and ask people what is good and what's not and blast them because you didn't like his of her answer. I'm not blasting you because of the answer. I'm more amused that any one person thinks they know the definition of "quality art." Because I think the definition is as varied as the collectors on these boards. It's obvious our definitions are different since my version of quality is your equivalent of throwing cash into a fire. That is the point I was trying to make. So, we agree after all

  20. I'm still waiting for someone to define "QUALITY" for me. Because what I think it means is obviously different than what others think it means
  21. Definitely Mike DeCarlo(I recognize that boat picture and lamp from my own commission ) Brian' collecting "theme" is various characters using Ipods and the like (I believe he works for the company that makes Ipods). Mostly he has them with an Ipod, but I guess they had to delve deeper in to the product line with so may characters on one page.
  22. I've been obsessing over the artwork of Jeremy Baum for the last two months or so. His art style isn't very "realistic" nor do I completely understand the stories he writes, but I have become a huge fan anyway. If you like the "underground" artists, check out his art in my CAF . I somehow ended up buying about 70 pages and will be uploading them for some time
  23. I don't think he sells his art. So it my be one of those cases where you have to get art from one of his inkers. I got lucky and found two consecutive SWAMP THING pages in 2003, but haven't seen much, if anything since. I'd love to track down some pages from HELLBLAZER 168
  24. Yup, I'd pull them out of the drawer every few months and give them a good read. It wasn't until I was an adult that I was able to learn what happened in the next issue. I wonder if this has had any impact on the way I now collect comic art
