  1. Sometimes the 50 cent bins are just books that the store owner forgot about OR didnt realize that the book had become hot. Many I time In would take my book for $1 to the front knowing its a $10 book now wonder if they knew. Sometimes you can tell but I dont think I ever had anyone tell me they cant sell it that cheap.
  2. My Mailman who came to my office to pick up mail today told me he will not be back to deliver mail until Thursday, And yes in bad weather I have had the mailman "pretend " to deliver the mail. I was waiting for my copy of the 1st App of Groot like 2 years ago , paid alot so was tracking and was tracking and it was a bad rain day, like a monsoon. Was a Saturday but was in my office waiting. Suddenly the tracking says "Tried to deliver but office closed" , I was sitting there all day so i knew it was bull. I drove to the post office and they admitted it happens and gave me my book. What can you do.
  3. That was another reason i dropped them. I took my books from the basement and have them off the floor, put some in a fire proof safe etc. I dropped collect insure, nothing wrong with them(to me).I just couldn't see paying for premiums that,to be honest were unnecessary. I figure if I take the time to make sure my comics are off the ground, away from areas where flooding can occur(against walls with water pipes) to the best of my ability, then I should be okay.Fire? Sometimes stuff happens, but I'll take that risk, because I do my best to alleviate any hazards of that as well.I have close to 300-400K in my comic collection, and I feel good about my chances they will make it a.okay. (thumbs u Prevention is key Acts of God? Can't win em all,but I think with the precautions I have put into place,I have evened the odds a little.
  4. Was all prepared to go to the show but my kitchen sink had some issues and my father in law is coming over to have a look so need to stay here. As a side note , Zapp Comics in NJ (both locations) purchased a new collection and they are putting out the new books today (pictures on there facebook page) and I may run over to Zapp later. Went last week and got a XFactor # 24 (ist Arch Angel) but missed out on the ASM 298-299 they had cheap. Enjoy the show Bird and please let us know if you get anything .
  5. Deadpool Jr thanks , Secaucus is not too far from me, i may go to that. Looks like a good place to start. Bird, thanks for that heads up and also sorry for thread hijacking there. I just realized it and again sorry. Back to your new slabs . Cant wait for more photos.
  6. One of the things that got me interested in some OA was actually a pay it forward thing. I was auctioning off a few things on Ebay. and in the auction was a set of mcFarlane Keepsake cards. Got a fellow who emailed me and asked if the auction did not sell would I just sell him the keepsake by them selves . I cancelled the auction and told him i will send him the keepsake for free . I sent it and a few days later I got a package from him. Below was what is in it. For a second I thought it was the original cover Art for ASM 300 that was on auction at the time . (sold for 140K) but it was a copy of it straight from someone he knew at the auction house. I am still looking for a frame for this. Was an incredible gesture. (Sorry for the crapppy pic, too big for a scanner )
  7. . What kind of stuff are you interested in Spid? If your in NJ, you could go to comicartcon in March. They have a huge selection with things in everyone's price range. Where is this Comicarton at in NJ. Might be a good show to go to to see what I have an interest in. I paired down my comic collection over the year from 5,000 books to 3,000 to 1,200 and just a few months ago i was laid off for 8 months and decied it was own to my favite 2-300 books. So I now have my collection of comics done and always thought about getting some original art or a comic page but having been unemployed for 8 months and then working at a $13 an hour job at quick chek for another 4 months until I found my current management job I am on a tight budget for a while .The art seemed do expensive when I read the threads on here. But I am learning its not all expensive and you can get decent stuff for under $100 etc. My interest probably would be some Venom Spiderman type stuff.
  8. Sure. C'mon over. I have about 8 pieces of cheaper OA set aside for that thread alone. The rules are on the first page and are fairly straight-forward. Older raw comics, newer comic runs, memorabilia, slabs, OA - you can find it all in PIF. Will have a read later on all the rules and see what i got to give away . Got my son Basket ball game to go to in a bit , probably some good late night reading. Thanks.
  9. I am here everyday and been on the forums for over 10 years and never entered that thread. Been giving things away to boardies for years as some can attest., If I see someone say they are looking for something I just send it to them. Next time I will do it in that thread. Might be a good way for me to see if there is any not too expensive OA since I want to get started in comic book OA. . Thanks for the alert on that thread.
  10. Found my old policy , 15K cost me $77 a year.
  11. Love the original art. Something I wish I could afford. If I could I would have some nice pieces like that around my house. Maps and globes are my favorite. I used to have globes all over my house,. Since I cant afford real art I have some framed stuff like the constitution and Declaration of independence up on my wall. Not exactly art but cool stuff. As for the bags, if I am displaying the slab which I have 2-3 I have on my desk for display , I don't use the bag. Only put the bag on when have the slabs in the box. Again don't really think you need them but as they say, it cant hurt.
  12. Was a few years ago, dont remember but I will look at my files when I get home.
  13. Any of the slabs I have that had the plastic bags on them , I keep the bag on . not sure why since the slabs are in a box but I guess its extra protection for scratches etc.
  14. I used to have collect insure when my collection had a "book" value of $15K but when I sold most of it and the value dropped below $5-6K I dropped the insurance.
  15. I just got new tires on the Subaru last week. Check engine lights went on and $800 later new tires and a new axle. Still not sure I am going , latest is snow all day Saturday. Its a 45 minute drive for me from Central NJ. After last Sunday morning where cars were sliding into each other all morning it will depend.
  16. This should probally be a sticky. This gets asked almost monthly. Think there was a thread last week on this.
  17. The show in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ this Sunday is a good one. I have been to a few there so far and always come home with more then I wanted to spend. Was thinking of going this Sunday but just heard that we are "maybe" getting a nor'easter snow storm this Saturday night and Sunday morning (might make that slope even more slippery }so probably wait for the next one.
  18. I am still disappointed . Even more disappointed they decided to kill him off . Rich not Nova.
  19. What an incredible thread. Got this one bookmarked and checking it out daily.
  20. My mom and dad threw away all our baseball cards but did not throw away our (my brother and I) comic books . About 250 or so. How I got back into comics. Short story , I got out of comics maybe at 12 (got into kiss , Sports and Girls etc) but stayed a Spiderman fan. and at I think it was when I was 24 I found them in the basement and tried to sell them at a comic book store on SI, NY. Guy told me I had junk (I did, it was all good copies of commons from the 70's) and said he would give me $10. I declined but saw whole bunch of hologram Spiderman anniversary books and saw an issue with Spiderman but he had a black costume. I asked the guy what the heck was up. he told me of Venom etc. Well i did not walk out of there with any money but dropped $75 on books. All 4 holograms, venom back issues , black costume back issues and went crazy collecting every 70's book I could. I would get the comic book newspaper (I think it was comic buyers guide ) and call all the numbers and sellers to get back issues., I would fake not feeling well at work (I worked in Manhattan) and leave early to go to the comic book stores in midtown manhattan and the village. I was back as a comic book fan. Eventually got up to maybe 3,000 issues but over the years have gotten rid of alot as I moved , had a family etc. Now have like 300 of my favorite books.
  21. I must be one of the 3 myself . Born right after you in 67 and loved Nova from day one (Collect Nova items) and have all 25 issues including #3 and two copies of #8 for some strange reason. Welcome to the Boards.,
