  1. Welcome to the thread. Nobody, that I recall, has mentioned selling. We are having a grown (sometimes) discussion on the merits of ADs / previews / 1st appearances. Please feel free to contribute something useful to the conversation. Welcome to the thread? I've been here 3 years longer than you have. As well as in plenty of other places on this forum. And I've contributed a HECK of a lot more to this forum than just information on 'copper's heating up.' And I AM contributing something to THIS conversation. I'm calling BS on those of you who hope to pass this idea off as real information so that you can sell copies of worthless Previews for far too much money to collectors who don't know better. The ONLY reason to fan the flames of this idea is to raise the interest in these catalogs so they can be sold. It's dishonest. And I'll speak out about it as much as I like. Welcome to Coppers Heating Up thread. Rust #1 is heating up.

  3. wouldn't there have been something like previews back then? what would comic shop owners be basing their ordering on 2 or 3 months before this -- just the title of the book and mcfarlane being on it (probably enough back then)? presumably spawn appeared in some sort of solicitation in print form before then. calling these things a cameo or whatever is nuts. if you want to collect first advertising apps, that's fine, but call it what it is. and i love the other listing "significantly devalues malibu sun 13" This Spawn Cover came out 1 month before Rust 1 Here's my Spawn list: Previews issue: first appearance and cover ( March 1992 ) Rust 1a,1b: Second appearance depending on what other Adventure comics are discovered ( April 1992 ) Malibu Sun 13: Third appearance, Second Cover, first appearance in a comic book publication ( May 1992 ) Spawn 1: Third cover, first appearance in a narrative. Then there's Crusade Comics Spawn 1 which has a released date of 1992 for a convention that happened in August? I am not sure what the actual publication date is but it could predate all of the above. Either way it is definitely the first appearance of Sam & Twitch. Not sure if you saw my comment earlier, but according to Diamond, those Previews during the 90's had a regular print run of 90,000 copies. and? how many of them are still around even? Most shops let customers use them and then thrown them out as they are beat.
  4. Thanks, just bought the set, Same. Thank you. Not the best JSC Spider character I've seen, but I'm betting this is the one to go for. Definitely not his best work. That Harley is really nice though!
  5. bwahaha, dude knocked over rack twice while screaming like a sports announcer. Amazing! 10,000, errr 5,000 cards!
  6. Appearance in what movie? We can say that about any character. I feel like the name and character are a little too 'ethnic' for DC to use in a major movie. Not that there won't be or shouldn't be ethnic diversity in the movies, there definitely should be. But having an essentially African Wonder Woman named Nubia...too on the nose I think. How about a large African American named Black Goliath?

  8. Those two actors look awfully light skinned to play Miles Morales.
  9. There is a mini comic that was distributed exclusively by Wal Mart in a DVD that came out before Iron Man / Hulk / Fury.
  10. Already selling for $20 in NM. How many of us have seen a fat stack of these in $1 bins?
  11. I bought two last night just in case . Im also on board with Battle Scars #1 and Batman/Superman #8. What's the deal with Battle Scars #1 and B/S#8? I thought the whole Colson thing was dismissed and pushed onto a give-away from a Walmart special... Edit: Superman/Batman #8 1st Kara Zor-El Supergirl For one person the WalMart book is Coulson, not the masses.
  12. eh, $5-10. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=action+comics+583&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&rt=nc But there is demand for a Superman book which is hard to come by for Copper or newer. Can someone translate this post for me? Sorry, here you go: Translation for divad
  13. 1st Infinity Gauntlet makes sense with the tie into the movies. Although I don't remember the Cosmic Cube getting a bump like this. I think by the third run of Thanos arcs the value drops out a little, nothing in relation to print run. He is also more saturated around that time, also appearing in Warlock & the Infinity Watch.
  14. Did I miss some news about Spidey joining the Avengers? I thought that Marvel was going to use the character in their movies and help produce the next Spidey film? Wishfully connecting the dots. Ahhh...... I wouldnt put it past Sony to break away from Marvel once they kick start the franchise again. If you really want to get crazy start following the dots to Secret Invasion........... For Marvel? I don't think that's crazy at all for the first Inhumans movie.

  17. No, I have not read them. In fact there are lots of books I havent read. I even own a lot I haven't read. I'm strictly going by information that I have found and I think I have presented a good case. Of course the context of the story is very important. Basically, as important one could consider the two Sub-Mariner issues (I personally don’t even have them and I am a huge fan… ) the Defenders is a "non-team" summoned by Strange almost "by chance" in unusual situations of danger. This happened first in the story arc I mentioned, and from which Thomas got the idea. If one reads the story, it will be easy to see it is a very relevant and important story for what the Defenders would have been later on, a lot more than the chance alliance happening in Subby #34-35 between them alone (without Dr. Strange), but of course one might want to have them all, and understandably. What I was surprised about, is how much #34 and #35 were sought after, as the original story arc of Hulk #126, Subby #21 and Dr. Strange #183 is truly "quintessentially Defenders" even if it is just the ideal context from which the idea would have stemmed. Much like when Thomas inspired by Warlock turns him into a full-developed character, and christens him (previously just "Him", almost unnamed). Very informative, thank you for the history! I also ran across what is probably a better description of Sub 34: Leads into Defenders #1
  18. 41k for Squirrel girl. Really? Low or high? Seems low for the supposed hype.
  19. At cons or something? The only one I'm seeing approach that is #2B and maybe a #3B.
  20. Calling Sub-Mariner #34 1st Pre Defenders is basically a lie. Just curious why you feel that way? It has been thought of that way for at least the last 30 years. It is listed in Overstreet that way under Sub-Mariner 34 & also noted as a pre-appearance under Marvel Feature #1. I understand everyone has their own opinion, but this one seems pretty obvious. It also says it on the CGC label. Can't pin this on the seller, though if you want to call CGC liars, that's fine. sub-Mariner 34 features Subby, Hulk and Surfer. The Original Defenders are Subby, Hulk and Strange and Hulk leaves in the first issue according to the wikia. So two members appearing in the same book constitute the "team"? As an example, did Iron Man, Hulk and / or Thor ever meet before Avengers 1? I'm assuming that you have arrived at your conclusion without ever having read Marvel Feature #1? In Marvel Feature #1 (The 1st Defenders) Strange seeks out Namor for help. Namor agrees to help & suggests they locate The Hulk & Silver Surfer because the had fought as allies in a previous battle. They were able to locate the Hulk but the Silver Surfer was unconscious after trying to break the hidden barrier that trapped him on earth. So they went into battle without the Silver Surfer. Yes, the Hulk left after the first battle, as did Strange & Namor. They all 3 got back together in the next issue (which I am assuming you didn't read either). No, I have not read them. In fact there are lots of books I havent read. I even own a lot I haven't read. I'm strictly going by information that I have found and I think I have presented a good case. Of course the context of the story is very important.
