Did anyone take note of Daredevil 7 9.0 in the Heritage auction yesterday???  It went for $8400!!!! :whatthe:

The last one sold for $2250 11 months ago.

An 8.5 went for $1650 a week ago.  Whoever bought that 8.5 must feel pretty good right now.

Thanks I wanted a Green Goblin cover so this one fit the bill. I did bid healthy on all of them that did not have brittle pages, but others must have really wanted them as well.

If that was a comic connect auction it would have been the signature pieces with a lot more publicity,  Outside of the AF 15 and the ASM 14 I thought the Ditko pieces pieces were next in line--also one of a kind

When did this thread get taken over by 12 year old girls arguing over whose favorite teen idol is more popular?

Unless you get a cut of the licensing deals, who gives a :censored:?

David Cassidy greatest teen idol of all time.  Justin Bieber #2.  Davy Jones #3. Scott Baio #4

For me yes, but monetary wise, I think Supes 1 will outsell Bats 1 in any grade. Just harder to find than Bat 1 and first title given solely to a Superhero in a comic book. But I do love me some Joker in Bats 1 (:

As census numbers pick up for Supes 1 (and they have over the last 5 years by quite a bit) I see the 2 getting closer and closer to each each other. Will be interesting to see where the 1.0 at Goldin ends up.  Wasn't;t doing to well last I checked but there was a lot of time left (eye appeal wasn't the best )

Only time will tell. We need an unrestored that presents well to come to auction.   30 unrestored copies and 63 total… So rare. Also its book that is usually held for a long time. So we havent seen many come to market.

I think it of it as always as a  3rd  place after AC1 and TEC27

With Submariner and maybe Torch the golden age being introduced to the MCU… And maybe a nod with someone reading an MC1 with Chris Evans seeing the exploits of these two

I've got Marvel 1 at #3 as well.  Anyone move Bats 1 ahead of Supes 1 to the #4 spot ?

Conceptually, it isn’t much different than time shares, except with time shares, you at least get to use the place several weeks a year. Now some people apparently like them, but for others, they become albatrosses because of their annual costs, and the built in limits on their use. They literally will sometimes pay people to take them.

Part of the fun of ownership is possession. Without it, this concept cannot go far; but if it does eventually get off the ground, watch the bubble burst when its limits sink in. I doubt people will pay to unload fractionals, but if it somehow develops steam, it could eventually lead to a market crash.

Nail on head.  Part of fun of ownership is possession. Goldin Auctions is really pushing this fractional thing. I'm not sure how that comes into play

I think it's pretty simple ... I'm not the world's biggest Superman or Batman fan, but I recognize both of them as truly iconic, among the very greatest heroes ever created.  However, even though one is light and one is dark, they have something in common -- they're the kind of heroes you have to appreciate from a distance.  As a reader or a fan, you stand in awe of them but you never imagine for a moment that you could be them.  And by the way, some of my absolute favorite Marvel characters are the same way.  I have always been crazy about Thor and Captain America, but they're in that same category -- you can hero-worship these characters and revel in their superhuman feats, but you can't really put yourself in their shoes.  That's why Batman, Cap, and many other heroes of the Golden Age needed boy sidekicks to tag along with them.

That's what truly sets Spider-Man apart.  Whether you're a small child or a grown adult, you can identify with Peter Parker (and now Miles Morales) in a way that you couldn't with any hero that came before.  Classic Spidey sits right on the threshold between boyhood and manhood, he struggles with the difficult moral and practical questions of being a hero in ways that his predecessors never did, and we get to see the world from his point of view, to a previously unmatched degree in superhero comics, as he grows and evolves as a character.

Spider-Man has always been the hero you could actually imagine yourself being, and that's why he's so special.

I'd like to add that the costume covers every piece of skin from head to toe.  It could be anyone (you) in there swinging around NYC

my brother in law, who is japanese and lives there, said spiderman is the most popular and well known character there. more than superman or batman, for what it's worth.

He's been the most popular there since the late 1970's.  Spidey is king world wide I would guess.  While I was in Israel I saw more of Spidey than anything else.

I was talking recently to the recently-appointed head of Christie's Asian and World Art section and how I was surprised at her appointment because she's an investment banker (although she did get her BA in Art).

She explained to me that actually a lot of the management at the big auction houses these days are bankers, and the reason is that the business now is all about lending and financial risk management, which at the end of the day is what all these guarantees and advances boil down to. This is what the auction houses compete on now.

If we measure based on current comics, Batman blows amazing Spider-Man away in sales numbers. That’s certainly an indicator I would think that Batman is still #1

appears more Batman tshirts sell versus Spider-Man too.

Is that because there are more Batman titles ? (which I guess is another way to measure popularity anyway ?)
