It is documented that on the Russian front, when a situation arose like that pictured in GI Combat #76, and the tank commander knew of the foxhole he would quickly ride on top of the foxhole, apply the brake to one of the tracks and do 360 degree spin circles, giving the soldier no chance to apply his bomb and grinding the hole and soldier into oblivion

Yes GI Combat rules !!!! even though I collect OAAW This is my favorite war cover of them all.......... brilliant, horrifying, realistic, amazing, thought provoking ,...too many more adjectives to list.........
-
Yes GI Combat has the incredible run of wash tone covers from in the 70's and all others are awesome too , The pre DC covers also have a slew of cool covers especially the first three issues GI COMBAT #1 has possible THEE most shockingly violent cover of all war comics as it appears a US solder has been shot through the head with his brains blown out - gruesome

Thanks for nice analysis and graph -
Vey nice! I was the underbidder on the Heritage #1 in 8.0 You know, I got confused over which day that one was going to come up. I thought it went low. It would definitely have sold for more if I had been on the ball. Edited to add: I think it was the same copy that sold on HA and then was available for offers on that site. If so, it sold for less than I offered through the site. Squeggs now that you have this CGC copy will you sell me your under copy ??

I'll teach you on Monday. It's easy. (thumbs u ...and I think that's a diver and not a frogman. Thanks ! I always did consider frogmen/ combat divers to be one of the same. the cover does mention a frogman story , it is odd that on the cover of OAAW #27 he is in such shallow water. I'm sure the inside story explains it and i can almost guarantee he survives the encounter and shoots the enemy with his own gun !
-
OAAW #27 A frogman in very shallow water has just been stepped on by a marching enemy soldier- yellow cover, a pretty unique cover especially for OAAW. someday i will learn how to post photo's

As a young collector going to my LCS in the 70's, silver age Flash and Sgt Rock were the only DC comics I really enjoyed reading and collecting.

on my way................ Hi I am heading to the MotorCityComicCon in Novi Michigan, near Detroit this morning, if I get there an hour before the 12:30 opening time I should be only 200 people back in the line. There are quite a few dealers with the golden age comics I look for and many big time dealers with all eras for sale, my want list is considerably smaller than a few years ago because of eBay. One of the headline guests is Jimmy JJ Walker and as I watched "Good Times" as a teenager I decide to look him up and read about the show on Wikipedia and was amazed to learn about the behind the scenes drama that went on during the shows run it is a very interesting read for anyone interested. I recently acquired my "HOLY GRAIL" pictured!!! To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

OAAW #84 is seldom offered on Ebay,..maybe every 8 months or so, and almost always a reader copy.

There is a neat story of the sailor who pocketed the watch of the dead kamikaze pilot who nearly sunk the Franklin and then years later returned the watch to the family in Japan

Do you have a Krazy Kat collection?? how much does a #1 cost? -
There are not many war comic keys in the entire genre, Sgt Fury #13 is one of the more recognizable
-
There wasn't that many war comics being printed anymore when Sgt Fury was released (except for Charltons) and I read that Sgt Fury was the 4th best seller for marvel out of their initial dozen releases I love the first 20 issues reads of Sgt Fury !!
