  1. From the FedEx announcement a year ago... "CGC has found FedEx to be the the most reliable service for return shipping."
  2. The other possibility is that the slabs are scuffed even before they are used. There is evidence of this in posts made during the Saucerman era.
  3. I'm pretty sure I read years ago on here where someone explained how easy it was to take the tatooz from one book (say FF 252) and insert them into ASM 238. Could that possibly have something to do with label discrepancy? Disclaimer - I have no idea what these tatooz even look like, so I may be talking out of my backside.
  4. I've received dozens of boxes from CL. Never had an issue with damage.
  5. 100% I never bid on an Ebay auction without using Gixen. https://www.gixen.com/main/index.php I also never bid (except tracking bids) on a CL auction that gets over past what I consider to be my bedtime ... if I'm not awake when the auction gets over, I don't bid on it. Even though I can't say for certain any shenanigans are going on, I seem to pay my max bid more often on auctions where I bid early and let it sit ... just peace of mind. I've never won a book on CC or Heritage. And as far as the $401-type bidding ... I'm pretty sure everyone and their brother does that.
  6. I'm guessing you didn't happen to catch him in time to ask him about yesterday?
  7. @NickiO CS Just curious... Do all of these stories (and there are many) of FedEx's ineptness give cause at all to CGC rethinking this 'FedEx only' rule?
  8. ...which I suspect happens quite often at the auction house that I purchase many comics from.
  9. 7/11 = 64% 4/10 = 40% 1/10 = 10% Question: Which of those percentages is unacceptable? Answer: all of them
  10. Me too ... immediately after uttering a few bad words.
  11. It is now 5:37 am. I've been up since 4:30am. I've had to login twice so far.
  12. I haven't done an ME in many years ... I'm sure things have changed. I seem to recall reading where the option on the form for this kind of thing says something like 'postal mishandling' or something like that. My question: When people return an ME for this kind of stuff, do the people who are doing the actual reslabbing and the QC people (if they exist) know why the books were returned in the first place?
  13. I submitted a couple of the old Arrow publication The Dead (gore edition). They were rejected. When I asked them why, I was told they were too explicit. When I told them that there were some in the Census, so apparently they DO grade them, I was told "um". I resubmitted them ... they were rejected again.
  14. C'mon CGC. How does this happen? Seriously. When people submit to you guys, should they think, "I should be ok. There's a big chance that I'll receive a good quality product. There is a smaller, but very real, chance that I'll get absolutely no quality check at all on my product and get back total junk."? Is that what CGC expects their customers to think when they submit?
  15. It seems like a little backtracking would be kind of simple... When did this scuffing become an issue? I imagine there were always incidents, but when did it become as common as it is today? Now, if you're CGC, think back (or check your documentation). What, if any, changes occurred about that time? - Did the storage of the slabs change? (possibly new shelving like above) - Did the manufacturer of the slabs/plastic change? (or maybe a new shipment come in ... although this seems unlikely to be the culprit. Afterall, we're talking YEARS! - And check the procedure of the slabbing itself. Surely, the procedure isn't exactly the same as it was 20 years ago. Was there any kind of procedural change made about the time this became a common occurrence? I remember when the big hoopla going around was about CGC hiring this Saucerman guy. @CGC Mike said that one of the first things this dude was going to do was put tarps on all the empty slabs. This, to me, implies that they were noticing scuffs before they were using them.
  16. Wasn't one of the previous slab designs known for this? Maybe check when those books were graded.
  17. Some people don't realize that as long as you advertise the book as a "CGC 9.8", it doesn't matter what they think is a 9.8 ... it's exactly as advertised, a "CGC 9.8".
