  1. Great points and things I had not thought of. Thank you!
  2. As strictly a comic buyer, I know that there are some things I prefer about purchasing from one auction site as opposed to others. I am curious as to other people's experience and preferences when it comes to the various auction sites What do you like/dislike about each site as a buyer or seller. Some of the things that you might consider mentioning.... 1) Do you prefer the auctions that end at a certain time and high bid gets it (like eBay or Comic Link) or do you prefer the more traditional auction where one continues to bid until all other bidders give in (like Heritage or Comic Connect)? (question for buyer or seller). 2) Customer service (buyer or seller) 3) Postage charged (buyer) 4) Payment forms accepted (buyer) 5) Time it takes to receive your items (buyer) 6) Do you prefer auctions where what you bid is what you pay OR auctions that charge a buyer or seller premium. (buyer or seller) 7) Anything else you think is relevant as either a buyer or seller I appreciate your thoughts and thank you in advance for taking the time to share any experiences (positive or negative) that you have had (although I hope this does not become just a thread complaining about eBay - as we have enough of those already).
  3. Jonah Hex had some great story lines. Probably why it survived as long as it did, even though it was a western and those had fallen out of favor.
  4. Like many here, I have "no dog in this fight", and as such I am not bias toward one party or the other. I believe that a LOT of the problem here arises from the use of PMs (emails, etc). It is often so difficult to interpret (for that is what we are doing) the intent or meaning of what someone is writing, when all we have is words on a computer screen. We do not have the person in front of us, we do not see their facial expressions, we do not hear the inflection of the words, and we do not observe the body language. WIth all these things missing from the "conversation", I believe we sometime tend to "misunderstand" what the author (of each PM or email) is actually trying to say. All I can say is what I have said for many years, "Money is a cheap commodity; easy to come by and easy to lose". I think it is a shame that a "friendship" (or at least a seemingly agreeable business relationship) between two people (board members) should be ruined over what started as a $10 transaction. Seriously???? This is sad.
  5. My wife is a fan of "The Sound of Music". I preferred Heather Menzies in her role as Jessica 6. Either way, this is a really cool item you have up for grabs.
  6. Glad you are raising your daughter to love comics (and that she has amazing taste). My daugheter likes Supergirl and Wonder Woman, but I think she will enjoy these as well. I did not show her the thread, for fear she would tell me to just buy all the LL books for her.
  7. Sorry Greg. You have great taste, but 4 of those 6 books are already gone. 15, 50, 77, & 78 were already taken.
  8. Leave it to Bedrock to start a thread about comic bags and have it turn into a thread about the infamous DD. Talk about a serious derailment. As for the store in question...In 1989, after seeing the awesome looking ads in the OSPG, I called and asked him about one of the books in the photo. He told me it was still available and thus I made the trip (drive) across a few states (with my then girlfriend - who soon after became my wife), to visit his store. As has already been stated, the store was tiny, however, it had an unbelievable stash of comics. The wall behind the cash register looked like a collection of the OSPG's 100 Most Valuable Golden Age Books (including the book I was looking for). I will refrain from commenting on the owner and his "demeanor" (my mother often told me something about what to do if you didn't have anything nicd to say). While there, I was offered a beautiful looking copy of Action Comics #1 for a mere $23K (which at that time might as well have been $1,000.000). I took a quick pass on the Action 1 (after drooling significatly I am sure). In the end, I purchased the one book I had come there for and I paid the full asking price (which I still own). Of course, as one person said (eralier in the thread), it may have been better for those who actually went to the store, than for those who ordered via the mail. IDK. Just my 2 cents and experience from days long ago....
  9. Do you have any photos of this?
  10. I was so happy and so thankful to be able to buy one of those last few copies. I think there was 3 left at the time and I wish I had bought them all. I do not intend to ever sell that book!
  11. This is perhaps the coolest picture EVER posted on the boards!!!!! Great guy with two awesome books!
  12. Do you have any references??? Good to see you, Rick. Hope you are doing well, my friend. Great books!
  13. Yes, I remember that. As I recall he said something about living in a big house and misplacing the book.
  14. I am a little confused and request clarification.... When looking at the OP's post (and link to original thread), it shows the book was listed at 7:00 and the OP posted the "Take" at 7:01. Now we are hearing from both sides that the agreed upon price was $1,700. The seller stated the original list price was $1,850. So my question is, did the "buyer" take the book at $1,850 and then negotiate a deal for $1,700?? Did the buyer send a PM first offering $1,700, which was accepted by the "seller", and THEN post the "take"? (in which case more experienced board members usually post "Take per PM" or some such language. I am just a little confused on this point and would appreciate clarification from with the buyer @J2dac or seller @Professor Chaos Thank you!
  15. Darn it!!! Two days and didn't get to the ONE book I was waiting on...... Thanks for the heads up about the weekend Great thread as always. Congrats to all the fast guns that picked up great books so far.
