  1. As I sit here watching the election results come in, I decided to see if Mile High had become any more "reasonable" in their pricing (since I have a long night ahead and wanted something to fill the time). I looked on the Mile High site first and decided to look at their 10 oldest Action Comics for sale. Then I looked at @mycomicshop to compare prices. Here are the results. #91 - MH price for a Good $519 MCS - Currently does not have a copy for sale #193 - MH price for a Fair $204 MCS - Currently does not have a copy for sale #218 - MH price for a Fair $174 MCS - CGC graded 7.0 for $280 #219 - MH price for a Fair $174 MCS - 2 Copies for sale - a Good Minus for $49 and a GD/VG for $58 *Even if MH offers one of their 60% off sales (which I have not seen in awhile), their copy would still be a Fair at $69.60. #228 - MH price for a Good $288 MCS - 4 copies for sale ranging from a Good Minus for $33.50 to a GD/VG for $58.00 *Even at 60% off the MH price for a Good would be $115.20 #232 - MH price for a Fair $174 MCS - Price for a FR/GD is $43.50 *This means the MCS price is only 25% of the MH price #237 - MH price for a Fair $144 MCS - 5 copies for sale ranging from Fair/Good $29.50 to VG at $124 #246 - MH price for a Good $240 MCS - 3 copies for sale. A Good for $34.50, a VG- for $55, and a CGC 7.0 for $205 *Not sure about you, but I would take a CGC 7.0 for $205 long before taking a raw Good for $240 #249 - MH price for a Good $240 MCS - 2 copies for sale. A Fair/Good for $24.50 and a CGC 6.0 for $150 OBO. #250 - MH price for a Good $240 MCS - 8 copies for sale ranging from a Poor $8.60 to a VG- for $55. COULD SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHO IS PAYING THESE MH PRICES???? I have never sold a comic on these boards, but if you are paying MH prices, I could make an exception.
  2. I will throw out an opening bid of $100 for my favorite Superman cover. Superman 36.
  3. FTFY Seriously! How hard is it for a guy to just keep his word and do what he said he would do?
  4. I feel compelled to respond to this thread, while at the same time I feel saddened that these things even need to be discussed (especially here on the boards). It is NOT that I do not believe they are worthy of discussion, but rather that I wish these incidents did not occur here, and hence there would be no need for threads like this. At last, however, we must live in the world the way it is and not the way we would like for it to be. I would like for @RICK STARR to come and give his side of the events, for without that we are forced to view only one side of this incident; that is the side of @thewritestuff , who, at this time, I have no reason to doubt. If the events that occurred are as the OP posted then I do understand where the true debate is. If, as the OP stated, the seller decided NOT to sell a book after the fact (simply because he decided he did not want to sell), then that is unacceptable behaviour. To those who argue that the seller is a long standing and reputable dealer, I say, "then he should know better and honor his word". If the seller was a new member to this board, I feel many of those siding with the "seller" would be silent. I say that the rules must apply equally to all or there is no justice. Do we have one set of rules for long standing members and one set for newer members? I certainly would hope not, as I would not want to be a part of such a community as that. Can anyone force the seller to honor his commitment? I don't think so. That is why we have a PL thread; a sort of self regulating justice system that helps hinder bad behavior. At this point, if the facts are as the OP stated, then I believe the right course of action, is for the seller to 1) Apologize to the OP and 2) Make good on the deal (accept payment and send book as promised). This is a comic book; is it really worth a person's reputation? I guess I am old fashion, as my word is my bond and I am not willing to break it for a comic book or for anything else. Calling... @RICK STARR
  5. You are welcome. I think CFO is a bad term (though widely used). It sounds as if the centerfold is simply detached (out), however, the industry has accepted it to mean “missing”.
  6. I am not an English or math major, however, in my opinion (for what it is worth - which is likely not a whole lot).,... “I think I’m going to pull it...” does not equal ”I am going to pull it.” Situations like this always sadden me. Money is a cheap commodity (easily earned and easily lost), but a man’s word and thus his reputation are priceless.
  7. @agamoto @miraclemet Would either of you be willing to share a screen shot of the actual PMs involved so that board members can make a more informed "decision" in this dispute?
  8. Wonderful thread and really awesome of @SOTIcollector to do this for the community. Well done and great choices for winners. Congrats to @Cushing Fan and @KirbyJack
  9. I purchased a book from one of @whomerjay ‘s weekly auctions. The transaction could not have gone better. The book was well packaged, as described, and shipped quickly (at cost). In addition the communication was great. This is the kind of board member that makes this place awesome 😎.
  10. Does anyone know if this site / ap still exists and / or is working??
  11. Just seeing this thread now. Makes me sad. You are missed, Bomber.
  12. I like a LOT of great ideas already posted here. Perhaps, someone needs to start work on a Volume 2 and include a number of these fine suggestions. I would add one more chapter (to those already mentioned): Good Girl Art.
  13. Thanks Jon. I wasn't sure if I had won that book or if you had sneaked in before the close. It was fun. Congrats on your first double cover; those are so cool. I considered bidding on it, but decided to stick to just one book. Looking forward to next week's auction.
  14. I know and happen to like BOTH these board members, so my thoughts are not intended to insult either of these two fine individuals. I have placed in BOLD a few things to address.... 1) I do not believe Sharon had (or has) any buyer's remorse over buying this book. She loves Sensations and this book will likely be one of the top pieces in her collection. 2) Beautiful Church 9.4 - Richard is 100% correct that this book is ONE ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL BOOK. Even with the scratch on the case, the book is stunning. 3) The Plastic is scratched, but the book inside is not damaged - I guess my best analogy would be that if I purchased a beautiful Ferrari, but when it came it had a large scratch on it, I would likely be unhappy. It would not be that there was anything wrong with the interior or the awesome engine; the vehicle would drive just as fast and handle just as well (regardless of the scratch), however, it just would not look "as nice". Perhaps I could take the car and have the scratch buffed out, however, I might also damage the paint more (not being skilled at buffing). I could pay to have the scratch buffed out, but why should I have to? If I purchased the Ferrari knowing it had a large scratch, then that is on me. If I purchased it and when it arrived it simply had a large scratch on it (that was not disclosed), then that is a different story. I am guessing this would cause anyone to be less than happy. I hope these two board members can "agree to disagree" and move forward as friends. They both have a lot to offer the boards and the hobby and I would hate for this incident to cause any lasting animosity between them.
  15. I know this thread is a bit old, however, I would like to ask the experts a question. What "exactly" does the term CFO mean? I know it means "Centerfold Out", but does that mean it is "Out" as in "detached" or "Out" as in "MIA - Missing in Action"? I believe the term refers to a completely missing centerfold, however, I would like to confirm that I am not mistaken in this belief. Thank you.
  16. I agree with @MrBedrock, that it would be a shame to have to send it back. You should probably just mail it to me and I will try not to let the scuff bother me too much. That is one great looking book, Sharon. Congrats.
  17. It seems to me that it would be a good practice for auciton houses to point out damage to the slabs. That is NOT a minor scratch, but a significant scuff that is, at best, extremely difficult to detect in the action photo. Sorry this happened to you, Sharon. As impatient as I am, it would bother me to have to send it in for a new slab and be without my book for that long.
  18. I did not put it in bold. I cut and pasted it exactly from the OP's posting. Did not intend to offend you. My apologies.
