Classic Skull cover! This and Punch #12 are my favorites of this genre. I might actually like this one slightly more than the Punch. I really need to upgrade this one.

Probably my favorite issue of this title. Just sooooo brutal! #24 is probably most every one's favorite and I like it too just don't have one yet.

Some great "girl in trouble" covers.

One of the all time classics. I have all of them but this is the big one. None of the covers are super standouts. This is a great read.

Continental comics - probably one of the oldest stores that still exists in L.A. that still primarily does back issues

Ever go to Geoffrey's in Gardena? Had everything from GA on up. Kinds crazy prices but I always seemed to find a few "mistakes". He passed away about a year ago. I ought to check to see if they are still open. Way back in the day Nick Scotto had a store. Crazy guy and prices but I would go on Saturday when he wasn't there and got some nice stuff real reasonable from an employee. John Verzyl had a shop in Alhambra called Comic Heaven. Lot of pricey old stuff.

Wow, you worked for Nick? You probably were the guy I bought from on Saturdays when he wasn't there. His prices were off the hook! Geoffrey passed away about a year ago. I know his kids worked there. I haven't been there for a couple years but maybe will check to see if his shop is still open. He did have some reasonably priced stuff once in a while.

Sorry, I guess you can blame Me, Bill and Tricolor Brian. It's a great collection.

How about a Baker Canadian Western?

At least Baker westerns are still affordable.

 

For some reason, my cheapo scanner sometimes produces an ugly moire pattern (I think that's what it's called) on the scan and I need to bring out the camera. Very irritating.

 

Very nice one! I still need a copy. Probably better hurry before those get out of hand as well...

Even nicer! One of the few precode horror books on my want list. This one is so nice it almost looks like a reprint!

I'm sure you have seen both of these a million times but my two favorite covers from this title. I remember the day I got #20. I pulled it out of a box for $2.00 about 35 years ago! It was at the Casual Con in Buena Park. This was the con that Chuck debuted the Church collection. He has written about it. He walked in and was swarmed. Everyone in the place was at his booth. Most people were hitting the superhero boxes but I went for the more odd stuff like horror, crime, sci-fi and SOTI books. I bought about 30 books and should have bought more... (but I did get this wild crime book before Chuck showed up).

How about a couple of Hillman pubs? The Clue is especially gruesome. Terry O'neil put it aside for me knowing if I didn't have it, I'd want it. He was right on both accounts.

OK, how about some Crime books today? I think crime books get a bad rap behind horror. Some of these cross over to horror pretty well. Here are a few of my favorite Fawcett crime covers:

I LOVE this one. One of only about a dozen graded/slabbed books. I got a vg reader and liked it so much I sought out a high grade one. The colors, the babe and the DC Sandman guy coming through the window are just killer!

Glad you got those Bill. That Comic Cavalcade is a tough one for that title. I have two that he filled out a coupon in. Nice to know where they came from. I guess when he moved to the west coast he brought them with him. But what I heard, he was a very strange "horder" type of guy. Joe showed me some books he had where Paul wrote when and where he got them, and how much he paid. A couple said that he "purloined" (stole) them. There were a ton of pulps, other magazines and loads of books and sci-fi fanzines. The collection ran up untill about 8 years ago. Like the Church collection, the family "wanted them gone". I think Jim has a nice Wacky Duck #4 (infinity cover) that has his full name on the cover.

I can only dream of what it was like to buy Timely's off the newstand Marty! Just think, a whole stack to pick through at once. Were you a "condition" guy then or did you just grab the one in front?

Thought I'd bump this thread. Got a few Okajima Camp Books for you guys today. I've got a couple more I think but they aren't camp books so a little less interest to you guys. Steve Ritter told me that the Capt. Marvel Advs #28 was the earliest Okajima he had seen. It has no other markings other than the signature. Might even be in his book if it ever comes out...

When filing away the Manhunts I got last week, #4 made me think. I really like "Surealistic" covers and pick them up when I see them. Here are a few that I could remember off the top of my head. I know I have more but they just don't come to mind. Feel free to post any not shown. I'd love to find more if I knew about them.

Sorry Mitch, no sci-fi digests that I know of. I have a friend that collects them so when I turn up any in the "wild" I flip them to him.
