  1. Sounds creepy like this. I will have to see if I can find a copy. Thanks for the tip. There's a cool Tim Powers' novel called Anubis Gates where a terrible clown named Horribin keeps a beggar army that he disfigures for more money in 1800s London. Not to lay down a spoiler on you if you haven't heard of the book, but it turns out Horribin was the child of a beggar king and he was disfigured by his own father! Pretty creepy. But there was a wild sequence where poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge is overdosed with Laudanum and he wakes up early and finds himself down in Horribin's dungeon interacting with all of his "mistakes". Love that novel!
  2. Hi Howard Not a whole lot. There were more people than usual with old comics. Jim brought some as did another guy with some nice (but pricey) GA and SA. The finder of the"Paul" collection was there and a got a few more "Paul" books. 3 early Capt Marvels, 2 Tracys, and a Sensation. He was the guy I got the 3 Shadow books from. He had only 1 pulp left a beautiful copy of the Weird Tales with the bat girl cover. He had an "I don't want to sell it" price on it. But, he was heavily discounting the comics. I got an old Wonder Woman and Kid Colt Outlaw with a Kirby monster story. I got a beat Whiz #29 and Tom Mix Ralston #6 from Vinnie for a song. That is all I got except for an unusual old Popeye pinback. Had fun and made some dough. See you next time!

  4. Nice books Howard. Although my first choice would be the Cap, I love that Flash Halloween cover a lot. I guess I will add it to my want list...
  5. My favorite pulp magazine. This is one twisted issue. The guy with the branding iron picks up homeless people off the streets and "disables" them. (not the people in the background). He then makes them go out on the streets and pan handles for him. Very disturbing story. One of the few pulps I have actually read as I collect them mainly for the covers. I have also read some Spiders that are pretty wild. I would love to find a nice copy of this but have no luck in many years of searching...

  7. My first old toy purchase. Bought at the Rose Bowl flea market when I was 12. My mom was with me but made me spend my own money. I have never seen annother one with Flash Gordon markings. I have seen this a few times but without the Flash Gordon markings.
  8. "The Drawer Liner" Many years ago a friend of mine went back to the east coast to visit his dad. His dad was a "picker" long before the TV show. In those pre-ebay days a picker was a middle man. He picked items from the original source and sold wholesale them to antique dealers. While visiting his dad he was given this book with the instructions to "give it to your friend who love funny books" When my friend gave it to me I was shocked.I had never owned a single digit Batman. I said I couldn't just take it because it was worth a lot of money. He called his dad and handed me the phone. His dad said. "I was cleaning out an old house and this was in a drawer in an old dresser". He called it a "drawer liner" with some distain. He said he was going to throw it away but thought of me. He said he didn't care if it had any value and if I wanted it, it was mine. I told him how much I appreciated it and would give it a good home. It has been in my box for years and I will always treasure it!
  9. Paul Reinman was pretty tame when working for DC but he made some gruesome splash pages for MLJ. Thanks for posting this BB. Many people just care only about the covers and tend to not pay much attention to the inside. Reinman did some cool material for the Hangman and Black Hood for MLJ.
  10. Since I showed you the Superman club pins the other day, I thought you might want to see the rest of my Superman pins. First up are 3 Austrailian pins from the '40/'50's. All the Austrailian Supe pins I know of: Next are 3 Superman badges from the '40's. The round one in the center is a Canada club pin and pretty un-common. The other 2 die cut ones are US gum badges. Some where, I have the papers for them. One of my favorites is the Superman in the Pin. It is a newspaper pin from Northern CA I believe. It was given out in 1940 to promote the newspaper strip. It is pretty large at 1-1/2" and real tough to find. Not real rare but another of my favorites is the Superman Muscle Club button. It came in the Muscle Kit in early 1950's. Wayne Boring art. I love the colors. Last are the 2 1939 and 1940 Superman Action comics pins, the 2 Superman Tim shoe store pins from the '40's and a Superman Pep Cereal pin. There are only 3 or 4 other Golden age Superman pins I know of but they are so rare, I doubt I'll ever have them...
  11. A cool score at the toy show yesterday. This is all 3 Shadow books from 1931. Not particularly rare but I've never had 'em and got all 3 at one time so I jumped them.

  13. Hi Hoarder. I didn't mean to crash your thread. I didn't know you were done. Looks like you saved the best for last! Spectacular run. Those make mine look like junk. Congrats on a beautiful run. Now go for some more. I love this title!
  14. That sci-fi stuff is OK but I have a little more down to earth persuits:
  15. I was asked about these. The Supermen of Great Britian is one of only two I know of. This is an example of each variation of the club pins. The smaller one was a wartime issue for only a few months and is also quite scarce.
  16. I keep getting requests for Felix stuff. Here is one of my favorites:
  17. Motorcycle toys are a big favorite of mine. This is a pre-war German wind-up toy
  18. I too love Green Hornet. I've got most from about #10-25. Schomburgs are my favorites except this one is better. A few cool premiums thrown in just for good measure...
  19. Hi Gang! Just got back from day one of selling at the Glendale toy show. Tomorrow should be a butt kicker I hope. Only got a few to share today: Probably my favorite Green Hornet comic and while I am at it some premiums.
  20. Hi Howard. Cool books especially the Cap. I didn't know you collected GA. Keep 'em coming. You need to get a "Paul" book for your "name" collection. Are you going to be at the Toy Show tomorrow? Or Terry's the week after?
  21. Yeah, #10 is another big favorite of mine. I even like it better than Myster Mystery #12.
  22. Great run fifties. This is one of my favorite PCH titles. Hey #1 and 2 have Woody covers. I couldn't pick so I just got'em all! My favorite is #13. Totally creepy! #19 gets all the love though. Guess I don't have to post my stuff... LOVE your run, fifties! Congrats on it! I'm about 5 of these issues away from having the same. When I complete it one day, I'll post a group shot as well!
