Does anyone else enjoy a little disorder now and then?

Collecting, whether it's comics, coins, cards - whatever, usually entails organizing: in runs, by publisher, by genre, etc. While I appreciate all my Blackhawks sorted by issue number as much as the next boardie, I strangely appreciate it when other books are grouped solely by approximate era. I don't know... I somehow find the randomness refreshing, like this handful that lives together:

Nice little group! The only time those would be together for me is if I bought them all together at one time. They would be soon split up forever into, let's see, 4 boxes. I just can't help myself...

If I have time I'm going to Carnegie Deli.  Here are my onion rings and corned beef on rye from a past visit.

And I love NYC's food trucks.  I'll be hitting them for breakfast.  Grab a sausage, egg and cheese on a bun and a Diet Coke for a five (with change back) on the way to the con.

I can leave the onion rings but that corned beef samich looks killer!

  4. OK, It's Oct 1st. Time for my yearly parade of Halloween covers. Since I showed most of them at least once, I thought I'd try something different. Taking a cue from G.A.tor, I thought instead I'd feature a complete run of one of my favorite pch titles one a day. This was the first one I completed many years ago (other than ECs). It's a great run of horror books and shows an interesting blend from bland to off the hook back to bland with the last issue being post code and pretty much killing it off. Since I got them a million years ago, I really didn't need to up grade more than a few.  Some of these, you just don't see very often.

Since it will be done a few days before the big day, I will feature some new Halloween covers I picked up this year that I haven't posted yet.

Sit back and enjoy the run of Mysterious Adventures!

GGA, Redskins and BBQ ... Jim we have too much in common!  This weekend I'm smoking a pork shoulder on my Big Green Egg.  Nothing better than sipping a bourbon with the sweet smoke coming off the smoker.

Bourbon and GGA comics. We must be brothers from another mother! Although, I don't watch football. It's LA Dodger baseball all the way for me!

The guy on the far left looks like it could be Alan Light (shrug)

I saw Terry Stroud at the flea market today. He told me the guy on the far left is Carl Macek. He was always pretty quiet. I forgot to ask about the blonde guy in the middle. He said the girl was a fan boy fantasy. I do remember hooking up with a few girls at their parties. These guys were the "rock stars" in the LA comic book scene. And damn if they didn't get in a ton of GA and SA collections in those days!

Not Mitch. The guy on the right is David T Alexander. The guy second from the left is Terry Stroud. I believe the tall guy is Bill Stout. Can't remember the rest. Killer store! They got so many collections coming in that they were just stacked in un-sorted piles in the back room. I bought a lot of ECs and pre-code horror from them. Some wild parties too..
