Over the next few weeks I will be offering about 15 books/lots for sale. Please read the terms of sale closely…
Payment: Paypal Goods and Services. Due within 24 hours of posted "take it" in thread, or within 24 hours upon agreement via personal message (PM). Cash or cashier's check is ok if you are local to the DC metro area.
First “take it” to be posted in the thread is the winner. Keep in mind that should we come to terms via PM, but someone posts a “take it” BEFORE your “take it via PM” is posted then the first “take it” claims the book.
Returns: Upon receipt of books you have three calendar days to notify me of your intent to return the book(s). Return shipping, tracking, and insurance is required on returns and is to be paid for by the purchaser.
Shipping: Shipping included in price. I will do my best to get the book(s) in the mail within two days after cleared payment. Books will be boxed with packing materials, tracked, and insured. Will only ship to continental U.S. Apologies to our friends overseas.
Always happy to supply additional pictures or answer any questions at your request, just ask. On another note, I'm not tied to the computer so if it takes me half (or a full) day to get back to you I apologize. That said, I'm usually pretty quick on the responses.

I like it, especially if you're going to display it out and about in the house, gives visitors some context to the discussion piece.
Yes, just trying to find a good spot. I’m not going to own hoards of OA, just a few choice pieces that I like, so it will all find a home on a wall. And thanks!

I would probably not opt to have the description for my personal taste as well. On the flip side, it does add nice context to someone looking at the piece and wondering where it comes from and might generate more interest for a non comic/art collector. I think it is done well and has a good eye appeal.
No problem, it was done to my taste (which will vary for many here). But, yes, it's about the addition of context and for quick reference to the details. And, Grant Morrison's writing in this issue stuck with me since first reading it, hence the inclusion of the quote at the bottom. I consider this one of my favorite Batman moments and the excerpt, albeit in brief and somewhat abstracted from the art in this example, is very meaningful to the overall context of the page. I suppose it is an effort to marry the art and writing in a way to better convey the moment.
My original idea was to have the letterer for the issue create something in its place, but he denied my request.

Used eBay coupon to secure Aquaman at a reasonable price...well, reasonable compared to what I've seen people ask for him online. The JLA is slowly building steam...next up I think might be Wonder Woman.

After being delayed two times (which I hear is par for the course) I received this small Black Panther statue yesterday. I'm not as discerning a collector as most of you here when it comes to statues, but I'm just as excited to own this as when I made the pre-order. This is my first go with Sideshow/Iron Studios and I think I will be back especially if they continue to produce these smaller pieces.

I think the future for this niche sector of the greater art world is brighter than many on this forum believe it to be. Pay attention to that last sentence..."art world". I believe that as time goes by (and I think we're seeing it come to maturity/fruition today), more interest, more acceptance, more appreciation and education about this art form will occur. I am a fine art collector first, and if I could do it over again I would have been a fine art history major. That said, I draw frequent parallels and tap into my art history knowledge as it may or may not be applicable to the comic book genre. So what if the greater public at large is ignorant about who Barry Windsor-Smith is? How many people know who George Inness is...? I could name many, many artists who very few people know about whose work commands healthy respect as well as results at auction. And don't forget that life is cyclical. When Monet tried to gift his great landscapes currently housed in the l'Orangerie in Paris, the state didn't want them. Can you imagine (using our perspective today)? They erected walls in front of the paintings for other exhibits. Unreal, but I really do feel that the Kirbys and Windsor-Smiths of this world will live on and become appreciated for the artists they are.
I also think that at this moment in time, the comic world's hegemony (for lack of a better word) over our current cultural landscape cannot be discounted too much. They just created a new category for the Oscars to, presumably, award achievement in popular culture movies. And there's the continued strong auction results that this very board cries out in disbelief after every auction...and the Lucas museum...and the growing interest among the world's top museums for this stuff. I just posted a lecture a few weeks ago talking about these very issues, and I don't think any one of you commented or ever gave it a look. These conversations are under way and ongoing and I just don't really see a compelling reason to be short on this medium, at least with regard to the really good stuff. Though, I fully appreciate the perspective from you veterans.
Hope that makes sense, I'm drafting this between meetings, so please excuse typos/errors in context, but wanted to chime in with my perspective as a fairly newcomer to OA, but certainly an art lover.

Agreed.
As a long-time Daredevil fan, I can tell you Daredevil vol. 2 # 32 is a top-5 most important book in his entire mythos.
Why?
He reveals his identity in court -- and thus to the world. And it sticks...for at least the next 60 issues. Fundamentally changes the character. And, I might add, is one of many reasons that the Bendis/Maleev run (at least # 16-80) is stronger than either of Miller's runs was in the '80s.
But...nobody was reading Daredevil in 2002-2010, so the market doesn't care.
And fanboys on this board -- most of whom are in their 40s -- weren't reading Daredevil during this period and don't even know this happened, let alone its signficance. So its a fools errand to try to convince folks that Daredevil # 16-87 (at least) is a better read than # 158-201.
Ditto, that the Netflix show (seasons 1-2) owe as much (or more) to this run than they do to Miller's two runs at the book. Only folks who have read all of the Miller and Bendis and Brubaker runs could make that judgement, but I have, and it's true.
I'm 100% on board with you. It's an incredible run of stories. This was the first OA I asked about when I started becoming interested in comic book art. #disappointed

Anyone have any thoughts on this series? It's in my queue, but haven't dug into it yet. I did see they're doing a second season.

I oscillate. I'll think it's a good idea to liquidate my books with the mindset that I can always buy them back, but (like art) key books continue their upward climb and I don't think I'd ever buy some of these back. I already sold my AF15 right as it went bananas this past year, probably won't ever own one again. But you never know. My collection's pretty streamlined already. I only collect one run (Daredevil) with the rest being keys/favorite story lines and characters. Lots of trades also.

I have three pieces I want to get framed:
- Action Comics 685 - Funeral for a Friend
- Superman/Doomsday #1
- Batman 494 - Knightfall
There is a website I use for my fine art endeavors that will allow you to post a picture and preview it with various matting/framing options. I've found it very useful as a quick dive into what an idea might look like. The website is www.pictureframes.com. Here are a couple quick mock ups I did in about 5 minutes of my art with your ideas for matting. You can play with the interface to change how the image is cropped, use different frames, etc. Hope this helps.

Is this just a difference in scanners, or did someone retouch this art? This is scary.

I find I'm prone to avoid a certain person because I find them to be a person of low character, or a "bad" person, and not necessarily if their viewpoints are contrary to mine. I wish I saw more people take that approach. It seems these days that just being affiliated with one group or another automatically makes one a "bad" person. That said, if they're espousing something really repugnant I'll of course do what I must. Context, as usual, plays a huge part in these type of decisions (for me).

Batman #681, page 16. Grant Morrison, Tony Daniel, and Sandu Florea. Conclusion to Batman R.I.P.
"But that’s the thing about Batman. Batman thinks of everything.
The superior man thinks of evil that will come and guards against it.
–The Book of ChangesObvious variations aside, there’s only one human body…206 bones, five major organs, 60,000 miles of blood vessels.
All it takes is time.
Days. Months. Years, spent memorizing the finite ways there are to hurt and break a man. Preparing for all of them.
I’ve escaped from every conceivable deathtrap.
Ten times. A dozen times.
I can slow my breathing and metabolism to control panic and conserve air.
Straitjacket’s kindergarten. Locks, too.
Benchpressing a pine coffin lid through 600 pounds of loose soil that’s filling your mouth, crushing your lungs flat and shredding your dehydrated muscles?
That’s harder.
But far from impossible."
I just paid for this piece (and it's on its way to me) but I'm so excited that I wanted to share. SUCH A COOL MOMENT. Still gives me chills 10 years after first reading it. And now this Bat-tastic moment is all mine.
