Hey now!  Looks like I need to read Conan.

Any pictures from the collective of framed pencils and inks on separate boards?  I purchased such a page and am weighing options for framing.  The leader in the clubhouse right now is to frame them both and have the published page in the middle.  Would make for a large framed piece in total, but I think would look nice.  

Saw it last night. I was shocked that walking out of the theatre crossed my mind. Absolute disbelief that I could have this reaction. All the other issues aside my main point of contention is with Luke, for most of the aforementioned reasons. 

Nothing too fancy...dipped my foot into original art this year.  Bought three pages, but the Gleason/Gray full page from Superman Rebirth is my favorite.  It's very cheesy and I love it.  The Darkseid was my first OA purchase.  I'm a big Starlin fan, so I'm happy it was my first.  The other Superman page by Grummett was chosen because it's topical to what I do professionally and adorns my office wall.  Cheers to 2018!

Thanks for the replies everyone, it is certainly appreciated.  Mick has been great, very responsive and polite, which is pretty much all I want.  The art I'm interested in is on two boards; Gleason pencils and then Gleason blue lines inked by Mick.  I'd receive both, which is good.  I've only purchased ink over pencils, so this is sort of new territory.  I love the book/story, so thinking I might go forward and I suppose frame both pieces side by side.  Anyone have any thoughts?  I know most of you prefer inks over pencils, but I'm hearing this situation is becoming more and more the norm with regard to art being produced for today's books.  Thank you again for the replies

I've been meaning to buy something from him just based on the reputation he's building/how he conducts himself.  In my brief foray into this OA world, it's easy to recognize (at least on a topical level) that professionalization like that should be reinforced.  That said, I'm usually never in a position to sit down and focus when new art drops.  The last one I recall, I was in an airport when the Thanos art dropped (a week ago?) and missed out on an amazing page with Galactus and Surfer.  I would have paid double the asking price, it was that pretty (at least on my phone, ha).  

I'm considering purchasing some art directly from Mick Gray and was wondering if anyone had done so previously would care to share their experience?  I've checked online and no flags come up on my end, but thought it a good idea to check here.  I'm happy to take responses via personal message.

I've not read any of the series, but am interested with all the hype.  I travel quite a bit for work and whenever I have down time before heading back to the airport I always try to hit up a local shop.  The last two I've visited recently (Madison, WI and Atlanta, GA), I made a point to inquire about the local reception of this title and both times I've been met with high levels of "freak out" excitement.  Admittedly, not a sample size to warrant any extrapolation but thought it interesting nonetheless.  I will say that for my part, I do think the art quite nice.

Amazing Spider-Man #300 CGC 9.6 White Pages.  Also pretty.  The only flaw I noticed is on the back bottom right corner, some tiny rubbing keeps this from being a 9.8.  Asking $700.

On another note, I'm not tied to the computer so if it takes me half (or a full) day to get back to you I apologize.  That said, I'm usually pretty quick on the responses.  

I started (and remain) a comic book collector first.  Big keys slabbed, but most others raw.  I always knew about the existence of OA, but never thought much of it until the last year or so.   Can't deny that prices achieved at auction definitely caught my attention.  I love the books because they are a full expression of the medium.  I love the color!  But OA has some really unique aspects I love too, chiefly it is art and in hand is a great reflection of a craft.  It's certainly more alive than a printed book, at least to me.   I also own trades and a few omnibuses of stories I enjoy.  In fact, I'll collect the comic books and the trades (to read) because I'm silly like that.  

I don't know how deeply I'll fall into OA collecting.  It competes with my fine art endeavors and if I have (for example) $5K-$10K to spend on art, I'm finding myself conflicted where that should be spent.  Maybe that's the OA threshold for me as it seems when I look at pages at that range is when I start to think about fine art that I'm leaving on the table.

Working in government affairs, I wanted some OA for my office that spoke to that world.  I happened to find a pretty awesome example and had it put in a frame.  This is from an arc that I haven't read where Superman is declared a naturalized citizen and thus eligible to run for the Presidency.  I did find a blog that went through the story and it sounds like a very comic bookey/convoluted story about time lines and whatnot, but the Supreme Court finds that Superman was conceived in what they call a "birthing matrix" and was "born" when this matrix was opened upon landing in Kansas.  Thus, Supes was born an American and can run for POTUS.  Pretty fantastic.

Parenthetically, if anyone's looking for modest (ie, cheaper than usual) framing options a company called pictureframes.com supplied this frame and archival materials for about $80 shipped to my home.

That Superman page is pretty much lights out.  I never read Day of Doom...any good?

I typed up, but apparently got distracted and didn't hit 'submit', this exact thing yesterday.  It's a huge time saver.  And I completely admit to hating most things IT and have not idea how complicated this may or may not be to implement.

I found something I want in Denmark! Cool beans. Love this new (expensive) toy.  Well done. 

Was gifted this for my birthday and it just arrived today.  I'm actually pretty surprised at the quality of the statue (in a good way).  Also came with a copy of the movie on blu ray.  I guess it was an Amazon exclusive (not sure what that means).  The figure is actually pretty tall, didn't measure but looks to be around 11"-ish tall more or less.

I love this show.  It's always such a blast, mainly because I don't go to other large conventions and I get so pumped.  I attended Saturday only, and brought two friends who aren't into the hobby (books or art) though they love the characters/movies.  They had never been to a convention before, and it was great seeing their expressions as we walked into the hall!  They did actually end up buying some books (Bats Year One set) and I think I got one of them interested into comic art.

Spent about 4-5 hours cruising the booths.  Was great to meet some of the folks on this board, particularly Flying Donut, Blazing Bob, and Foolkiller.  I didn't buy as much as I usually do, though.  I think that's because I'm really trying to narrow my focus and I'm fairly recently really into comic art.

That said I did pick up the following:

Fantastic Four #121, #123 (Surfer Covers)

Daredevil #46, #193, #195, #197, #199 (part of my quest to own DDs #1-#233.  I'm finally less that 100 issues away, #takeyourtime)  

Silver Surfer (Vol. 1) #13, #15 (upgrades)

I also secured a pretty neat little commission for my daughter's second birthday.  It will be a watercolor of her and her favorite character, Daniel Tiger, sitting together reading a Wonder Woman comic.  Got to start the indoctrination early, yes?

I also picked up a cool Captain America print for my office from artist Jason Pell.  I haven't spent much time in artist alley before, and actually had a blast visiting and checking out what folks are up to in this space.  Is it next year, yet?

I didn't realize it was being aired through their paid service.  That is quite lame.  I'm so tired of having to pay for subscriptions to watch shows on different platforms.

You won't get any argument from me at a $2,500 valuation.  That seems fair.  I'm just trying to put the pieces together.  

I agree with you that it's too bad the arc wasn't better received.  It's an odd quirk of comic book OA...work seemingly just as well executed (from the same artist) being valued like a third of comparable pieces based primarily on storyline.  Specifically what comes to mind is the Hush half splash that went on Heritage this summer for $9,500.  And, I've opined in recent posts that the For Tomorrow art is on par with Lee's best from this period.

I get it though, it's comics.  It's just when my mind enters "art" mode, something gets lost in translation when it comes to OA as opposed to other art I collect.  Oh well, I'll eventually get my Lee piece, just a matter of time.  I'm in no rush, the market keeps me heavily entertained.  Lots to learn too.  Cheers.
