  1. I was disappointed with the first one. It was ok I guess but the effects in the finale looked like a PlayStation game. That said, I’m rooting for this one because I love watching Tom Hardy and I love these characters. I hope this one just goes over the top and will be one of those superior sequels to the original.
  2. I love extended epic stories like The Irishman. Not ideally suited for the theater (at least for me). But perfect for home viewing. Great for a lazy day off at home when you have nothing planned.
  3. I originally thought this would be like a directors cut with some added scenes, some good some bad but none of what Whedon filmed is in the new JL. Only the stuff Snyder filmed. Then the rest of his footage was added in and you now have more than two hours of unseen footage. Do you remember the giant tidal wave scene taken out of James Camerons The Abyss? This was a huge finale that was taken out of the theatrical release. It gave the movie a spectacular ending instead of that ambiguous one we got in the theater. Well this is the second time I’ve ever seen such a big spectacle restored. You’ll know when you see it. I watched the 4 hours in two sittings in one day with a lunch break in the middle. Did not seem like 4 hours at all.
  4. I agree with you. But I’m still giving him a pass since he made Sicario. But he’s not remaking Dune the movie right? I thought he was just trying to make a better adaptation of the book. Like they are doing with The Running Man now.
  5. Some of these great reviews talking about Oscar worthy performances have me worried. Starting to feel like The Suicide Squad before release. And I liked TSS. Just not as much as the critics.
  6. Yeah thats it. A marketing trend. No truth at all to it. We don’t need the internet to tell us the Marvel formula is getting stale. There are many here like me that enjoy Marvel movies but can still be objective. You are incapable of objectivity due to blind devotion. I’m not bashing Marvel and I agree with Scorsese’s amusement park assessment. Marvel films can be like a roller coaster ride. Scorsese sure knows how to bash Marvel. That’s like saying there’s too much violence in a Halloween movie.
  7. The Last Crusade and Jedi are not direct sequels though. And in no way does The Last Crusade trump Raiders anyway. And Jedi doesn’t come close to Empire.
  8. I don’t think Fury Road is a sequel. More of a reimagining. Also, is there a single better fight scene than the finale of Raid 2? It may not be the best choreographed martial arts fight ever but its the most intense one I’ve ever seen.
  9. Have you ever reread yourself? You’re not even a fanboy. You’re a caricature of one. Go back and delete all that before your kids read it!
  10. Not worse than Origins. But reading Bosco’s post above sheds light on why Phoenix didn’t work. We could have had a much better product.
  11. You’re a bit of a drama queen aren’t you? I didn’t quote your wall of text to save others from scrolling vertigo. Let me just quote my own response to you in my post above because it sums up your wall nicely. “As long as there are fans like you, we will keep getting those same Marvel and Transformers and Fast and Furious flicks until the end of days. And if you’re happy with that, you win.” So be happy but don’t expect us all to be rank and file fanboys.
  12. On the other hand - The list is endless. Notable for me - Escape from LA. I would rather have seen one of my all time favorite movies Escape from NY go down like E.T. But thats the John Carpenter curse. As soon as the 80’s decade was over, so was he.
  13. I’m still torn on Joker. I feel like its an injustice to Scorsese since its just Todd Phillips making a movie the way he envisions Scorsese would have done it. It’s a Scorsese fan film.
  14. Both of those actors have ability and I’ll watch them but I wouldn’t care to ever have a beer with those douchebags. Sean Penn is another.
  15. No one is talking about original or “firsts” from Marvel like the first Asian-American hero or first female lead.. etc. He’s talking about the cut and paste formula obviously. When you can find multiple examples like the one I posted below from many different sources, you’re probably running your formula into the ground. And as I’ve posted elsewhere, this is not a knock on Marvel, they are printing their own money. As long as there are fans like you, we will keep getting those same Marvel and Transformers and Fast and Furious flicks until the end of days. And if you’re happy with that, you win. https://www.hypable.com/how-to-write-every-marvel-movie-ever/
  16. I’ll watch it but do we really need a sequel? That film will probably age better as a stand-alone.
  17. Chris (we’re on a first name basis) can demand whatever he wants because he’s Fonzie cool. I wish he would have just sold out and did the Nolanverse for DC but whatever. I actually find myself rewatching his smaller scale films like Insomnia, Memento and The Prestige more so than the huge spectacles that came after.
  18. The reality is this says less about Marvel than it does about us. Marvel will not (should not) change a thing as long as they keep making money. I can’t knock them if they are making the masses happy. Screw the minority. There’s a reason for these scores below.
  19. It’s been said before here but interesting to see it in print. The truth is that, decades from now, the Disney-era blockbuster will be as quaint and uninteresting as the 1930s melodrama or the 1950s western. A few high-quality exceptions will be celebrated, and the rest will congeal into a dated mass of capes, quips and cameos. The Disney-era blockbuster will become an embarrassing relic, from when business controlled culture and decided to run it into the ground. https://www.theguardian.com/film/2021/sep/15/disney-plus-blockbuster-movie
  20. Well, we have half the talent from the original movie making this one so..
