  1. The only people I block for asking questions are the jabronis who request me to total 13 different lots up, then give them some sort of 40% off deal like I'm running a Chuck code word special.
  2. One store owner in my area decided to try his own grading system. He made silly little, colored labels to denote NM, VF, etc. Essentially tried selling raw books with his own certification. That's a bad example. No one was going to pay $200 for an X-Factor 24 that he was calling a NM. His experiment didn't last long.
  3. Wall books are fine, but they have to be priced appropriately. Some stores do a good job of that, and some don't.
  4. As others have stated, one of the stores in this area will send in the mega keys just so there is no dispute in the condition and his asking price. I think in the last year since I've been back from deployment, he's sent down Fantastic Four #1, 48, 49, 50, and 52, TMNT #1, Hulk #1 and 2, All Star Comics #8, etc. They use Overstreet and ebay.
  5. Stores around here will send books to CGC or CBCS if it is a certain book (reputation for forgeries, unwitnessed signature, etc). TMNT #1, Cerebus #1, Cry for Dawn #1 are usually ones that get sent down, especially in upper-mid to high grade. Store owners aren't going to send every book down for grading because they would like to turn the books around quickly and use the money to buy other collections or invest in other areas for their stores.
  6. Most aren't particularly valubable. Some of the retailer incentives will fetch more of a premium, but the majority are dollar bin books.
  7. I don't think yall's boy is coming back with those scans or links.
  8. $10k on hookers and blow. Other $40k on some comics.
  9. Last Stand of the Wreckers was hands-down my favorite TF story that I've read. I enjoyed the War Within too. Dreamwave had some solid output before Pat Lee ran it right into the ground.
  10. I'm going to have to go back and reread the original Punisher mini. It's been so long since I read it. I loved the Zeck art on it, but it's been at least since 2000 when I read it. First Wolverine mini is a close second for me.
  11. I had a 10% ebay bucks code in the app on May 15. Maybe because I used that, this new one didn't show up.
  12. That's awesome. When I was in the active duty Navy, I made many a port call to the Philippines, Singapore, Japan, Guam, the UK, and Afghanistan. I would never trade those experiences (even Afghanistan) for any comic book. I would not have had those opportunities before the Navy or even in the few years after transitioning into the reserves. I was fortunate to get a higher paying job than my last one, so I will have more to spend on comics if I want to. Back to the main topic. Lately, I've been really bad about it, but I know when it's time to stop buying for a while. I agree with some of the other posts in this thread. Make a list of what you really would like to collect, and do your best to stick with it. I've found that deviating from the list is where I get into trouble. Don't just buy things to buy them. And definitely get rid of things that have no meaning for you, especially if it's just drek and cluttering up your space. I've been working on unloading stuff now and have about four long boxes of drek I intend to take to an LCS just to clear out space.
  13. When you have to start doing things you wouldn't be proud to tell your parents about to get whatever garbage variant or flavor of the week book is hot at the time.
  14. For what it's worth with the GSP, I've never had any problems using it other than buyers informing me of the apparently massive fees they incur when it's used.
  15. I've not had problems using First Class International from USPS. I limit where I'm shipping to if I use that method. I stick with the UK, Canada, Australia and Germany. I've had no problems with the tracking and delivery confirmation in those countries and their postal systems are fairly reliable. I'm conflicted on getting rid of GSP, but it does let me reach a wider audience than it would if I just stuck with First Class Int'l.
  16. I feel like every player was an all star. Larionov, Konstantinov, Makarov, and the list goes on and on.
  17. The Soviet National Hockey Team was the greatest dynasty. International record of 738-110-65, and taking gold in 21 of 32 IIHF World Championships, and Olympic gold in 7 of 9 apppearances.
  18. I would be interested if the book was just a 9.9, but signatures just ruin the appeal for me. That said, I'm sure someone who is more appreciative of signatures will spend $2,500 + or - on it.
  19. Absolutely. There are plenty of excellent ebay sellers, and people who deal on the boards.
  20. After sifting through pages of bullcrap to see a few things of interest, it's a good topic. I will usually slab a book if I intend to sell it or if it is of a higher value. I prefer to do that because it can give any potential buyer some peace of mind for a grade and restoration check. It gives me peace of mind for the aforementioned reasons plus it will be better protected. I'm not a big fan of CGC's newer slabs, but I understand why people like them. They are are sturdy, but they feel a little too heavy to me. I can't speak to signed books, as I'm not a fan of signatures, but doesn't Erik Larsen just say and do things now to get noticed? I liked some of his ASM run back in the day, but I can't understand his porno cover to Savage Dragon. Maybe it's because I haven't paid attention to him since I was a kid, so I might be out of the loop.
  21. Some of the Star Wars titles I've read were fairly engaging. I liked the Punisher series that had started in 2014 or so, but was then derailed by Secret Wars.
