  1. I would love to see someone take a comic to them, have 1 'expert' grade it (without slabbing it), and he/she would say 9.2. Then go back a week later, have a different 'expert' grade it (without slabbing it), and they would say 9.4, Then a third week, go back, and get another expert, and they would say 9.2. I would be willing to bet this would happen more often then not. Some of the differences are such minutiae, I could see it going down like that. But they created this mess. I think it has to do with time of day, who the grader is, what kind of day they are having, and blood sugar levels.
  2. Action #1 Detective #27 FF#1 (the first Stan Lee and Jack Kirby which really put the Silver Age in the lexicon) AF #15 Luke Cage Hero for Hire #1 (Considered to be the first black superhero to be featured as a title character of a comic book, although there may have been a Golden Age book floating around about this, but the name escapes me.)
  3. The whole 9.2, 9.4, 9.6, 9.8, 9.9. They should have just made a 10.0, 9.5, and a 9. Why no 8.2? 7.6?
  4. I can kind of relate with the OP. I am no big game hunter. I have other things in life that take much of my disposable cash, so you will not see me bidding on heritage auctions, or clearing out a 100 long box hoard. I did buy 350 comics from a guy a few years ago. Mostly Bronze and Copper. I pulled out the 50 I wanted (SA Sub-Mariner #1, Iron Fist #1, X-Factor #1 thru 20, Secret Wars #1-12, Thor #337-#340 to name a few), sold 100 I didn't want/or already had, and still am trying to come up with the plan to move the other 200. It only cost me $360, and what I have sold off, pretty much has me at the break even point of my buy in. It has been a great learning and eye opening experience. I have mucho respecto for someone that can sift, sort and sell 100 long boxes. It's work.
  5. Meh...., without constantly calling on two bankable actors (DiNero and DiCaprio), would 1/2 his movies be as successful as they were? I love Raging Bull and Goodfellas. But he can't argue with the $$ the movies have bought in, 'Theme Park' or not. Unless it's a documentary, Cinema is escapism. Not sure why he became elitist on the matter.
  6. I just find my enjoyment of new comics waning. Some stories are ok, (I enjoyed the recent Kraven ASM run), but those are becoming less and less. When I walk out with 4 books and throw them in pile and don't read them for months and months, then I knew it was time to stop. I try and read EVERYTHING I buy. I'd rather use my $20 a month and find a mid grad Silver or Bronze book.
  7. At least attempt to understand what you have. I just don't get people. Everybody is sitting on closets full of gold. Amazing.
  8. Show him some ebay listings and ask if he could possibly come down a grand or two (or seven).
  9. OUT! O....U....T! OWT!!! I hated calling my LCS and telling him to remove my pull list, but fact is: I am not keeping up with the reading, and quite frankly, don't enjoy the new stuff anymore. My pull list was about 10 per month last year, down to 4 right now. He is a super nice guy. I know my $16-$20 per month of new pulls will not make or break him, but it is still hitting his bottom line. I love my LCS, but the new stuff just doesn't do it for me. I am strictly looking to build my Silver and Bronze (maybe Copper), and fill in holes. Unfortunately, he seems to be struggling finding inventory for his shop. It doesn't come through the door like it used to.
  10. Black Goliath #1-5 I was exhausted.
  11. Was it part of a recognized 'Pedigree' find. There is usually a premium on top of the value for that (ie. The Edgar Church Collection).
  12. I'm sorry, in Mr. Miracle it goes 'SNIK!', but Wolverines claws go "SNIKT!"
  13. My Grandma would'a bought one. She camped out like a teenager back in the 80's (she was in her 60's at the time) just to get front row to take Communion from him, when he made a Chicago visit. "Strange days indeed....most peculiar Mama....Whoa...."
  14. Whoa!! Is that a First Appearance Pope John Paul II? Did the value go up after his Sainthood announcement? Is it to late to speculate?!
  15. I am sure there is a definitive cutoff date as far as CGC Sig Series is concerned. But we could never actually verify which book was the last he ever signed.
  16. Yeah, head scratch. I mean, in this day and age, all that it takes is one poster to say 'hey this works', and it rolls down hill. Thank god the Surgeons General doesn't follow this model. I am not rubbing bread on my comics. Not even sourdough.
  17. My LCS had a nice Labor Day sale last weekend. Higher grade, very reasonable $
