  1. If you feel like you have more control over comic value fluctuations, I bow in awe. Isn't it easier to move stocks than comics? Tangible- yes. Control -not so much.
  2. And we can pretty much draw a parallel with comics to the sports card industry, during that same time frame. It is almost identical.
  3. Ok, so I picked this up a few weeks ago at Target. It was 50% off ($15 normally $30), and it is a blast. My 7 year old and I play it. Act 1 is a little tough for him being the shark, so I am the shark, then Act 2 he plays as the shark, and I play the crew, as it's a little more straightforward. Such great 1970's nostalgia for me, I remember seeing it in the theatre as a young lad, freaky back in the day.
  4. Article sounds like a small business owner, having trouble figuring out how to keep his small business afloat. Of course he is frustrated. He wants regular readers, who come in every Wednesday, and pick up their pull list. He can't get into a proper ordering pattern when the Specs call. We all lose a little something when another LCS closes. Today San Fran, tomorrow, your town. He makes valid points, many of which I have read on these boards already (minus the potty mouth). Personally, I think people are silly to buy Modern Comics with an eye on 'investing'. They will be the first things to come down in value, with a correction. But he can't control it.
  5. It is a waste of money, time and resources. Point is: If Marvel and DC would stick to about 10-15 titles per month, they could keep their better writers and artists on those, make 2 or 3 of them 12 issue mini series, alternating the lower tier heroes with those titles and cut the fat. Point- I love Captain America. Alex Ross is doing the current cover = good. Inside art = freckking awful. My 7 year old could do better. Lose the crappy Jessica Jones, and Ruins of Ravencroft titles, free up that $$ and give it to Ross, or anybody else who can draw some internal pages. This is economics, not rocket science.
  6. Opinion, yes, but numbers don't lie. I mean Jessica Jones Blindspot #1, clocked in at #128 last month. Ruins of Ravencroft Dracula, #1, came in at #117. Who exactly was asking for these titles to be produced? Obviously not the consumer.
  7. And Target (who blows away Wal-Mart imho) had their version of the Batman Giant, by toys, on an end cap, with other DC related stuff. Mmmmmmmmmarketing!
  8. "It's claimed that AT&T wasn't happy at all with Dan DiDio's latest attempt at rebooting DC Comics with the upcoming "5G" event, aka the "fifth generation" reboot of DC, which would have seen classic characters replaced with a "contemporary" take on the characters." Because that worked really well when Marvel went the 'contemporary' route.
  9. Not new news, but Amazon has been a game changer. My wife went out the other day to look for some type of picture hangers. The specific type she wanted was out of stock at the big box store, and likewise at the big craft store. She got home, jumped online, and ordered them on Amazon, were delivered the next day, with free shipping. She said- I want to support the local stores, but I spent 30 minutes and gas, only to find what I needed was out of stock, and Amazon got them to me next day, with free shipping.
  10. I think comic books publishers, continue to put themselves in these corners, by publishing too many titles, and not giving us enough quality. It's always quantity vs. quality with them. I would rather see 3-5 weekly books each put out by Marvel and DC, with great writers and top artists, rather than 8-12 titles put out each week with sub par writers, and awful artists. No need for multiple X-books, too many Batman family spin offs, stop the reboots, and please stop putting out titles of lower tier characters who nobody really cares about.
  11. Fascinating thread, even though the subject has been broached before. You know, with all great collaborative mediums (art, music, inventions), it's obvious once success and money takes over, the history gets muddled. The infighting, the legalities, the 'who did and didn't get screwed', come to light, get debated, and usually never get resolved. Someone brought up Brian Wilson and Mike Love of the Beach Boys. Which I think is a great analogy to Lee and Ditko. They both kind of needed each other to complete the product.
  12. CBCS is a lot looser imho. I picked up a 5.0, cracked it out, and have very little doubt it will come back a 4.0 maybe 4.5 When I bought it, I negotiated the price with that in mind.
  13. Well, no, I actually meant like a full 1.0 point. So don't be surprised if ti comes back an 8.5. So anything above that....happy day.
  14. It's people like you @poorcollector that the hobby needs now more than ever. You are the one who will keep it going. In this onslaught of digital media, short attention spans, and lack of old fashion collecting mentality, you are more important to this genre than you give yourself credit for. It's not a sprint, it's a marathon.
  15. "I would like to buy comic Captain America #1, please send me your contact information. I will pay handsomley when given you bank account routing number". Sincerely, The Prince of Rwanda
  16. Always thought a good rule of thumb, if not totally convinced, is to deduct -1.0 for CBCS
  17. Sentry WHY?! Miles Morales WHY?! Ironheart WHY?!
  18. Wiki'd this: Gretzky resold the card four years later to Walmart and Treat Entertainment for $500,000 for use as the top prize in a promotional contest.
  19. Interesting, but not for me, under any dollar amount. Don't think it has been mentioned, but Wayne Greztky and Bruce McNall jointly purchased a T206 Honus Wagner for $451,000, in the early 1990's. 50/50 is not a huge fraction, but I wonder who got to store it. Was it in a mutually held safety deposit box? A home safe? McNall turned out to be kind of a scum bag, but Gretzky never turned his back on him.
  20. Kind of like variants, with unknown print runs, and obscure ratio's....
  21. Iron Fist #1-14 and Luke Cage Hero for Hire up to issue 50 Some can get pricey (Iron Fists #14 and Hero For Hire #1), but fun to put together.
