If the folder is inactive, you can have all you want. I have 10 inactive folders. They don't clog searches or create redundancies when someone is looking.

Just came across a CAF that was updated in the last 24 hours. It's under a "collector"'s name, but he is a full on dealer with his own website.  TWO HUNDRED AND SIXTY pieces in his "SOLD" folder. doh!  Absolutely ridiculous!

Is that guy who's  art also shows up on romitaman site simultaneously? Name eludes me.

The layout is nicely designed (CLink even called it “museum quality”) but at the end of the day, no Punisher skull or full-figure Wolverine, I guess.

so in another thread - folks were beating up on Greg Land for photo reference work.  Tim Bradstreets method is to TRACE photographs. to the best of my knowledge he takes the photos - but he traces them to get this look. If someone knows otherwise, feel free to chime in. That's the story as I recall him saying so at a convention many years back.

The saving money part no longer applies I think.  There is now a fee per win that goes toward shipping.  At least that seems to be what is happening with me.

    Malvin

I haven't seen that.  Just ask them to change your shipping status to hold all items and not ship until you ask. Then when you amass enough - ask for shipping.

Presumably you've already paid HA.  But then you're saying HA will hold pieces over some period of time (e.g. a month or longer) and only send them once you give them the go ahead ??

I'm actually surprised they would even do that.  They must have hundreds of pieces going in and out every week.  I'd worry about my stuff getting mixed up with others.

Out of curiosity, what is your purpose?  Reduce waste (packaging)? Save on shipping costs?  They figure in the shipping as soon as the auction is done so do they recalculate shipping when combining your items?

They will hold items and consolidate. If you bid on several auctions - they can combine the items so you pay shipping only once. For those who are not impatiant it saves funds. And less headaches with shipping companies. As each shipment is stressful - there are less shipments this way. Clink also offers this.

With a minute to go, I was high bidder on the FF #112 page. That's a grail piece for me, but it was not meant to be, OUTBID! :(

So I went after the next best thing I liked that I could afford, the Avengers #316 cover.... With a minute to go, I was high bidder, but that was not meant to be either, OUTBID! :(

A minute to go leaves time for others to bid still. Best to wait a bit closer to the end. Still no guarantees in clink..or life. Food luck next time.

I thought many of the earliest books were sold intact to a collector?

For sure a handful like #1 are gone - but many remain.  I know I enquired about a storyline where groo was little (l'll groo) but as that was a multipart story he would want to sell all those issues together. Now that was real overkill for me. I got some tpb covers and called it a day. My groo fix is satisfied... for now.

Interesting that any buyer cares about how much the consignor nets in a sale.  I actually have a long story from the buyer's point of view I will share to follow when I have time to edit this post, and is another example to look at.

...I had left a bid on a lot of Al Capp originals, and some background ephemera, at a local auction which I was unable to attend since I was working that Saturday morning.  (CONT'D))

So, I had left a bid of $800, on my lunch break, with the auctioneer, and I won at $500.  Since I was not at the auction, I will never know if that was a bid he pulled out of the air, but I didn't (and still don't) care.

As I was picking up my lot after the end of the auction, I scraped up a worn piece of paper from the floor which described most of the contents of the lot which the consignor had previously attempted to sell through Jerry Weist @ Sotheby's?, anyway it had her contact info.  (CONT"D)

I actually contacted this woman to see if she had additional material I might be interested in, and she gave me some wonderful back story about the lot (another whole story), and, by the way, indicated she was having trouble getting paid by the auctioneer.

So, I contacted the auctioneer, and told him that I was aware of the $500 hammer, and hoped there was no further delay in the woman getting her share, which she finally did, and we even had a later deal (not comic related) based on our good faith that was by then established.

End of this story, and hopefully not too dragged out to be boring.  Best wishes, David

This entire thread is about selling.not about buying.  That's why we care. Ha ha.

That seems like a pretty fair price; are covers included in the $12.5k?

you get the whole book. covers (front and back, inside and out) and all. early issues all featured 2 page spread on page 2-3. also there is always a gag on the inside covers with sergio and the other artists talking about the issue. some issues had puzzles/games. these all come included if you get the complete issue.

from what I have heard - the reason you can buy individual covers from later series is that  some covers were accidentally sold - so he said to heck with it and started selling the art piece by piece. This is not true for the original series  - where he kept issues together.

Still high bidder on a few lots with tracking bids placed in the first couple days of the auction.

I usually place my max bids at clink with about 20 seconds to go due to the mediocre bidding system.

out of curiosity = -when I place tracking bids - its always the next bid as offered by the system. for example if the item is at $100 and the next suggested bid is $110 - thats what I do (when I am tracking). I don't put in 200 or some other higher number.   I do this because I am not trying to drive the price up, just want to track with minimal impact on price.  When you put in a tracking # - how do you approach it?

    Estimated based on experience.

I’m fairly certain most people look at fmv and net proceeds from a sale separately.

    I know I do.

It is all a mental calculation after that measuring risk/reward and urgency of receiving funds in the various formats of selling art.

ok. so the point of this thread was to look at it from seller pov.  if you are looking at final hammer with juice etc.. as fmv -  that puts even more pressure on the seller.

give you an example. i just won a piece at HA.   now as it happens to be a modern piece of art - I know what the artist was selling it for. lets call it 100%. I paid 90% of this price at auction, but the seller who consigned it to auction got 75% (assuming they didnt pay seller fees -only buyers premium).   In this instance, the consignor lost 25%,but I only saved 10%. this disparity is why its important to look at the amount the seller gets.

I don't think that is it, as what amazes me the most at heritage is there ability to get $1k for $200 estimated FMV dollar pieces, $2k for $500 estimated FMV dollar pieces and $5k for $1k estimated FMV pieces.

If I had to guess at values of hammer prices compared to my perceived FMV at the two sites I think it would look something like this.

    HA                                        CLINK

    15%       Way Above FMV    5%

    25%       Above FMV            15%

    50%       FMV                       45%

    8%           Below FMV            25%

    2%          Way Below FMV     10%

HA I feel has more upside, and clink far more downside, but for all lots that sell for FMV the juice at heritage stings.

Are you basing the above on your own experience or are those pure guesses? And when you say fmv - is that after all feels or before.  Because the way to look at fmv from seller perspective is after fees.

I had the same feeling about it but the top one was my #1 "must have" but I thought the bottom one was "cheap" and was worried I would loss the bidding on my #1 so I did a cut bid and won.  I figured at least I got one I really liked but surprisingly I won my #1 too with a cut bid.  It seemed like the big bidders didn't show up for the Peanuts strips this round which was good news for me.

Big is a relative term. You were the big bidder this round.  The pre- peanuts strip with the boy and his dog went fairly high ( but I will admit I have no comparison info)

Wow! The image is even more mysterious than the comment. Why did you want this piece in 2009? I am going to admit ignorance  about this piece.  Looks a bit like Kent William's- but what it is from (Blood?) and why someone would want it for so many years is still a bit of a puzzle wrapped up in an enigma. I dont think I could sleep if I knew this guy was in my house. :fear:  I am not even sure Jim D would have waited since 2009 for this? Let us know what makes this special so we can all appreciate it. If you want to that is.
