Can someone explain #comicsgate? Who are the players and what is the issue that could turn off a collector from enjoying the art they already own?

Love this piece. Always had a special place for Spidey vs Hulk covers. Hope to own one day myself,
By the way - your CAF link doesn’t work so I couldn’t comment.
Thanks. Corrected the link. Here it is AGAIN

Easy reader approved comic art by Sal B and Mike E.
Yup - its juvenile, and the clown here is not Pennywise. But a long time bucket list item.
See CAF LINK HERE.

Newest CAF addition (got this many years ago however) in my Bob Larkin homage gallery. Chris Uminga.
I believe you when you say a long time ago. He ever draws pupils anymore - so this must be early.

Happy to have found at least one example by many of my bucket list artists, but there are a few gaps (items I have zero examples from and would love at least one)
Frank Miller Daredevil page
Early Cerebus page
Rick Leonardi Spiderman 2099 page or Cover
Jim Lee Wildcats splash of Cover
Ben Edlund The Tick page or cover.
There is always more stuff that is of interest, but the above would be awesome to have at one point.

Hi
I already checked CAT for all available online art - but if you got a piece of art by Mark B that is not posted for sale already (any character) or a Travis Charest Voodoo page or sketch - would love to hear from you.
With respect to Beachum art - looking for non hard core stuff. Sexy is fine, just nothing hard core.

Just added a new Batman and Poison Ivy painting by Mark Texeira to my collection. It's the first unpublished piece I got in quite some time. The funny thing is that unlike many others(art collectors) - Batman (himself) is one of my least favorite characters in the bat universe. I am a much bigger fan of other gotham characters and will put up having batman appear on a piece of art as long as one of the other characters is there. I would be happy to have a drawing of just Spider-Man or just Superman, Deadman, Blue Beetle, Hulk, Thor and many others - but for some reason I only love Batman when paired up with some other characters.
For me Batman is the straight man in a buddy story. Serious, Tough, competant - but not especially fun. I bring this all up because I recently had a discussion with a huge Batman fan who couldn't believe I got a Finch piece of Batman with Solomon Grundy - because of Grundy. Or a Fabok piece with Bats and Batgirl - primarily for Batgirl.
In the end it doesn't matter that much that I got this piece of art for Ivy. As my first piece of Tex art, I am super happy to share it withall of you.
Any how - here is the link to the art. Art on CAF.

LINK to David S. Albright Vintage Art Discoveries on CAF
I put significant pieces on CAF, some are for sale, some are in the vault, but I have a curious resistance to posting what I think is my most valuable piece, the cover art for HULK #209.
This thread is making me rethink that I'm just being nervous about hurting the value of it.
I have some free time coming up, so I will try to get a pic of that cover, though it is in a frame.
Best, David S. Albright
OK! I just remembered I put in my Lowry as an entry for 2017 and it got 6 or 7 votes! David
That is a truly outstanding piece of art. Thanks for posting.

For sure! I put that on watch out of pure curiosity. Was this on eBay at $50K?
so I could be wrong, but I thought it was $30k

Because it gets more instant feedback from fellow collectors. CAF is kind of a gold old boys network in that the people who gave been around for a while get feedback whereas latecomers and ham and egged barely get noticed.
So can anyone suggest some facebook links for comic art? Possible groups?

Weird that Coollines had pricing on everything. I thought they didn't price stuff so that when a customer approached them they would measure them and price accordingly, lol! Who buys from them anyways? I know I don't. I contacted them about a trade so they gave me a price on what they were trading but when I asked them lets put a price on what I am offering they never got back to me! lol, figures.
*sigh* on those Sandman pages! One can only dream. I had to go back and look for that SS cover by Rogers! Its issue #1 but $25k? How much do you guys think would be a good price point for it? Nice cover!
That SS #1 was on ebay unsold a couple years back at 15k. Loved it then - but not so much the price.

Fresh to market for me . Means coming up for sale. An NFS item on CAF is not on the market. It's on display .. but is not for sale, so not on the market in my eyes.

Just added 2 new Sergio Aragones Groo the Wanderer double spread covers. One Features Chakal and the other almost the entire Groo Cast.

Another more fundamental question to ask is 'how does Stan define PRIMO?'
Is prime simply A list artist, Title and content - or is it also a Key Issue(first appearance, famous story etc..)? And how does that compare to the pieces being given up?
I started a thread a while back on 'would you trade most or all your collection for one expensive piece if art. At the time, most responses said no because their collections were meaningful and pairing it down to 1 was too restrictive.
The fact is - no one can predict the future. Better to invest in other stuff than art - but if the one piece happens to provide the collector with more joy than all the pieces he's giving up put together - than regardless of the market - their is a gain to be had.

Thanks for sharing. Nice to see comic art history un-pealed.

Anyways the #1 reason craft will never hold a candle to other considerations in comic art is that if craft were truly what the buyer wanted, they wouldn’t be collecting comic art in the first place, or at least, not limiting themselves to comic art. For the most part (please spare me the one offs and exceptions, people ) that doesn’t happen.
It will hold a candle as you say- when distinguishing among comic art.

Since craft is not appreciated, can someone please find me a nice Kaluta Shadow page?
Perhaps you need to read the whole thread again. Craft is a factor - and while nostalgia is a bigger factor - sometimes the reason we have nostalgia in the first place is the craft was so good!
Btw- I would agree with you Kaluta is good at his craft.

I went back and forth with someone yesterday up to 20K. Every time I bid, they bid more. Someone clearly wants this very badly!
Respectfully - can you say - has bidding high early ever worked for you? You mentioned going back and forth. Which means at one point you were on top and then he was on top. If you had put the big # in at the end as clink doesn't have back and forth at the end - would that not have worked better ?

Help educate me on this cover and why it's so high already. Not familiar with the artist and don't see the issue as a key. Really curious on what I'm missing. Is it because of the combination of the characters, or is uncanny x-force covers hard to get? Is this artist's work rare? Thanks!
It's the artist
He doesn't do a lot and has a bit of a cult following.
