  1. I remember working out at the Little Creek Naval Base years ago along with all the other 20-something single sailors with nothing to do that day. Then a few guys with prosthetics and burns all over them came and worked out for a little while. We just let them workout like normal people and not interrupt. After they left, one guy quietly said to himself what we were all thinking, "Man, happy Memorial Day."
  2. I'm not sure that this was a wake up call to law enforcement. They already know and train for this. In 2010 when I lived and worked in California, as part of my job, I read several daily law enforcement bulletins put out about SDCC. There were a ton of local, county, and state undercover law enforcement working that convention. There were federal agents assigned too. The worst thing I read (and then released to local media) is that there was a guy dressed as Pedobear taking pictures with kids at the convention. Of course there are always fights too.
  3. Thanks. It looks like they finally got some 200lb test sheets up on eBay. I could only find the flimsy stuff for the longest time.
  4. Of course it is always appreciated. I guess I just have to scan recent posts at night so I don't miss out.
  5. Is there a function on these boards to set up some sort of email alert when a topic like "ebay flash sale" is posted? I normally read during the day and most of these flash sale threads tend to be posted in the evening so I keep ending up missing out
  6. ...and all this time I've been using this for upholstery and carpentry and putting air in my tires...lots of uses.
  7. I believe his name is Salacious B. Crumb. I have no idea about cover appearances.
  8. This has happened to me a few times. Seemed like it was always with an LCS selling online and they always blame some stock boy for misplacing the issue. I just don't deal with them again even when they find it months later and contact me.
  9. Unfortunately there is no go-to source so you have to "do your homework" so-to-speak. Most agree that completed sales results such as eBay sold listings, GPA, and auction house completed sales are the best source of prices. This is fine if you are looking up individual sales of a specific comic. If you are looking up sales for entire runs of books, grab an Overstreet and find which books in the runs are the outliers. Price the outliers off completed sales listings. Take a sample of the run fillers and look up completed sales of those books and assume the other run filler books surrounding those are the same price. Generally speaking, 90something% of comics are worth $1 or less. Most collectible books are worth $1 plus shipping.

    Newbee!!!

I'm confused. I thought sig lines went away with the new boards. I haven't seen a sig line since the old boards. Is there a link to a discussion on this or how to create one in the new boards?
  12. Tax season. Good time to sell with all of those refund checks issued in March and April.
  13. Depends. Do you want $4 for your VF copy of whatever and have it listed for 6-8 months or would you rather sell it for $2.50 along with 100 other similar books and they all sell that week? What is more important to you - cash flow or top dollar? If each book cost you less than $1, you may want the cash flow. Basic eBay store gives you 250 BIN and 250 auctions per month so I do both. BIN the keys, auction the run fillers? That works.
  14. As a seller, I appreciate that some people want feedback so I give positive feedback as soon after I print the label. As a customer, I could really don't care what comments the seller left for me because the next seller has always accepted my money.
  15. Friday nights for common items. This is only done for my convenience but it works. Sunday nights for unique or high dollar items. Watch out for ending the bidding on a holiday, NBA finals, etc. Those are wildcard days and can be good or bad.
  16. I've used FedEx ground to ship long boxes and that seemed to be the most reasonable rate. You'll have to calculate shipping based on the shipping location and destination. I think that your estimate is close to reality if shipping in the U.S. I've shipped a long box coast to coast for cheaper than $60.
  17. Yes, I agree a higher number of PLOD for ASM 300 than 50 but the print runs were much higher for ASM 300 than ASM 50 so the percentages are different in favor of ASM 300 not being tampered with. Maybe I should have qualified the response: Be wary of raw ASM 50s because many have been restored but you can feel more confident buying a raw ASM 300 because a lower percentage have been tampered with. *I do not have the statistics to back this statement thus the use of the non-specific words such as "many" and "lower percentage".
  18. Sounds like you are interested in Amazing Spider-Man and started collecting in the 90s. $200-300 will get you raw and graded NM+ ASM 238 (1st Hobgoblin), 252 (1st black suit), 298/299 (McFarlane/Venom Cameo), ASM 361 (1st Carnage), or a mid grade ASM 300. You can buy these raw and not worry much about restoration. There have been a lot of ASM 50s that were tampered with and appear to be high grade. Ultimately you should buy a character or title that you like not a book that is hot and will send your nephews to college (remember "death" of Superman). Key books and high grade get you the best return on investment. Online auctions will get you the best price. Instead of targeting one specific book, make a short list of what books and what grade ranges you want to target. When one of those comes up for auction put in a bid. If you buy one at a fixed price, you tend to pay more but get exactly what you want. My list is so long, I let the books choose me: whatever is up for auction that week/month.
  19. I agree with you in part. Sellers are doing themselves a disservice if they don't take quality pictures of a quality book but time is money, if you are selling hundreds of cheap books, you only need a nice photo, not a great photo. For the collecting community, I'm not faulting anyone for their Instagram or Facebook photos that don't get the whole book in the shot, ugly background, glare, etc. Who cares? Collectors just want to show off the Spawn #14 they got that day at Big Jimmy's LCS, and the shop owner is happy they are tagged. I enjoy seeing whatever comic of the day posted: It's Valentine's Day! Here's my favorite romance comic! or It's St. Patrick's Day! Here's a comic with a shamrock on the cover. Would comic pics of the day happen if people had to set up the studio to get a pro shot? I like seeing the background of the people posting pics of comics on their kitchen table, it is authentic. By the time I create a scan, crop it, and put a background in, I could have just used a stock photo because they look the same on a cell phone. I appreciate quality photos and the effort it takes, but the people who post their dimly lit photos of their dollar bin treasures are cool too. Now, if people on Instagram can take clear pictures, why can't some eBay and Craigslist sellers?
  20. True, eBay is hit an miss. I keep good vendors saved to my favorite sellers list. If you don't like how they grade, send it back for a refund. They have to take it.
  21. Orlando Comic Shops It's a common question.
  22. Same message for my both of my accounts.
