Moderns that are heating up on ebay!
Tnexus replied to thirdgreenham's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
I think now is a terrible time to buy it honestly. It's hot right now since it's fresh in people's minds. Wait a bit for it to cool down. I also think with Covid ramping down people will be spending more on travel and other fun stuff so the money won't be flowing so freely for comics. Definitely seeing a slowdown in other keys, so this shouldn't be any different. -
Fun fact! The USPS processes over 24,000,000 packages per day.

Alright, this listing is the exclusive cover by Panini Italy of Star Wars: High Republic #1 by the master himself, Gabrielle Dell'Otto. I have 40 copies for sale. Asking $30 each. Shipping is $5 flat for as many as you buy. Willing to sell the entire lot for $1k. Alright, so here's the reality check. I pre-ordered a bunch of these from 3 different Italian sellers when I first heard they were going to be released. What has been made apparent by me is that Italians have no clue how to ship safely. I've received T-shirts with more shipping protection than these guys. One shipper literally taped together pieces of cardboard to make part of the box, another heatshrunk my order together which damaged some issues, and third, while better than the other two, shipped in an oversized box with only paper for padding. So, needless to say these are not 9.8 copies. There are dings and corner bends/damage on most. A couple have some minor printer defects. Surprisingly though, pretty much all the spines are in great shape. A good press will fix a lot of these issues, but post-press you're looking at maybe an average grade of 9.4. If there are any small-time pressers looking for an investment/flip lot, this may be a good choice for you. NM copies seem to be going for around $60 on Ebay, so figure I'd try at half price. I've pre-pulled my PC copies (which USPS has currently lost en route to my presser *sigh*), so I've decided to just cut and run on the remaining. I've taken detailed pictures of every copy. If you want to peruse and pick a copy or 40, here's the link. Just post which ones you want! https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1x_KoDgoTpDKfbeCQ0pejHFtjcAMZZgr_?usp=sharing

The fact that they put a sticker on there that says, "Received in Damaged Condition" should be the an easy insurance claim. Every claim I've had has been surprisingly painless. I hope the seller was smart enough to add additional insurance though.

Been using modern for a while, but just recently switched to Silver. Moderns are fine for your everyday, run-of-the-mill Marvel and DC copies. Anything with better quality pages or thicker covers I frequently find is too tight though. Silver seems to be the best overall option. I don't find the books are loose at all as it's only like an extra quarter inch of space.

Yikes. That's a pretty easy insurance claim if I ever saw one.

I don't think people realize that Paypal isn't technically instant. They just front you the money while it clears. Heck, depositing a check at a bank still takes a day or two to clear. -

Yes, before you paid Ebay 10% fees on the sales tax and Paypal 2.9% so you're actually saving money. -

That article just screams, "I have a bunch of X-Men Red #1's I'm trying to get rid of, so let's make an article to pump it."

Well I should clarify, the top book had a large color breaking crease which was a Star Wars Tales 23 that was very likely a 9.8. It affected up to 4 books. Subsequent books the crease got less. Two failed prescreen that had color breaks and two got 9.6s that didnt break color. I didn't actually notice the 9.6 creases until a few months later when packaging up to sell. You could line up the books and the creases all lined up. Can I say for sure these were damaged at CGC? No, but they did just come from CFP and were hand delivered for grading. And I trust Joey way more to handle books with care than CGC. This was also the same batch that CGC encapsulated one comic with a large dust bunny on the cover and another than I'm still not sure isn't a Sharpie mark. (The mark moves with the book. Book got a 9.6 so it definitely is something post grading.)

Waiting 4 months to have my books pressed at CFP only to have CGC then put a massive color breaking crease in a good chunk of them.
