Other than the Black Panther partial sketch cover, I'm trying to think of another convention giveaway that's gotten as pricey as this Moon Girl comic. (I'm sure there are some, but I just don't know what they are.)

    https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313&_nkw=Moon+Girl+and+Devil+Dinosaur+1+-cgc+-cbcs&_sacat=1&LH_TitleDesc=0&_odkw=Moon+Girl+and+Devil+Dinosaur+1+-cgc&_osacat=1&_sop=16&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1

    D23 Spiderman comics.
    X-Men 510 JSC cover.
Shield 1 partial sketch if you could ever find a copy of that.

  2. I guess it depends on your refund policy. If you say no refunds, I'd contact Ebay CS and explain your situation and have them look at the messages. If the item is as described, and he just wants to return it because he's now unhappy, I'd see if you can get them to deny the refund. If you accept refunds, you may have no recourse. I just hope you don't have to pay shipping. You should also note the weights of what you sent and the item returned in case he tries to scam you.

waited until later today when I could hopefully gain my composure before posting

received my Hulk 340 back today from the TM signing ... the book was submitted with a CCS press

I have complained before that it is rare that I am ever able to see any before/after improvements done by CCS and many others have echoed the same not knowing if their books ever saw a press or clean

    first the positives ....

    - my book appears to have no newton rings or scratches (a rarity)

    - there was some creasing by the Spider-Man image in the DM corner box that actually looks to have been removed by CCS

    - there was a slight indentation above the i in "Incredible" that also looks to have been pressed out

    and now the bad/ugly ....

    - the cover wrap is now completely misaligned when it was submitted perfectly centered

    - there is a piece of schmutz in the bottom of the slab to the left of Wolverine's claws

    - the book graded a 8.0 with off white to white pages .... this book should have come back no less than a 9.0 at worst and while I am no expert on page quality the off white distinction seems highly suspect

    - there were no graders notes given

I wonder if there's a spine roll. I know those ding books pretty heavily.

  4. 26 boxes? Wow. You'd need probably a van to transport all those right? Should narrow down in and out vehicles I'd think.

Does the storage company offer any sort of insurance compensation?

So what are my chances in getting eBay to cancel this 1099?  I've picked through all of this and I should have never received one because they're counting cancelled and non paying listings in their totals.

I'm guessing somewhere between zero and Nelson pointing and laughing?

I'd say about 0%. Even if they cancel it, it's probably been reported to the IRS already. It's on you to list the deductions and cancellations on your taxes.

I should have been more clear.  When I did the report for paid and shipped sales from 1/1/22 to 12/31/22, I was at about 19k.  Their report/1099 is showing me at 23k.  When I switch my search to all orders in the same time period, I get a still different number (but over 20k).  I'm trying to wrap my head around the discrepancies and also determine if I was sent a 1099 by mistake.

The more I look at their 1099, the less it makes sense.  Their monthly breakdowns are not possible with the amount I sold, even accounting for potential fees being added.  Anyone else having something similar or am I just really thinking about this in the wrong way?

Did you have cancellations or returns? Last year I sold something for 8k, but the buyer cancelled on me. The buyer never even paid, but my 1099 showed it as income. Definitely wasn't happy since I magically had an 8k "return" on my taxes that's probably a huge red flag.

So I received a 1099 from eBay for the first time this year and I'm confused.  My sales were a bit under 20k but for some reason, eBay is calculating my sales and adding their fees bumping me above 20k.  Is this normal?  Why would I pay taxes on their fees?

As in the initial sale was $100+12.9% (so $112.90), or the sale was $100 and they're counting it as $100 regardless of the 12.9% ($87.10)? If it's the second one, it's up to you to deduct those fees from your business expenses. They also tack on any returns you accrued.

Anyone know what these spots are on the edge of the slab?  They can only seen head on, they don’t show up from side angles, about half of the 100 slabs I just got back have this going on.

I think it's a thing with the sonic weld not fully welding. I've had a few in the past and was told they won't fix them for free.

I thought the 9.2 looked pretty good.  A few minor imperfections, but I thought I'd get a 9 at the very least, especially after the press.  I figured worse case an 8.5.  There was a *very* small nick on the back that I figured might knock it down a bit, but didn't expect to get nailed so badly.  This was the first time I've sent anything in for pressing and grading, so my eye isn't the best trained to estimate grades.  I should've had someone else look at them before submitting

    Here are the notes:

very light spine stress lines breaks color
very small crease right bottom of front cover breaks color
very small tear right top of back cover

I just figured it would be within a reasonable range of what Metropolis listed it as. That HoS 100 was near the top of my list, so I'm fairly disappointed.  Ah well, back on the hunt

I'm not the best pre-modern grader but that still sounds off. What page color did they end up with?

Resurrecting an old thread instead of starting a new one.

I recently got absolutely hosed on 2 raw books I bought from Metropolis:

House of Secrets 100 - sold as a 9.2 by Metropolis

House of Secrets 110 - sold as an 8.5 by Metropolis

Just got them back from CGC after a press and clean.

Both graded at 7.0... ouch.  Don't think I'll be buying any more raw comics from Metropolis

Out of curiosity, did they appear to you like a 9.2 and 8.5 before pressing/grading? That's a pretty big drop, what did the grader's notes say?

  11. In the end what you or I think doesn't really matter. The market is decided by the 1st or 2nd Google result that 99% of the collectors/speculators will take as gospel if they plan to invest. I have no really opinion on this, but you're best off making the argument to places like KeyCollector if you feel strongly about #2.
