  1. The Secrets of Young Brides aren't often revealed in Englandville so I snap them up whenever I see them, pence or cents. Look at that lot As we Charlies know, the cover is often a swipe from an interior panel. Though I like the actual cover here, I can't help but think they missed a trick by not using the later panel shown below which is far more striking: That's a lovely image, isn't it. Teddi Byrnes, apparently, so best use a condom, Wilson.
  2. Back to Tee and Pee, I spotted this nice 1961 magazine online in the week which I hadn't seen before, stamped two and six: I've still got a few of those 1-9 numbered price grids to complete, come to think of it.
  3. Rooting around in the files, the late in the day DD #29 has both the shilling and 10d oblong on it, which could be telling: Here's the 'early' Thor #128 10d, alongside a different style of shilling stamped #131 (same as Richmond's TTA #86): ...and a different 10d stamp on this TTA #85, for which we only have a 10d oblong Goldstar stamp (no shilling circle so far): I have others, but I need to tidy up the files!
  4. Indeed. Good job that UK stamps are universally disliked on both sides of the pond, otherwise someone likely would have by now.
  5. That's nice. I used to own this Spidey below - long gone now. I wish I'd kept it, as my love for the stamps has grown to the point where I actually prefer them to clean unstamped copies:
  6. I've got about six examples of the circular shilling stamp in the files for #42. I've looked at hundreds of UK based examples online, and out and about, and have yet to see a 10d oblong one. Yes, a tick in the column indicates the stamp as per the image at the top of the table column. If I've found any other stamp types, they're noted in the far right column. I likely have a few to add if memory serves - the saved images are split across multiple files so I need to check them all. I have quite a few 10d oblong Goldstar stamps on other publishers too, for cover dates outside the Marvel Hiatus ones. I'd like to pull everything together at some point, in one sequential post / journal entry, as all the data gets lost in this thread and others, and I find myself forgetting about a lot of it.
  7. We need our Australian experts to weigh in, but my understanding is that some Australian comics are printed in the UK because I've also seen them called "UK" comics. Two Brits had a go here: https://boards.cgccomics.com/topic/515109-does-this-book-have-the-correct-description-title-uk-or-australian-version-of-superman/
  8. Examples of amended cover plate sets seem hard to find @Yorick I did find this single K plate image though - an ASOS #75 shilling original with a later 6p priced edition (#124): Looks like he just snapped the top corner bit off and then dug an oblong hole in it. Proper technical, was our Alan
  9. Then I will explore! Tomorrow, though, as I'm also feeling Lazy.
  10. Nay, twas not oh winner of contests..... ....see first post of the thread.....
  11. Dunno, but Sue is doing the Charleston no Charlton jokes
  12. Well done everyone! @Yorick - is there no beginning, sorry, end to your talents mate!
  13. Niiiiice. I wish I'd kept my old copy now...
  14. Hercules seems to be saying "What?!? Nought d? Let me have it!"
  15. Indeed. Funnily enough, I did a bit of comic pottering just this morning and found an old exercise in a file that I'd forgotten all about. They soon get buried, when you post about things in long threads. I was hoping the Journal / Gallery functions here might serve that purpose - creating accessible static records of key stuff - but it doesn't look promising as I can't get anyone at CGC motivated enough to do something about the issues and lack of visibility. Still, it's their site, they pay the bills and we participate freely so you can't complain too much I suppose. I've been threatening to make my own website for years but I don't think I'll ever get there now. Too much going on really. Never mind. Look at the STL - who'd have thought all that info would bite the bullet. I used to like posting new Spidey printing errors there. It all goes in the end though, doesn't it.
  16. I added all the other images I'd collected and scoured for a few more - the updated table is filling up nicely: Richmond's TTA #86 is still stubbornly absent but it does look like all the other UKPV bearing titles in the second UKPV hiatus may turn out to have both the 10d oblong and one shilling circle priced copies out there. A bit like the first hiatus table I put together, showing all the T&P stamped copies in the gap. I'll print this off and take it to the next fair - see if I can find any of the missing stamped issues.
  17. It's a great piece of research Reggie - the kind of thread I wish we saw more of around here - threads from people like you who love comics and who are inquisitive and inventive
  18. Here's a nice clean FC that I picked up recently: I like the colouring, funnily enough. And what a name that is - Vint Bonner. I bet he liked a glass of wine or two.
  19. His description of it would be, pal, yes, but my description of it wouldn't.
  20. 12-13 can only be a US date. An American on holiday, who liked to date his comics?
