  1. I haven't posted here for a long time. The main reason for that is that I haven't found any new examples for as long as I can remember despite daily searching. I picked up an upgrade for this Dell Giant (I collect those) but other than that it has been slim pickings: I'm reasonably confident that the books I've captured and summarised here and over at The Pence Palace are it now, and that it's highly unlikely that any new Dell UKPVs will surface. That said, the Flintstones Giant that was posted earlier in the thread is the only example I have ever seen. Had they not posted it, I would assume it was never produced as a UKPV. So there is always hope that another example or two may surface. What is clear though is that the books are becoming remarkably scarce now. I've exhausted all the dealers as far as their stock goes and it's now a case of waiting for individuals to sell to them or pop them on eBay. There's no real value in the majority of them really, and I'm not stockpiling them or anything - I just pick up the odd clean copy if it's priced right alongside the Giants. But they're slowly dying out, as all things eventually do. Shame really, isn't it.
  2. Three examples now Kevin, yours, mine and eBays - all T&P twos, all stamped in different places:
  3. Morning Over in my Charlton UKPV thread I've posted occasionally about the 'RV' 9d cover stamps in the hope of identifying who they were. I won an auction lot recently and, alongside some lovely new UKPVs, a few more cents priced / RV stamped Charlies were happily present - here's one of them: It's quite a cool cover isn't it. Here's the RV stamp up close, in its usual shield style: Whoever they were, RV seemed to taken over the distribution of Charlton's from L Miller who ceased their UKPV copies at the end of 1963 (December 1963 being the last known 9d printed copies). The first RV example I have is cover dated February 1964 and I have captured multiple examples for most months all the way through to July 1965. When I first noticed them I thought they may be the stamp of a local shop or some regional outlet but I have collected so many examples now that that seems unlikely and something more extensive appears to have been in place. I've asked every knowledgeable UK dealer I know and none of them have a clue who RV were and only one said he had even noticed them. Google yielded its usual zilch. So there you go - yet another small historic nuance that has passed unnoticed into UK comic distribution history. Apart from my posts here, of course. See ya
  4. Looks a bit like a variation of a 9d Miller stamp actually (and they did do westerns): I've calculated a similar time frame to collect the Charlton Miller's so you're in good company! Yep, that's happened to me many times. I set the clock for special ones though.
  5. That's not dead centre! That's the whole bloody cover!
  6. I saw him!! I saw him!! Did you?? Did you?? I did!! I did!! Why are we saying everything twice?? Why are we saying everything twice?? I don't know!! I don't know!!
  7. Find me one with the UPC slap bang in the middle Aman. There's got to be one, surely.
  8. I'm giving up on posting (incorrect) plagiarism references! Dropped the Mohican though didn't he Thanks Eric. I don't know why I bother most days, given the lack of responses to countless posts which invite comment, but your kind post singular is enough to spur me on
  9. Post it, would love to see it. Little chance of it being an original UK distribution book though - read on here if you're interested Gary about when T&P stamps started to appear in the UK: https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/471133-a-brief-review-of-the-first-official-uk-distribution-of-us-published-comics-in-19591960/page/9/?tab=comments#comment-11386438 91 is the first Kid officially distributed in the UK, being a 9d printed copy, followed by 95 on (no 92, 93 or 94): I've not found any evidence of earlier issues coming to the UK, or the missing 9d issues, at least not from the perspective of a tell tale distributor stamp. What Kids are you missing?
  10. Bottom left normally isn't it. Sometimes though, the layout man gets creative. Or woman of course. They can layout just as well. Got any more? *you'll never guess what's at the bottom of this barrel...
  11. Ok, I really want to sell this comic for four and a half grand. What should I put in the title I wonder....? That should get their attention. I mean three quid is three quid. Now, I think something about the condition in the description might help it to sell. Let's check this Overstreet thing out.... Right... I see. Fine, Near Mint. Riiiight. I think I see what's needed here.
  12. My word, if a page is worth this much.... ...these are a flippin steal! Hurry!
  13. Number 20, Bold 10 Cents and no Pence Copy... Number 21, Bold 10 Cents and no Pence Copy... Number 22, Bold 10 Cents and no Pence Copy... Number 23, Bold 10 Cents and no Pence Copy... 14. Brennans would be a good guess given the area - nowt on Google that I can find though.
  15. All is cool. Sometimes what we type reads differently to what we meant to convey! Whilst the focus of this thread is the APVs, I do like the locally printed Yaffa publications too. Some of them are very nice looking and I like the absence of the top cover banners which give more prominence to the cover art: Someone should start a separate thread on them
  16. Cor! The stamp is a new one on me. Looks like it ends '...ENNANS'
  17. It is interesting, sorry I didn't mean to sound crabby. They're still at it 30 years later! The full current AVP number list is in my journal by the way - any and all contributions about them are welcome here Kustomizer
  18. Indeed, they're really scarce in pence or cents over here. Number 91 for the first Kid by the way Gary (then 95):
  19. One more quick one, next time you're in Edinburgh, pop into Bobbie's for me would you? He's known for his bargains
  20. Ok, hands up if you like Tower Comics? Split! For some reason Thorpe & Porter tipped the Golden Keys Bow Locks when it came to distributing Gold Key comics in Blighty. And I know why. Because they were too busy distributing bloody Tower Comics! Here's the Tower summary of power from GCD: Bizarrely, T&P distributed all these: Were they mad? Or just geniuses? Or is that genii? Whose eye? Jeanie's eye. My oh my! Shut up. Anyway, lots of weirdness in the Tower collection who T&P must have fought Len really hard for for the rights, nay glory to distribute. First up though, can someone look up the definition of plagiarism for me please? Nice one and six there on our Mohican sporting Abomination. Sorry, completely unconnected monster in the Tower comic. But here's what makes the Towers unique in the world of T&P stamping practice. Now, what do you do as a T&P Stamper (their actual job title, honest) if the cover is so dark that you can't find anywhere to stamp it? Answer - stamp a sticker! Jeptha Judge of Israel, have you ever seen the like of it. Yes, actually. I've got a few examples in the files, and they're the only examples I've ever seen of this practice. Here's another type unique to Tower - a T&P sticker over a T&P stamp: Cosmic! And one for the UK nostalgics, a Comic Showcase comic ('FM' being the grade 'Fair to Middling'): Weird stamp on it too, once debagged - cents and pence: And here's our old friend 'S.B.S.' again: So, what other exciting oddities exist for Tower then? None. That's it.
