  1. Can't believe how cheap that Colan TOD cover is right now. Sorely tempted!!!!
  2. I pegged it at $200K, but it's probably going to end up around $150k-175k
  3. First panel appearance of the Lizard. Has a BIN tag of $75K. Wowza. There's also a Kirby page from Golden Age Captain America #5! Alas, no Cap. But, again, Wowza! And then there's this...holy bejeebus!
  4. This is slightly off topic, but this is a wow piece over at Comic Connect.
  5. Have you ever tried making a scale color poster print of one of your pieces from a scan, and then give it to the framer as a guide? Or is that too much hassle?
  6. There are three McFarlane Spawn pages in the current C- Link auction that should tell us something. Two of them are Splashes.
  7. The Ron Lim IG page is still pretty affordable.
  8. In reality, I think Stegman is importing his interpretation of Wolverine to Batman, which actually works!
  9. The current bid on that Marvel Team Up #1 page is pretty low IMHO. Also too that Colan Tomb of Dracula Cover.
  10. I do have a suggestion for a future Podcast for Felix. If he's in the Columbus area for a convention or other business, he may want to arrange a talk and tour of the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum at Ohio State University, to look at and discuss their quite impressive Original Comic book art collection with the curator. (link to the homepage).
  11. The Batman art trend is toward a more feral Batman. A rough beast, who is built like a member of Seal Team 6 rather than an Olympic athlete. In other words, a man built for combat and killing. ADDENDUM: Finch's Batman excepted, of course. Batman's a Calvin Klein underwear model in a mask.
  12. Here's the other Stegman Batman sketch that was generating buzz.
  13. For those wondering, here's that Ryan Stegman Batman convention sketch I was talking about.
  14. Are you the gentleman who bought the Court of Owls Batman #1 Cover?
  15. Only problem is, his Batman is kind of derivative. In fact, it looks like he ripped off Ryan Stegman's famed convention sketch of a grisled, Seal Team 6-bodied thicker Batman. Which, is itself derivative ultimately of DKR, and it sure seems very Capullo-esque as well. Thing about Miller's Batman take, it was wholly original and unique. It was a massive paradigm shift, not only for Batman, but for the entire Comics industry. There's no way this mini-series, even if it's really good, will do that. In fact, it's more of a new take on the Joker than the Batman. The conceit of one of Batman's Villlains (or a major DC villain) using the legitimacy of elected office to battle him or other heroes is also derivative. (See Penguin and Lex Luthor).
  16. Well, the OA from it looks pretty damn killer. But, it's not enough to have killer art. You have to have a killer, paradigm changing story as well.
  17. Would that be Sean Murphy's "Batman: White Knight?" If so, it would be kind of ironic that he's calling it his "Dark Knight."
  18. Museum Glass is cheaper, and doesn't scratch. But, at that size, Plexiglass is much lighter and more durable (i.e.it won't break). Also, you can't be glass as far as how it shows off the art. You have to buy top of the line plexiglass to get close. Plexiglass does have a susceptibility of accumulating scratches over time. And, its uncertain how the newest plexiglass holds up long term. You don't have to worry about glass clouding up over time. But, for a bigger piece glass is much heaver, and as Gene pointed out, you run the risk with glass of it breaking and damaging your art. With a larger art piece, you really need to make sure its anchored properly in the wall if you frame it with glass.
  19. When I heard you talk about this artist on your Podcast while back, Felix, I assumed you were talking about Capullo! Obviously, not.
  20. If so, that means there were at least two bidders willing to pay at least $30K for that cover. And, I suspect that final price was North of the publicized $50K, if in fact Capullo was so reluctant to sell it.
  21. Yeah, I'm not sure I get that. Why would McFarlane INKS on Capullo garner that much of a premium? Even on Spawn?
  22. I think his Spawn stuff is also seeing a halo effect from his Batman work.
  23. That's fair! And you are very reasonable in this assessment. I am merely throwing this out there is a data pint that suggests - but does not prove! - that maybe the OA hobby's longer term prospects might not be as dire as some very thoughtful and knowledgeable collectors believe. Then again, I saw a nice Finch Batman page on eBay plummet from the initial asking price to a point I thought suggested that maybe the market for his Batman panel pages was inflated, or coming down from a high. So, the Capullo bubble may not be having a carry over effect to other well-regarded modern Batman artists. Then again, it was only one page.
