  1. 1998, but Bonds, like Barry, fall under trading card (non-sport) auspices and are called "Rookies"
  2. The best (safe) investment for the remainder of April 2022 are USA Series I bonds. Rates not only at a generational high but at an all-time high! Hurry folks they must be purchased today and tomorrow only. I do wish the purchase limits were higher... https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidkudla/2022/04/25/strike-now-on-i-bonds/?sh=2eb58b601c61 https://clark.com/save-money/best-time-to-buy-series-i-savings-bonds/ https://www.forbes.com/sites/chuckjones/2022/04/27/only-4-days-left-to-buy-i-bonds-paying-85/?sh=31761cf52f6a Are Series I savings bonds interest taxable? The interest that your savings bonds earn is subject to federal income tax, but not to state or local income tax Heck of a lot easier money than selling raw books on Ebay for $30-$80 dollars and rather inflation proof For better or worse and contrary to the "working hard" paradigm that many subscribe, most "real money" generally made in this world is with the least effort.
  3. General question: Does a single sale of Copper book qualify for the title of the topic? Heating up or selling well in regards to Copper I feel needs to represent at least small handful of sales say 5 in month (or day or week). The sale of a single raw copper book in my opinion does not qualify as hot nor does a single sale of a graded. Of course a single sold copy (assuming it really was sold) can be used in price charting, but the topic of his thread is "Copper's Heating/Selling Well" not "collecting one off sales data for analysis" . That really needs to be it's own separate thread. Bottom line one or 2 copies of copper book sold in a month or many months, simply does not mean heating up or selling well! All that said, I feel the thread starter should make the call. Paging; @fastballspecial
  4. Possibly the intention from the start? If so, it was well done!
  5. Based on Evaniers blog he's not involved and I'd find it hard to believe he is able to keep quiet about it if he was.
  6. Refreshing to see this compared to the normal high pop stuff! Seeing a bit of a "ripple" on front? So not sure about this but here goes: Thinking 6.5/7.0 might go to 7.5 with a quality pressing. Great book and thanks for posting them.
  7. Just realized the photo of Nimoy/Spock was used on one of the books in my current signature
  8. Hurt feelings is purely a civil lawsuit and likley dismissed as frivolous. So yep agreed. The large potential issue is; Private Personally Identifiable Information was revealed without consent on a publicly viewable platform. Crossing states (even if electronically) places it under federal jurisdiction. If something "bad" was to befall that person and it's traced back the seller could be both criminally and civilly liable. Fed prosecutors looking to make a bone love this stuff....eBay too is liable, however they have a huge expensive legal team already on their payroll plus huge corporations are basically Teflon. IMHO the safest move by the seller now is to contact an attorney to determine if contacting eBay to have what is a possibly incriminating post removed is legally-wise or other way to proceed regarding the situation.
  9. Great Cover! Nice to see something that is not high population in PGM. 7. 7.5 perhaps 8.0 if done by a true professional presser. Did I mention it is great book. My #3 is sitting in CGC queue since late Nov. Glad I went fast track [/sarcasm]
  10. When you have business that exceeds what you are able to feasibly handle and no true competition the customer comes last. Once you determine that the business from any individual customer is not needed , Q/A + Q/C are nothing more than useless expenditures to be slashed to pad some Executive bonus'. The worm may eventually turn but CBCS w/flipper extraordinaire B0r@ck is not an answer to fill a gap in competition. Outside of disingenuous lip service nothing customer related will improve at CGC under Bl@ckr0ck. With nothing seemingly on the new grading company horizon for comics enjoy the many metaphorical kicks to the nad's coming your way for the foreseeable future.
  11. Smart move on the 361 money can be spent on a book on the rise? The salad days (or daze) for #361 ended when the 2 copies I purchased as late teen came back from CGC as 9.8's. On that day it was going for approx 850-900 now at half that amount Buy-it-now's sit on eBay unsold. While it may have a dead-cat-bounce left in it my opinion is book will settle at $300-$350. Which given the huge Census population still seems like good coin. Lets face it Carnage at best is a cheap-jack Venom with a CGC 9.8 pop that will exceed 6000 by end of year. #299 - copy I purchased as a mid-teen, came back 2 weeks after my 361, again with a 9.8. As I recall at the time the book was a tad over $1000. The CGC 9.8 pop is pretty near 1/6 of 361 and perhaps one day it will be given more respect. IMHO the last page of 299 is Classic Venom and significantly nicer looking page than any Venom page in 300 and rivals the cover of #316 for my favorite Venom depiction. the 9.6's and 9.4s exceed the 9.8's by the amounts they do likley due to the condition sensitive back cover. That TSR ad is rather susceptible to color loss. Books CGC Label CGC Total Avg. After the scan was taken I was able remove it using PlastX
  12. Thing is if the money meant nothing to purchaser then why would they not just buy a slabbed 9.8? Or 2 9.6's? If the money does mean something then why not purchase the 9.6 slab for less and save funds? Something just does not add up
  13. Wow, I had no idea Byrne and Big John were that prolific. Also surprised Dan Decarlo and Warren Kremer did not make into the top 10.
  14. Nowadays that seems the norm
  15. In Schrodinger's imaginary experiment, you place a cat in a box with a tiny bit of radioactive substance. When the radioactive substance decays, it triggers a Geiger counter which causes a poison or explosion to be released that kills the cat. Now, the decay of the radioactive substance is governed by the laws of quantum mechanics. This means that the atom starts in a combined state of "going to decay" and "not going to decay". If we apply the observer-driven idea to this case, there is no conscious observer present (everything is in a sealed box), so the whole system stays as a combination of the two possibilities. The cat ends up both dead and alive at the same time. Because the existence of a cat that is both dead and alive at the same time is absurd and does not happen in the real world, this thought experiment shows that wave function collapses are not just driven by conscious observers. Einstein saw the same problem with the observer-driven idea and congratulated Schrodinger for his clever illustration, saying, "this interpretation is, however, refuted, most elegantly by your system of radioactive atom + Geiger counter + amplifier + charge of gun powder + cat in a box, in which the psi-function of the system contains the cat both alive and blown to bits. Is the state of the cat to be created only when a physicist investigates the situation at some definite time?"
  16. As I understand it PETG will not discolor due to UV exposure but offers very little if any protection from UV's. The UV's simply pass right through it which ain't good for comics. The 914M2 Mylar will help quite a bit but still I personally do not expose my books to Natural light nor Florescent. Modern White LED Bulbs are probably safest. For the majority of LED light bulbs, in industrial applications and otherwise, they do not give off UV radiation. In earlier incarnations of LED lighting the reason they did not emit UV radiation was their inability to give off white light. However, since the advent of white light LEDs, this has changed. White light LED bulbs are created by coating brilliant blue LEDs in phosphor. This allows the blue to be absorbed and only allow the white to come through.
  17. This is far more of problem than in the past. One of the many reason last Nov I suspended all my CGC submission until they improve - if they improve. I still have 5 submissions in motion and it keeps me up at night thinking how many of my books CGC will damage.
  18. I work for a Fortune 25 Financial Sector Corporation, it is the way everyone of (perceived) importance talks - the higher up the person the more the speak like that gets. For better or usually worse given the 100's of Billions of Dollars per Quarter that flow through firms like my employer's, talk like that is as real as real life gets. To some extent what occurs with and within those giant firms has the ability to affect nearly every American who lives "on the grid". Perhaps @Troy Division also works for a Multi-Billion Dollar International Corporation, if so it is likley how they speak there as well. Oh and yeah I don't like that type of speak all that much, but when you are in the deep end of the pool you must know how to swim. If not then no further 1970's OA Avengers covers will be on my horizon
  19. I do not follow the logic of how it's a valid a data point. Bidder (the only bidder) appears to have been purposely person eff-ing around or perhaps carrying out some vendetta? Does anyone else consider this known and admitted Non Consummated sale valid data? Will that be the next thing in the hobby; base sales data on items that never actually sold? P.S. I've never understood that segment of the hobby that spends nearly same or the same for raw rather than for graded. Solar 3 in CGC 9.8w goes for $155-$185, in 9.6w goes for $100-$120. So $80-$95 for a raw copy seems highly unwise, but again as mentioned I just don't get that part of the hobby.
  20. Slabs are protected from normal handling and look nice in E Gerber 914M2. 2 mil Mylar offers significantly greater UV protection than CGC's slabs For light scratches and scuffs; a bit of muscle and PlastX - don't use the sandpaper pads though
  21. Has Mr Cox been contacted by Glen or Jeff? Based on past history Bill will do what he can but he needs to be made aware.
