  1. A now "classic" scheme is: For several months or more buy up an item say Graded 1986 Fleer Jordon's in Mid grade and lower high grade. Then manipulate a Graded Gem Mint 10 auction or 2 of the same card to sell for say 500,000k+. Some might think why pay all those auction fee's? Well the cards they have been buying up in mid and lower high grades will ride the coattails and then they sell, sell, sell. Shelling out 50-100k in auction fees to make several million is rather shrewd business. Morally dubious at best, but moral folks are not Trading Card Dealers* Then we have schemes that a honest person like myself can't even imagine... Not saying is a totally rigged game but more often than not in in modern times it is. * = I'm positive an honest trading card, comic art, and comic book dealer exists, but in the past 40 years I've not met even one. That includes a good buddy of mine.
  2. Anyone willing to pay ebay their final values fees can perform all the maket manipulation they want. Of the many different manipulation schemes the most effective are those which look the most legit BTW this is also being done in many other hobbies especially trading cards. Also with auction houses like Goldin and Heritage I'm positive an honest trading card, comic art, and comic book dealers exists but in the past 40 years I've not met even one. That includes a good buddy of mine.
  3. I feel for most "vintage" OCA collectors Artists Editions scratch itch for merely for items that are unattainable due to value or being locked in a collection. I'd love to have a piece in an Artists Edition - way cool cred for collectors braging rights
  4. 7.0 possibly 7.5 with a good press as the back of book appears it might benefit.
  5. Correct. In 2022 there have been others ways to read Comics for nearly 2 decades. For better or worse the comic book industry as whole is not one that can survive on the basis of those who "read comic books". Times change...see "buggy whips'
  6. Steve, I don't entirely agree. There were several pages in the story I feel did. Infantino's "style" in 1977 I do not think was a match for the book. Sadly, the Fly other than on some of the covers was not given A or even B list interior artists. Purchased 12.5 years apart the OW/W with less nice wrap cost me 30% more (not accounting for inflation) than the White page nicer wrap copy.
  7. 5.0 Perhaps 5.5 with a true professional C&P?
  8. If for example the the CRC32's , SHA-256 , SHA-512 (or MD5 assuming no funny biz) hashes of the files are the same, then files themselves are the same that is proven verifiable indisputable mathematical fact. Where differences will occur is in the bringing the image contained in the file data to our human analog eyes. That is dependent on hardware, hardware settings, printing methods and mechanisms right down the paper and exact type of toner, ink, etc used. Even 2 comics printed from same press at nearly the same time have variances. However none of that changes that the Digital files are exactly the same.
  9. I prefer a close up of the front spine but from what I see, a possible 7.5 that presents nicer than its "technical grade". I'm a big fan of Aparo's Spectre
  10. Knowing what type of damage to a book will be lessened from a pressing is paramount. If not you are merely wasting money and time. Pressing is NOT a panacea for most grade lowering defects on a comic, it helps only a subset. Which brings it back to, learning which defects will be alleviated by pressing is key.
  11. https://www.comics.org/issue/169901/cover/4/ Overstreet mentions "2 versions, B&W and tinted color" The production "artwork" is B&W
  12. 2nd best, Ornella is #1. She's even hotter than Betty Rubble!
  13. You win the thread! Only thing not perfect is the image of Ornella looks nothing like her
  14. They are more difficult to obtain in 9.4 and higher than Marvel Hanna's. While I got a deal, I still overpaid for mine. Its 1/1 in 9.8 and I figured I may never have the opportunity again. There is a 32 out there right now also 1/1 in 9.8 , its pricey but not obscenely so nowadays. When its sold it may close the door on 9.8' s on 31 and 32 for many many years. If i did not have 31, I would have grabbed the 32. Good news; Raw midgrades of these multipack only Flash Gordon Movie issues seem to be in decent supply
  15. I have all 5 Steel's figured I'd post one that gets less love Those All-Star pages re-inked by a young Ordway are fantastic. There is a CAF gallery that contains most of Steel 6 before the re- ink , they sure look different. Different as in less polished and less substantial.
  16. (General Kala, Flash Gordon approaching.) General Kala: What do you mean Flash Gordon approaching? Open fire! All weapons!
  17. I do realize if #31 had been at regular auction it would go for less than the fair-ish price I paid but who knows when another will surface? For me this represented a rare occasion when I did not see the book in hand prior to purchase. Got lucky as it is what I call a 9.8. #32 1/1 is still out there. I'd love to have it but will be hard to justify overpaying when I already have #31. Still I do think about Books CGC Label CGC Total Avg. 18. The film is truly Classic cheese and I love it. As a child I think i watched it 5 times during Spring Break in 1983 or 1984? Was able to get a "fair-ish" deal on this 1/1 Seemingly there is no reason for these extraordinary inter-galactic upsets
