  1. CGC just sent out an email seeking barbed-wire experts in addition to VHS tape and Booger collection experts. I do keep my much of my Comic Collecting private/secret although with Original Comic Art its probably been a double edged sword.
  2. Social Media pimp's must have really made a thing of this issue to their sheep. At least it's not a 1st appearance so at least there's that. 423 is a nice cover but I prefer other McFarlane Batman covers over it. Here's my favorite Todd Batman Cover in order: 1) Detective 576 - regardless of what the "market" says, IMHO this is THE Classic McFarlane Batman Cover. 2) Detective 577 3) Batman 423
  3. ^ Solid writing from Mantlo. Standout covers for me are #9 (Byrne/Austin), #19 (Layton), and surprisingly these; #16 (Lubbers/Mcleod) and #8 (Robbins/Esposito) - one of the few Robbins pieces I truly like. I'd post them but I've owned them for years so do not qualify for this thread. The interior art on most issues is not my cup of tea.
  4. With a bit of vision Overstreet 15-18 years ago could have become the modern Day GPA. Instead of what is pretty much a curio of the past. I picked up the yearly book from the time I was child in 1982 until 2020. It's now nothing more than a too tiny print sized anachronism in my mind. As for Comics and Real Estate; it appears, sadly, that "1st App" "1st App" "1st App" is equivalent to "Location" "Location" "Location"
  5. Sampling of my non raw's. While 2 decades prior to my earliest childhood collecting days the Mid to late 60's Showcase books have always appealed to me, especially 1965-1966. Raw purchase at a mid 1990's con from Harley: Raw purchase at a 1990's con from Motor City - at the time it was most I'd ever spent on single comic. Spring 2000 purchase from Vinny just before he joined Metropolis. If I recall correctly at time of the 1st CGC census this was highest graded copy and 1/1 - no more on either... I'm a strict grader and I feel I have a potential 9.4 candidate of the highly condition sensitive Showcase #57 waiting in Sarasota since Dec to be graded. We'll see
  6. Merchant accepting payment and not performing the agreed upon service is Fraud. Unrelated to Criminal Fraud: What many do not realize is that the merchant bears all cost responsibility when a cardholder files a credit card dispute. Win or lose the dispute the merchant is on the hook for the dispute expense. How much they pay is based on the amount of business they do with Mastercard/Visa/AMEX etc. If all who believe they were not provided the service for which they paid opened a dispute with their Card Issuer eventually (probably) something will be done and the Merchant will need to start to do things "better".
  7. Looks like a strong 9.4 or a weak 9.6. In mid 2021 9.6 was more likley but grading seems to have tightened on Modern Tier keys the last 5 months.
  8. This book I shipped out in Sept 2021 returned to me yesterday. Amazing Spider-Man 238 first went on sale Dec 1982 during the waning days of my personal childhood "newsstand era" so my 1st childhood copy is rough shape. Early in 1984 while at my LCS I read in some publication the name of which I no longer recall that ASM 238 was poised to go up in value. The cover of the book they pictured in Black and White was the Direct Sale version. I thought the direct sale 238 looked extra cool with the Spidey face in lieu of the UPC and I made my way to the back issue section. There were 3 copies. One was missing the Tatooz, I picked the nicest of the remaining 2 and paid the .75 cents which at the time was the price of most new Marvel and DC's This exact copy of this book represents several 1st's for me. 1) First back issue I ever purchased as an upgrade to a book I already owned. 2) First 1980's or newer book I've ever submitted to CGC that I knew would never be a 9.8 3) First book I've submitted to CGC which I've ever had pressed - the 22 year streak endeth. 4) First "special" CGC label in my collection as I'm really not fan of them. I graded this as VF/NM in the 1990's as noted in my spreadsheet, and before I submitted i figured a 9.2 as is. There was a light non-color breaking finger type indention likley from when the Shop owner (Thanks Ken!) originally bagged it. Due to some spine dings that go through from front to back it would never be a 9.6, but I figured nicely displaying 9.4 if pressed was very plausible, and was correct. I also knew it was not going to get White Pages. The front of shop I purchased it back in 1984 had a southern exposure and the sun shined directly on the back issue section specifically the lower letters in the alphabet (Thanks again Ken!) I'm thrilled to have my childhood 238 back CGC, finally! Regardless of the going rate of the newsstand edition, I greatly prefer the direct sale version of this book!
  9. It was a humorous tongue-in-cheek comment. Run of the mill Marvel book's can jump from $50 to $1000 on the most causal of rumors while DC keys (outliers aside) ofttimes stagnate with little interest. Humor aside ROI's on the whole greatly favor Marvel over DC.
  10. To the original poster, please do not quit your Job based on the pictured item.
  11. I was very lucky I started collecting art in 1999. 10 years later I had obtained my "Holy Grail" in a place I never would have expected. Have a bunch of other major and minor grails. I try not to focus on what i missed out on but on what I succeed in obtaining and how it will help me retire early. What I am most proud of is all my hundreds of art acquisitions were above board and never once did I pay an artist less than what was the going rate at time of purchase. While i still make trades, it appears my buying days may have ended as my last purchase was Early March 2020. All good things....
  12. Given similar posts I've seen on Trading Card forums it would not surprise me if it was. Yea if a book like those I mentioned turns out to be the case I'd probably need a jab of Thorazine to stop the laughter.
  13. 1950's Playboy, in many but not all issues, you are lucky if so get so much as a distant shot of side boob. Those who must read those 1950's articles that delve serious issues of their day like "How Much To Tip The Wine Steward" or "How to inform your Haberdasher you don't like the cut of fabric without hurting their feelings" then pick up the DVD collection. Above post written in jest, mentioning because many here seem to have a mission to point out any and all factual (and sometimes grammatical) inaccuracies - aka they have NO sense of humor.
  14. When you pay for the Premium Walk-Through service you do expect to get Premium Walk-Through service, still posting on a public forum and making threats I'm sure goes against any Attorney's advice. When all is said and done I do hope it's not a copy of something like ASM361, ASM365, Spawn 1 or X-Men (1991) #1
  15. Agreed. Still the folks that collect 1970's Marvel Price Variants for example are only a small faction of the hobby and that's been a "thing" for 4 decades. It will be curious to see...
  16. I'm fluent (well semi-fluent) in 4 languages. English being an absurd kludge is the most difficult of all to write or speak "correctly" .
  17. That describes modern day CGC as a firm. "On some occassions they will make things right but it will be a stressful hassle"
  18. I submitted a fast track Modern CCS Mid Oct, I received it back last week. 7 months for Fast track economy. I have multiple non fast track submissions sent Oct 2021. Just know this 2-3 times a week when you get those CGC signing event emails that each one of them will jump ahead of you in line for pressing and grading. Due to that nonsense and complete absence of quality control I've not sent in anything since Nov 2021 and frankly may never again. I'm a collector, I do not sell comics, and was submitting only for 'fun" I did send CGC a decent amount (generally $1500-$2500 per year worth) of submissions since 2000, but it's now perfectly clear CGC does not need or want business from those like me. Blackstone certainly does not care as by the time the next lean time for CGC arrives they will have long since sold them off.
  19. IMHO CPV's are almost genus onto themselves with their own hardcore sub-set of collectors . I purchased a bunch in high-grade raw (all since slabbed) at NYCC 2018&2019 wish i had grabbed more but glad I found a few personal keys. Of course not much nostalgia on the CPV's for me given I did not grow up in Canada.
