So, who’s going to the show? -
Each of the original Xmen characters you mentioned in the Claremont/Byrne storyline had to go through a major revamp in order to be relevant. The one exception being Cyclops.

All things being equal, I would buy 100 copies of ASM 1 before I’d even consider x-men 1. The characters in Xmen 1 (except magneto, and Cyclops to a lesser extent) don’t resonate with me…no Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Kitty, etc who were the main characters during the Xmen’s heyday for most collectors. folks can point to this years price guide and note the price increase on Xmen 1 all they want, but that’s based on speculation the Xmen will become part of the MCU and if and when it does, the value of Xmen 1 will halt to a crawl, much like B&B 28 and Avengers 1 have done after their movies were released. as for ASM 1, it’s only a matter of time before folks wake up and realize it’s significance once again. prices will continue to increase, but at a more profound pace than we’ve seen over the past 7 or 8 years.

Does SDCC live up to the hype and price point?

Never been, no desire to go. In addition to the cost, the amount of planning required to make it worthwhile is far too much of a premium to pay -
7.5, 8.5, 9.0 (3), 9.2, 9.4 (4), 9.6 (5), 9.8 (3)

Most books are signed by John and Gerry, with Stan also on a few copies

After completing my 1st run of ASM, I thought to myself "what next"? I was still interested in collecting comics and I had the funds, l had several comic stores within a short drive from my home, and several local conventions throughout the year. But I wasn't really interested in anything other than Spidey. Oh, sure, I tried my hand at some Byrne Xmen, Adams and Rogers Tec, but it was futile, because I was always drawn back to Spidey. So, I started a second run of ASM, then a third, and a fourth, and ultimately, I focused on acquiring just ASM keys. Never got bored with it until i switched focus to collecting original comic art.

I don’t recall what it went for, but it must have sold on clink as I can’t find any sales data on it. I really like this tri-signed copy, but I’m presently pursuing other things, and I’ve never been one to chase after newsstand editions. However, an asm 238 CPV in 9.8 is a different story, and I would definitely chase that book.

Thanks for the additional information regarding the printings. I wasn't aware of the 3rd-5th printings. Are there any distinguishing markings on the covers to identify 3rd, 4th, and 5th printings?
