  1. I have never bought a comic that is untouchable or not available. The most expensive comic I ever bought was IH 181 about 15 years ago for $380.
  2. They are still just reprints of comics in a collected format. I really don’t care what edition it is the cheaper the better. If there is three printings and it’s still has the same page and cover quality and size than I will go with the cheapest. There is a market for trades 1st prints but it’s not as big as many would think. Even OP books can and will likely be reprinted.
  3. I am looking forward to the new series, hopefully Marvel can dona good job. I would love to see a weekly tv show done of it, that would be awesome.
  4. I liked the original Deadpool series and I liked the first 10 issues of the new run however I think Marvel made me sick of the character.....overkill. I didn't really like the movie, again I think that Marvel made me sick of him.
  5. I stopped buying comics maybe 10 years ago. In the past few months I got the itch to collect again I was blown away by how much prices have jumped. Even crappy books that were once available everywhere and couldn’t sell is now jumped sometimes 20 times or more the price 10 years ago. I haven’t bought any I have since decided not to collect it’s not worth it as all these will drop and be easily available again in a few years. This trend won’t continue.
  6. The card hobby have moved to high end products. It isn’t a kid hobby anymore and the cards aren’t like the old stuff. Packs with four cards in it sell for $600, yes you can still get $5-10 packs but the $600 ones sell out. Cards of guys like Lebron, Sidney Crosby and whoever is the new hot baseball player can easily sell for $15,000 - $60,000. Old vintage cards that are professionally graded and in high grade are selling for millions. Look up the PSA 10 Wayne Gretzky rookie and now this week a Mickey Mantle rookie. Also go on eBay and look up a Lebron exquisite rookie card and Sidney Crosby and Mcdavid cup rookies. The hobby also have gone to epscks where you can buy packs of your favorite sets and open them online. You can redeem the cards you want. The card hobby is different but still healthy. The
  7. That is one of the coolest covers I have seen in a while. I love all the old Gold Key covers, fantastic. Thanks for showing it.
  8. Comics are still selling for ridiculous prices. If the boomers are selling off then the market is still not flooded to the point that the supply exceeds demand. I would love to see comic prices drop and for there to be a sudden flooding of the market. I collect to read and on a low budget so nothing would make me happier then to see the comic market drop. Maybe then I could own some cool older books with out breaking the bank.
  9. Best score was back in the mid 90's, I went to a flea market and bought a pile of FF from 48-60 for $5 a pop and Tomb of Dracula 1-20 for $25. At the same market I past on an Uncanny X-men for $150 as I thought it was crazy money for a comic....yikes!! In 1992 I also bought a ASM 129 and IH 181 for $120 total, great deal today, $120 seemed like a lot of money back then esp for a university student. My biggest regret was selling off 90% of my collection around 15 years ago, I missed the big price jump in the industry. I had some silver and most all bronze and copper age keys and a near complete run of ASM 100-400. I would love to have my collection back just for reading, I will never be able to purchase them back as comic prices have gone crazy.
  10. Joe Kubert I also like Romita jr. so many great ones out there Adams, Frazetta, Kirby etc.....totally would depend on the comic genre.
  11. I joined in 2005 and would visit here at least 5 times a day and my post count is still just 4211. Comix4fun joined in 2002 and has a post count of 40,3018. Roy Vintagecomics joined in 2004 and has a count post of 89,027. My question is what the heck do you post about to get this many post. They must respond to even their own post WOW!!!
  12. For years members posted as much as possible to boost their post counts. It was a big competition for a lot of members, it seems a lot of those people have moved on. There was threads actually started just to boast their numbers. Lots of those threads were not productive but sometimes fun to read. For a comic site their isn't much discussion on comic art and stories. Most seem to be about covers, slabs and investment or rarity of books. In the Gold/Silver/Bronze/Copper sections half the threads are 100 pages of the exact same comic XXXXX Club. I do enjoy watching the new additions threads and reading post discussion older comics that I didn't read or own but I am not a fan of those club threads. I think a lot of members didn't like the new site and grew bored with the same old conversations.
  13. I think there are a few factors with two being how expensive comics have gotten and the new site. I stopped buying a few years ago due to the price of back issues. I think the prices have jumped way to high for the supply and demand. When I stopped buying I stopped talking, I still occasionally visit and read but don't usually contribute. Since the site change I don't visit as much. I am not a fan of the new site layout, I use to visit here maybe 5 times a day now it's more like every five days between visits. That's just my opinion.
  14. I think it's a better time to sell than buy, older comics are still climbing and selling for ridiculous prices. There are comics that are selling for crazy prices that have lots available to buy. The movies brought in some collectors but it also got some of the old collectors to hold on to theirs and to start buying up every first appearance and key out there. It isn't a good time to be buying keys. I think in the next 5 or so years all these minor keys and first appearances that skyrocket will drop and become ready available as they were for many years. The real keys and scarce issues will hold their value but the minor junk that jumped will drop. Hobby collecting is all about cycles, remember the 90's and all the valiant stuff, speculation of low print runs drove prices sky high, now they are available for pennies on the dollar compared to the early 90's. The true Valiant keys are still somewhat popular and sell if the price is right.
  15. The only run I ever finished was the Jonah Hex run 1-92, WWT and Allstar Westerns. I was close to the Conan the Barbarian series but was around 30 away. If I had to pick one that I would live to have would be the Amazing Spider-Man run.
  16. Only read his run on DD and Captain America. I have read both at least five times, I loved them both. I may try some of the books recommended in this thread.
  17. Like most companies they will see their mistake and return to their roots. if trying to attract new Young readers and capitalize on the TV show they could have added the new titles while still producing the old titles that 90% off their customer base purchases.
  18. Walk in with what you want to spend and start plucking all the good pieces that are priced right.
  19. I agree that the key books will hold value but I don't see all these minor and obscure 1st appearance comics holding value. There is way too many of them printed for the supply and demand to hold up. Even keys like the first DeadPool, there must be a couple hundred thousand of them printed how are they still climbing in value?
  20. I haven't collected comics in a few years. Too be honest when all the prices skyrocketed I lost interest. The prices jumped way to high for the quality of work especially knowing how available these were at such affordable prices. I get the whole supply and demand but this was just people buying up piles of books to sit on, not my thing and certainly not paying 5-10X what a book should sell for just because someone else is driving the price up on speculation of TV and Movies. So my goal for 2018 is to hopefully start picking up a few comics and to try and get back the love for the hobby.
  21. As a life long Archie reader I must admit that I love the Riverdale show, every week we sit as a family and watch it. It is the first time in the 25 years I have been with my wife that she showed any interest, my 16 year old son also loves the show. It did take me a few episodes to get into the changes but now I enjoy it. I like when tv shows and movies don't go strictly by the comics, it bores me when they do. I tried the new Riverdale comic and didn't enjoy it. I continue to buy older digest and some new ones that are like the good old archie books. I also continue to collect old back issues from the main titles, there is more than enough to keep me collecting until the day I die lol.
