  1. Same here. I'm gonna read Watchmen first and then probably read Doomsday Clock once the entire run is completed.
  2. Not quite the same case with Nick Fury. Ultimate (Samuel L. Jackson) Nick Fury preceded the MCU. The story I heard was that Marvel asked if they could model the character after Sam and he agreed as long as he got to play the character in any movies. A better analogy would have been Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok who got her own version of the character in the comics as a result of the success of the movie.
  3. What happens if someone buys one, files a claim with eBay for fraudulent item, and then leaves a negative feedback? Are eBay's terms friendly enough towards buyers that one could do that while simultaneously dinging the seller? Also, what of tonfulle's activity recently? Has one dropped while the other has increased? Or is someone dual accounting?
  4. I know results may vary, but for what it's worth, I submitted via CCS fast track back in December. FT was slated at 20 business days, but my books spent only 11 business days at CCS. Maybe regular modern will go through in less than the posted 56 day estimate. Or maybe I got lucky since December/January was relatively quiet as far as cons go. You can also refer to this thread for slightly more updated turnaround times.
  5. I sent this book out in July to get signed at SDCC and just got it back today. This was the first batch of books I sent out and I've learned A LOT since then. In fact, when I found out the book was still being held, I nearly called up the facilitator to ask if I could cancel and get a refund, but that hardly seemed fair so I let it go. Needless to say, the book came back as I expected and I will always carry the shame of wasting money subbing a less than minty fresh modern book. But I guess that's how you learn. But, on the flipside, it's the only 6.0 s/s copy of ASM#299 on census which should qualify me for the ONE-OF-A-KIND CGC SS thread right?
  6. Print run and value are (should be) completely irrelevant when it comes to determining the 1st appearance because they have zero impact on the story. That's all that should matter: the art, the words, and the story.
  7. Whoever said they asked Snyder and he remarked Metal #2 should send that convo to DC and Snyder for confirmation and cc CGC. Problem solved.
  8. I went with a Billy. You can even buy a variety of doors depending on lighting/location. I went with glass doors because it's in a room with shades that are shut 24/7 and away from direct sunlight. If you're concerned about lighting, then you can go with a "wood" panel door so prevent light from getting in. Rough estimate, I can get about 250 books/shelf. Standard Billy has 6 shelves, but you can add a 7th if need be. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00263850/#/40263848 Also, for those Graded Book Pods, can the glass be removed and then taken to a framer and fitted with museum glass? I guess I just feel more comfortable getting the real deal instead of a UV protector sheet. (Side note: do they sell those protector sheets individually? And how well do they work? It seems like a good thing to buy for CGC cases if they work. Might as well go UV protector sheet + Museum glass for max UV protection.)
  9. The term is "embossed" where the art is basically raised from the natural paper state. But hey, at least if you have a 9.8 copy of this book you know it hasn't been pressed since the act of pressing would flatten the cover. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paper_embossing
  10. I think the moral is to do proper research on the value of a book before buying. You're really taking a chance buying raw books on eBay so I would steer clear of that unless you're only interested in a beater/reader copy, or don't intend to have the book graded and sold at a later date. But I'd like to think that i've found some decent deals on eBay. The truth is, I've found slabs advertised on these forums for the same or more what I've found on eBay. Or alternatively, buy on ComicLink or some other reputable online dealer but just make sure you shop around and research historical prices. Also, everyone quotes GPA prices, but never take into account that GPA includes eBay's 10% fees. Ideally you would think people would sell for 5% below GPA on the boards so both the buyer and seller walk away happy feeling like they got a good deal by not selling/buying on eBay.
  11. In all seriousness, it's supposed to be a tombstone (regular cover below). I think the cover would have looked better with Spider-Man standing over a tombstone with the name hidden in shade. But this was the '90s so every milestone had to have some special cover.
  12. Yeah, I had to go through and use the process of elimination just to be sure. But it is a cameo after all so it's meant to be a little unclear.
  13. The same argument could be made for Amazing Spider-Man #299 vs #300. I think one appearance in a frame constitutes a cameo. This is partially the case with Metal #2, however in ASM #299 and IH #180, the appearance occurs on the last frame/page. In Metal #2, his full appearance occurs on one of the final 5 pages and the rest of the frames have him giving a speech, which in my opinion constitutes a first full appearance. This with the aforementioned fact that the story precedes Teen Titans #12 means Metal #2 has my vote. I think grading community could help the cause by correctly listing books on eBay or wherever with Metal #2 as the first appearance. Or maybe just write to CGC and have them officially weigh in on it providing evidence with Snyder's remarks.
  14. Front row (L to R): The Batman Who Laughs, The Dawnbreaker, The Murder Machine, The Drowned, The Merciless, The Red Death Middle row: The Devastator Back row: Barbatos
  15. Does this minicomic cover from the one of the DKIII: Master Race issues count? I feel like Frank Miller has basically become the Van Gogh of comics. There's no proportions, scale, and a whole lot of random lines. It's all rather impressionistic. That being said, I felt the writing of the minicomics were way stronger than the main series itself.
  16. Great job selecting matte colors that match the books as well.
  17. Is it me or is ArtGerm's style looking more and more like wax figures?
  18. Translation: "I went into his wallet, took his credit card, and spent $500 to maximize the $100 discount. Happy Wife. Happy Life."
  19. Woot. Just secured mine as well. Didn't get quite as good a deal as you ($366), but I honestly can't complain about the $20 now can I. Also bought a set of Mylites2 and Fullbacks so I can start better preserving some of my minor keys.
  20. It's called getting your book "Reholdered". You send the book in the slab and CGC replaces the cracked slab with a new one. Your book will retain the same grade unless the crack/damage is significant enough that it might warrant a re-grade. It's important that the book stays in the slab and that you don't try to remove it. As soon as you remove the book from the outer shell, it loses its grade, which would be especially bad on a Signature Series book. https://www.cgccomics.com/signature-series/
