  1. At least with a credit card purchase, he can file a fraud claim and get his money back. He'll just have to close out his credit card as well. But I really wanna see what's in this box. I'm guessing it's a New Amazing Spider-Man slabbed by New CGC.
  2. Bummed that there weren't any significant consequences?
  3. This just seems incredibly immoral. I understand if you want to put a limited amount of stock online and sell the rest at a show. But to have the books trickle out to increase its after market value is kinda disgusting. I'm disappointed in Midtown. At this point, they might as well just create an anonymous eBay handle and start selling them on the bay for even more.
  4. I agree that the seller bears the burden of the most blame. As a seller, I would most definitely be concerned the package would get damaged or not make it to its final destination. I don't fully understand the USPS policy, but I know enough that in such a situation, the seller is on the hook. I would 100% get priority 2-3 day shipping, insurance and signature on that puppy because until it's physically in the buyers hand, i'm on the hook. Heck, I just insured a group of books for $125 (when standard insurance only covered $50). Lastly, what happens if the buyer just takes the book and claims it never arrived. Seems like the seller would be hosed at that point. That being said, I also agree that the buyer bears some of the burden for not sorting out shipping prior to payment. I get that you're trying to maintain a pristine eBay rating and want to issue a timely payment to keep the seller happy, but if you're spending THAT much money, your rating should be secondary and ensuring your purchase is protected should be tantamount.
  5. I got it, read it, and actually enjoyed it. Jason Aaron has my vote of confidence after what he's done with Thor of late. And I've always enjoyed the slightly cartoonish nature of Ed McGuinness' art. I kept reading the lines from the big 3 (Cap/Tony/Thor) in their MCU counterparts voices which just goes to show how perfectly suited those actors have filled their respective roles. I'm glad they're finally touching up on the 1,000,000 BC Avengers story and am interested to see where the story goes from here.
  6. Alright, a little bit of a story time here. Infinity War opening weekend, I go over to my buddy's place to answer questions he and his dad have about the movie (me being the most avid comic book reader of the group). My buddy has previously told me about how his dad has Silver Surfer #1. Of course I'm skeptical, for all I know, they could be referring to vol. 3, issue 1. Anyways, the conversation flips from the movie to the comic books and his dad starts to get curious about what he has. So I offer to take a look and tell them what's what. The books are stored in a closet, bagged, boarded, and boxed. His dad pulls the short box on top (there's a few long boxes in there as well) and I start to take a look. Immediately I notice a few books in mylar so I flip to those first. The first book I see...Silver Surfer #4 (my best guess as a n00b collector, it looks like 9.0, no joke, looks unopened, no color breaks on the spine). I flip through some more and there's an Iron Man #55. (I would later find the SS#1 and an IM#1). Apparently in the late '80s, he bought these books at a comic show and figured they might be worth hanging onto as investments. Anyways, fast forward and I decided to look through my dad's own collection to see what he had. Many years ago, before I could even call myself a collector (I was really more interested in the art/stories than complete runs), I had bagged/boarded my dad's books for the sake of protecting them. At the time I knew nothing about silver age books (still don't as a matter of fact). But spending time on these boards, I have come to at least identify some keys. So what follows is what was in my dad's short box. (apologies for the pictures, I didn't want to take the books out of the bags. Wrinkles are on the bags, not the books. I'm gonna have to remove them eventually and put them in mylar.) The Standouts My dad has always been a big Batman fan, so I wasn't surprised to find maybe 1/3 of the box was Batman, Detective Comics, The Brave and the Bold, and other assorted Batman team-up books. I was surprised to find these however. Strange Adventures because it was the only issue of that title so it's not like it was a book he looked for every month. I spoke to him and he said the cover art and text caught his attention. Also that it was a new character he had never seen before so he figured he would get it. The Thor was even more of a surprising find because it's safe to say he was more of a DC fanboy. The irony is I had actually been looking to buy a copy of this book (and FF66). The Unexpected Alright, all books were a surprise to find, but this was the most surprising, mainly because I had never even heard of the series. (apologies for the photo. I swear I took an HD copy, but the forums want to shrink it down. War Stories 1/3 of the box may have been Batman, but another 1/3 was War stories. I was looking at the covers when I suddenly realized they were Joe Kubert covers. I may not know much about what's inside, but it's cool to now say I have some Joe Kubert covers in my collection. The Fakeout As I was sifting through books, I came across Star Wars #8. And then a #7. And then a #6...#5... I started to think to myself, "wait a minute, did he collect the original Star Wars issues?" #1 was one of the last books in the box. I started to get excited only to have my hopes and dreams deflated. "Why is there no barcode", I thought to myself. A quick Google search revealed that what he had weren't 1st prints, but were instead 2nd prints (as were the first 4 issues, the rest were 1st prints). But still, fun to have none-the-less. There were other books in the box as well. A variety of Golden Key books (Star Trek, Mission. Impossible, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., etc) and some Dell titles. Most of the books are hardly worth anything from a monetary standpoint, but it's fun to think about my dad as a kid going to the corner store and buying some books for $0.10, $0.12, or $0.15. My dad later asked me how much comics are these days. He balked when I told him $3.99. Final thought, I always figure SA books are expensive, but I might have to fill in the gaps on some of these collections. Maybe this will be what converts me.
  7. I can't speak to the page quality, I suspect that some collectors on here will settle for nothing less than White pages on Modern/Copper books. Regarding the Stan Lee Exclusive label, however, that is something CGC offers. Last I checked, it was an extra $5 for the label. It does nothing to the value of the book. Regarding the last bit, are they compensating you on any fees? Shipping, grading, etc? If you were to resub the books I figure the cost is about $20 shipping to a new facilitator, $30 in wasted grading fees, and another $30 to have the books shipped back. Effectively that's an extra $80 for one book (the amount for the 2nd book would decrease due to the shared shipping rates).
  8. Shady of Midtown. I wasn't planning on buying any, but I just bought 2. Hopefully the price doesn't fall off a cliff otherwise I just wasted $160.
  9. Argh. I forgot about the release of ASM #800 today. Did anyone pick up a copy for themselves? It looks like copy A sold out unless you buy a set. Now I'm left with a difficult decision.
  10. You're not gonna open it to make sure the contents are the same as well? Can never be too careful.
  11. In all fairness, he'd probably call any human the same thing as they're all beneath him. Most casual audience members most likely have no idea what the post credit scene was referring to. Hence why most people were probably underwhelmed.
  12. Do we have any idea what other movies studios are putting out next May? What are the chances the movie gets bumped up a week again in order to reduce competition and maximize earnings?
  13. No. They have one shot comics that come out right before the films do and act as a sort of prelude, but there is no consistent line of comics that continues to tell stories that are canon for the MCU.
  14. Ayesha clearly states something along the lines of "I shall call him...Adam" implying that he is just created.
  15. When the True Believers first came out, I kinda scoffed like "why would I want a reprint. I'd rather have the original." But now I view those True Believers as reader copies (ASM300) or the closest I'll get to owning a grail (IH181). And who can argue with a $1 book.
  16. I feel like the clerk could have been a little clearer. C'mon, 10 years in and you haven't developed a way to express to new customers that the movies are based on the books but not direct adaptations? The clerk easily could have explained that the movie was partially inspired by Infinity Gauntlet, but is not a direct book to movie adaptation.
  17. That sounds absurd. How was the store not completely wiped clean by the end of the day?
  18. I'm not a James Cameron fan and I don't care much for Titanic and Avatar (which I felt was a rip off of Disney's Pocahontas). I feel like he's got a big head simply because he has two of the top grossing films of all time. He's been working on an Avatar sequel in some capacity for what, a decade now? I just don't see him being in a position to be making threats. (I mean, yes, Disney has A LOT riding on those Avatar sequels, but still.)
  19. This is exactly how I feel about there being two FF48 threads in the Silver Age sub-forum. Especially when one was created in November 15, 2014 and the other was April 3, 2018.
  20. 1) Part 2 comes out May 2019 (unless they bump it up a week again). And yes, it's only 2 parts. 2) No clue, that is one theory. 3) 4) If you did, so did I. I saw the movie twice and I'm 99% sure there was no reference to Silver Surfer either explicitly or as an Easter Egg in the background.
  21. Here's my haul from the $0.25 bin at my LCS on FCBD. With the recent chatter about a possible movie based on the Eternals, I thought I would snag these. I mean, it's Neil Gaiman. Seemed like a good deal to me @ $1.75. Last FCBD I bought up a small handful of Captain America books in the lead up to Secret Empire. I hate having holes in my runs so I figured I might as well try to fill the gaps since the books were so cheap. My dad was a big Batman fan growing up. So when I got into comics, he naturally guided me towards Batman books. I firmly remember having a handful of LotDK books so when I saw so many of these arcs sitting in the $0.25 bin, I decided to snag them up. "Gothic" in particular was one of the first books I remember buying as a kid. Now I've got so many, I might try to get a complete run from 1-50. Final note on $0.25 bins...it is soooooo depressing flipping through the books and then coming across modern books that you subbed and paid full price on. I saw so many copies of Action Comics: The Oz Effect in the boxes, both standard and lenticular variants. I also saw almost a full run of Loeb's Batman/Superman with most issues from 1-20. Also, for anyone who brings their own short/long boxes and fills them up, what do you look for? I mean, quite a few people went home with a stocked short box of reading material (or perhaps books to re-sell?)
  22. Mr. Campbell is just providing a service to us and our LCS'. By limiting the number of sets for sale he is saying "look, now the rest of you have more money for FCBD. go forth and support your LCS."
