Goal is to stick with the grand plan in achieving a high grade ASM 14 without continually getting sidetracked with other temptations. This year is getting less & less likely for that to happen. Whenever or if ever this happens I'll have a comic-gazm!!!

.....so, if you saw 2 identical books for sale, same grade, same eye appeal, same price, but one was pressed and the other not pressed (with disclosure), which book would be more desirable to a collector?
If they were both in a slab & had a blue label it wouldn't matter. If raw then the non pressed

A raw ASM 332 signed by Stan for the low low price of 800 buckaroos!!! Nevermind that the cover features a character he had no involvement in!

I hired Jim Mortensen in 1995 fresh out of Northwestern to head the marketing efforts of the then 21-store Moondog's chain. When the industry collapsed (along with Moondog's) in 1996 Jim opened Comix Revolution in an old Moondog's location in Mt. Prospect, IL. He opened his second location in Evanston soon after.
That's over 20 years ago.
In all those years Jim didn't sell any vintage comics. He just didn't want to invest all the time and effort necessary to learn about old comic books when it was the art form, and the creators of today, that were his main interests. So no back issues. They just didn't fit in with his marketing plans and his idea of what a comic book shop should be.
That's where I come in. About 5 years ago I convinced Jim to let me be his buyer of vintage comics. After all there were tons of old Moondog's customers still in the area and they may want to sell their collections and who better to buy them than the guy who sold them?!
So for 5 years I've been buying old comics in the Mt. Prospect location and every so often filling a few requests. Enter Pete Przysiezny of Comics4Less. The national comic book selling powerhouse. I flip a lot of quality material to Pete and he keeps asking where it's coming from. I tell him Comix Revolution in Mt. Prospect - I'm their buyer of vintage comics. He suggests a meeting with Jim to discuss SELLING old comics at the shop! Whoa! So the three of us get together and lo and behold, Comix Revolution at 115 W. Central Rd. now has one of the best back issue selections in Chicago.
We're just getting started. Pete brought in 25 boxes of quality SA and BA and a smattering of some nice moderns. I added a few things myself. $2 and $5 and $10 books. Tons at over half Overstreet. No kidding. With more to come.
Oh, and you get a bonus too. I'll be hanging out at the shop more often. If you have quality material to sell call me at 847.707.7092 or email me at moondog100@comcast.net. We'll also be filling want lists too.
Do you buy slabed or just raw books?

It should be noted that the summit of Mount St. Helens became considerably lower after the eruption.

I expect it's just a matter of time. Now the real question is if they could cast it to live up to high expectations.
It would be interesting to see how they'd create Wendigo!

It matters to other folks too.
If the economy isn't doing well people tend to hold on to their cash due to all of the uncertainty that comes along with it.
Especially when it comes to job security. During a bear market typically a lot of folks have lost their jobs or don't know if they will have a job the next day. That worry alone is a big reason to hold onto cash to spend on necessities only.
And if I recall correctly, during the last bear market we had, a lot of folks were selling their collections for cash. Cash needed to pay their bills.
Why wasn't there a whole sale valuation drop from '07 to around '10? There was talk of massive bank runs in 08. Why no drop in 08 09? This correlation claim is dubious.

I think there is a correlation. If you feel flush with money, you don't mind spending more. If the market is tanking, you may keep it close to the vest and limit your purchases. I am retired and my 'income' is directly taken out of my stock market holdings. It matters to me.
Ok with the exception of you. I would imagine most comic collectors are not retired folk depending on stocks (which just had a market correction BTW) & a 401k.

Not surprising this book is doing so well with comics prices in general on the upswing in correlation with the economy and the stock market.
In retrospect (it appears to me), the last time U.S. suffered through a bear market, Hulk 181 prices slowed down and prices were depressed for awhile.
As long as the economy remains strong, what could possibly derail this book?
You really think there's a correlation? You really think someone willing to spend 1000 dollars on a comic book is going to be swayed by stock market performance?
The economy started to tank in 2007 comic values at least for major titles didn't start to decrease til maybe ~2011 or so. They remained high even in 08, 09 when things were totally off a cliff! Personally I think the general economy or stock market have very little impact on the hobby. The collecting population is too small to be affected by macro trends.
Hugh Jackman in "Logan" & the fox Disney deal probably has a ton more to do with it than anything else

Agreed. In real estate it's location, location and location.
With comic books it's demand, demand and demand.
If they ever put hulk v wolverine on the big screen this thing will be the Mount St. Helens of comic books!!!???

I’ve tried to deal with him many many times but I haven’t bought anything from him.
His prices are too high for my blood but he does have some great books.
Always replies to my offers but doesn’t really budge on price.
Side Note: Dealing with him has taught me the ever important lesson of patience and don’t impulse buy.
In any case he seems like a stand up guy (Timely replies and solid feedback).
.02 in the bucket...
He has like 3 copies of ASM #1 (GRR) CGC in high grade. There's only 16 in the census. How the hell does that happen?

What do the staples look like now? Did the buyer provide pictures of the left side?

It's my only copy, I never got one until now because I knew I wanted it in VF and settled for F/VF. I actually did a power point presentation on this book for my art appreciation class in college because it's the X-Men that I know and am familiar with I tried getting 2 X-Men 94s but without wolvie on the cover, I was missing something
To say this I appreciate this book is an understatement
Yeah I always wondered why 94 commanded more value? Is it because it was the first new x-men logo? VF would be an 8 to 8.5 in CGC terms? Oops never mind it wasn't the first new logo.

Mainly the clarity of the mylar. Also the seal but I think there are resealable poly bags as well.
