  1. Finally got around to listening to your interviews with Jay Maybruck. My wife came down at 5:30 a.m. and wanted to know why I wasn't in bed yet. Actually she kinda yelled at me. Thanks for nothing! Still have most of part 3 and all of part 4 to go. Fascinating interview I just can't stop listening. It sounds like Jay made a lot of mistakes and has spent a lifetime regretting his actions. I think CZ is of great importance to the comic collecting community and in the future it will become a treasure trove of comic collecting history. Just the Maybruck interviews alone contain oodles of interesting tidbits.
  2. Very nice books, if they were low grade they would be Bronze.
  3. I'm still wondering how in the heck Cap through his shield like that. You wouldn't think Cap could get a lot of mustard using that frisby grip. I guess that's why he is a super hero and I toss wobblers at the beach. Pretty FF48.
  4. I had this one in my collection for a while but I was waiting to read it until I had finished my run of 200 to 300. I read it last night and I must say I actually shed a tear. This is a touching story to say the least - very good story telling. Point Five had asked the question 'Top Five Stories', thats why I included issue 248. Issue 248 had one of the great Spidey stories of all time. It didn't introduce an earth shaking villian or change the direction of Spiderman's life, it just made us tough, uber macho comic collectors shed a tear. Big cry baby Fedoraman. Just kidding mate.
  5. Where did you pick up that sweet copy of #6? Never considered #40 to be a let down. #39 and #40 were pretty cool stories.
  6. Top 5 Spidey stories! In order of preference. 1. Amazing Spiderman #30-33 -- Great stories and classic cover of #33. Ditko was never better 2. Amazing Spiderman #121-122 -- Killing Gwen for good. No imaginary story, no bringing her back a year later. How many readers were shocked by this story? 3. Amazing Fantasy 15--pretty well written story and without it we would never have read the rest. 4. Amazing Spiderman #298-300--Was there ever a scarier villian than Venom? 5. Amazing Spiderman #248--The Kid Who Collects Spiderman. Touching story of a Spiderfan like us. So many great Spiderman stories. Wanted to include AS#5, 50-51 but top five is a small list. ________________________
  7. Dude, I can't believe you said that. It would be my pleasure to show any board member a little Northern hospitality, especially you! I second the motion. Any board member forced to visit our city will be welcomed with open arms. May even show you the world's biggest shopping mall. As a bonus, if you come in the winter and brave our lovely subzero weather we will go skiing to Banff or Jasper. World famous national parks and pretty good ski mountains.
  8. Yep, Piper and I will meet you and take you out for dinner. Perhaps trade some comics. Our winters are freezing cold but our summers are pretty nice, both weeks of it.
  9. Nice to see such a nice set in my home town!! I have a very nice #4 but can't see selling it. Had it for 20 plus years. By my count, there are four Edmontonians on the boards. Yes, Mel (Silvermine) is on here but mostly to promote his Ebay auctions. I've never met a nicer guy. Apparently he sold most of his stock to Wizards and it will soon appear on their walls. Who is the fourth?
  10. Kirby was truly at his peak. I wish I could afford a Kirby original FF page although I have a Forever People original page. Its beautiful ...sigh. After years of drawing comics I think Kirby instinctively knew how to draw a panel that jumped out at you. He was also a master at perspective. I love the way Kirby draws the team, the Thing straddling the rocks, Mr Fantastic stretched out and The Invisible Woman dangling at the bottom. The Human Torch's flame and team vertically drawn draw the eyes downward into the cavern. I think Kirby must have loved The Human Torch. His flame trail really draws the eye.
  11. Greatest run in comics! And not just read, stare in wonder at the brilliant art.
  12. Nice to see such a nice set in my home town!! I have a very nice #4 but can't see selling it. Had it for 20 plus years.
  13. :hail: Awesome. Hulk #1 coming back higher than you expected. What a cool result. Congrats.
  14. Just received my second batch of books from Heroes Haven. I'm am a Silver collector and wanted to pick up some Copper comics cheap to read and perhaps some day they might be worth something. All 13 books appear to be unread mint gems for about $2 per book. The rat sent them a day later than promised so he tossed in 4 more mint unread rotten old late 70's Marvel mainline hero books and a Batman of similar ilk. All bagged and boarded, packed in a box with popcorn. If you want Copper classics buy from this guy. Good bye Ebay!! Tossed in comics were Avengers 160, Marvel Teamup 58, Iron Man 99, DareDevil 143 and Batman Annual 8. I'm in love. I actually like the tossed in books better than the comics I paid for. 2 of the books I purchased off him I bought at a LCS for $10 each by mistake. Xmen 153, 154. Guess I will take em back.
  15. That is always the problem. Can't afford the big books because I keep buying zillions of little guys. I'm an addict and I can't hold off for the big books, sniff.
  16. Very nice books, beautiful copy of issue 19
  17. Why is does this book have the "i" dotted in blue? BTW I consider this book a top 10 historical book due to it being the first superhero crossover where the heroes fight each other. (And not due to being mind controlled or some trick like that) This was a 1960's marvel staple that continues to this day in all superhero lines. Well there was the Sub-Mariner in FF 4. He was a GA superhero right? Issue 12 was the first Marvel crossover of a new Marvel character. Marvel was a master at crossing new characters into established titles all through the sixties. The Sub-Mariner was certainly introduced as a villian in FF4 but when you think about the qualities of a hero I think you could argue he was very much a hero. Defending his race against the evil surface dwellers. I'm not sure I would agree that FF12 is a top 10 Marvel historic book, no new characters introduced, not sure the first crossover of a new character is that important, but certainly one of my favorite books, great cover and story. FF1,2,4,5,6,48, AF1, Spidey 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,9,14,50, Hulk1, JIM83, Avengers 1,4, DD1, TOS39 plus others would rank higher in my importance list.
  18. One of my favorite late Silver age covers, striking. Nice pick ups. thx bro! it was a tough find for me...and the FF#65. Picked up the cap 107 twenty years ago when it was cheap. The cover is so freaking beautiful. Probably my favorite late Silver cover. The FF65 is a great issue also. Nice pickups.
  19. One of my favorite late Silver age covers, striking. Nice pick ups.
