  1. I wish it didn't but it seems to have an effect on me and I think it has an effect on the majority of bidders/buyers. Anything that generates buzz or excitement around a sale will give it an edge.
  2. FYI, the hotel advised me to take Bus 163 to Blvd and Williams from NY Port Authority. Then, it's about a 10 minute walk.
  3. Wonder Woman 187. Lois Lane interviews Diana and is there when she sings starving children to their final rest. End of Preacher was very emotional for me. Strangers in Paradise. I Dream of You, ending... just pick a random spot and get tissue. Locke and Key ending gets me too with the ghost on the back of the motorcycle. <fans eyes to keep makeup from running>
  4. Love it! And always thought it was interesting they didn't push the Dali designs in the marketing.
  5. True that. But the more movie poster art people post, the more I see hand-painted lettering, etc. I'm not familiar enough with the history of movie poster illustration. Time to go read up!
  6. The one that still bothers me was a McKean Black Orchid French cover I lost on ebay back in the early 2000s. Thanks for dredging up the pain.
  7. My wife and I got to meet him at a convention in White Plains in the early 2000s. Just last week, we were telling a fellow collector about walking away from that meeting exclaming, "Wow! Berni Wrightson is just so... nice!" His Frankenstein cover poster hung in my room as a teenager and into college. So I brought it along to have him sign it that day. These prints from The Stand hang in our living room-- He is my wife's absolute favorite artist. His art and creativity was such a huge influence on us both. Our condolences go out to his family.
  8. Thought Factory poster redux? I thought I would cross-post this from a thread over at CAF- http://www.comicartfans.com/forums/comic_art_collecting/general_discussions/threads/413 Maybe someone here has more info on the art in question. As I mentioned, my guess is that they are digital fan art. Interesting exercise, nonetheless.
  9. Thanks! It really felt like Bendis and Gaydos were doing something new with the art form in that book. FYI, I think Gaydos's rep still has some nice pages from either the new series or old. Maybe have a look there.
  10. That's a drag. I always hate hearing stuff like that. I've often wondered if we shouldn't start a wiki somewhere with art that is confirmed destroyed.
  11. I think I posted these awhile back on another thread, but here are all of my Alias/Pulse pages. This was the book that kind of got my wife and I into Marvel in the early 2000s. We followed Bendis over from his indie work to this and loved it. The last image is her 1st app. The first page of the book was just her office door. Does anyone else remember that convention in the hallway at Madison Square Garden in 2003?
  12. Um, first appearance of Jessica Jones... send me your bids over $65K!
  13. What did that unpub Elektra go for in the NYCC charity auction? 12K? 15K? It was a nice piece and it went to a collector.
  14. I use the 18x24 Itoyas for DPS and similar medium-sized poster pieces. But I had Gerber custom cut half-backs to 18x24 to use as backing boards since there is a danger of handling damage with all of the flex. Last, I cut an extra piece of foamcore I had laying around to a larger width. I hang the whole folio on this. This is important if you aren't storing it flat because it eliminates that warp/roll you get from Itoyas that stand on their spine. This is a pretty good system. I have one of these I keep handy for recent acquisitions. I have a few more in storage that I wrapped in garbage bags to keep buggies out.
  15. So many nice pieces in the last few days! Who's the artist on MJ here?
  16. I think I might wander up there tomorrow or Saturday before they take it down.
  17. Society of Illustrators - Tony Harris I missed the notice for this- https://www.societyillustrators.org/exhibits/tony-harris Has anyone seen it?
  18. Zombie'ing my own thread, but I dug up this Flash page today and thought it had good ZIP... Mike Collins and Larry Mahlstedt
  19. Oleg's Mental Gear Shifts for Buying Things: 1. free con sketch (Oleg is old skool.) 2. Death of Wolverine Game Stop sketch cover 3. $65K aka all comic art. (Oleg doesn't know what blue lines are and doesn't care.) 4. Franzonis for Siberian log cabin mancave 5. monthly invoice from hackers 5. island (or peninsula) Anything more than island is probably "gift from cousin".
  20. I think it was just a case of "buy the best". It was the nicest of the batch (imo) AND it was a published cover. Covers always seem to get an illogical bump against comparative splashes. (And then I swoop in on said splash! lol) In person, it was very textured vs. the other pieces. A truly unique, beautiful example of modern Miller. I think in many ways, Miller is still trailblazing and showing how far comic art can go. I really liked it. If I played at that tier, I would have valued it in high 30Ks. But here's the real rub... if you want to jump the line and get the A+ pieces, you gotta pay that extra fixed price dealer/rep toll. Now, the next person that goes through that batch sees that red sticker and knows they were beat to the punch. (And I think anyone who thinks they are above all that needs to do some self-reflection.) I think there is also a class of art collector that likes putting money directly into an artist's hands and/or buying fresh off the drawing board. There is none of that "Oh, I had that piece back in the 2000s and traded it away." Nope, not in this case. You never had it and you never will. It's just another level of exclusivity. All that aside, a couple of those remaining Bats + Robin pieces are pretty iconic if you want a more recognizably DKR image.
  21. For some reason, I feel like a dealer or speculator will win this. I don't think it will end up in the hands of someone who loves the character/artist/issue.
