Yeah...it's funny that the cover of 1/72 mentions the Crumb connection, but not the Realist or actual title!

Saw your post in the UG thread first......I believe you are correct re:Adams unless you count the covers he did INSIDE the mags!!!! I think this was Wrightson's only front cover for NL, but it's actually pretty amusing when one realizes the rear cover of this was Frazetta!!!

You are correct, Sir. Was too lazy to pull out the 1/72 Is Nothing Sacred? issue when BONL3 was easily accessible from the book shelf!!! All here should also note the Neal Adams front cover on that tasty specimen, as well!

Actually it's much easier than the ways shown to identify the different versions of that Crumb covered copy of The Realist. The copy I own looks like this, and has the words "The Realist presents" at the top left of the cover, which the others pictured above do not! Looks like the issues pictured in that other photo with the Zaps are duplicates of the same version.

Not Mags, but certainly Mag related finds, found yesterday while scouring the thrift store. Bet they all came from the same person......never can pass them up when the opportunity arises, eh?

I have it. Sadly it has been rolled up in one of the many poster rolls of stuff I have accumulated over the years, and it might take me years to find it, as I never bothered to label the layers of posters I have stored in many tubes. It's literally a needle in a haystack until I get my paper plethora all sorted out. I also had the poster it was parodying which I always wanted to have framed together.....but that was so long ago.......almost 50 years now....

That one sold out almost immediately and had to be reprinted. I recall seeing the notification or the like in either the March 1973 or April 1973 issue. Not sure if there's a way to tell the difference in printings between the two but for a long time that was one of the hardest issues to find in the wild. I remember being worried that the lady at the register at the drug store I regularly bought my copies from wasn't going to sell it to me, because of that cover. I think this 12 year old genius also bought a couple of regular comic books to camouflage the real purchase......and whadayaknow, she didn't bat an eye, took my money and homeward bound to NatLamp heaven I was....... And yeah....that October 1972 issue was a mindblower from the git-go when I bought it! Loved the Neal Adams take on Dylan. Learned a lot from that issue!

One of my 3 most wanted issues of National Lampoon found yesterday in a local record store for a very nice price. Depending on who you go by, Mark's Very Large NL site or a site that shows all NL issues chronologically, this is either the second to last issue or the third. Either way, it's not seen in the 'wild' too often these days. Made up mostly of badly scanned reprint material, but scarce nevertheless! 2 to go.......

Speaking of signed FFFB bookplates, at a LCS nearby when you buy a copy of this: For a limited time (I guess until they run out.....), this is laid in:

But you can always protect the dust jacket and actually improve it's appearance by gingerly placing it in a Brodart protector. (it's usually the most valuable part of a first edition).One can still read the book just fine, but it looks oh so nice on the shelf. If you are really hardcore about protecting your fine first editions, clamshell boxes can be just the ticket! They can also be a work of art in and of themselves! There's lots one can do for excellent book protection without sacrificing access! I think slabbing is way too extreme, unless all you are really interested in is cover art. I figure if it comes down to it, I'd rather just invest in Krugerrands or the like. They present well and they only have fronts and backs!

Also Banshee Cries For Buffalo Meat, or whatever the exact title was, was certainly the inspiration for the 'Oscar Zeta Acosta/ Peter Boyle' material. I really enjoy Where The Buffalo Roam, but I think for all the wrong reasons!

It's the only book I have signed by HST, but I prefer Las Vegas. It's one of the only books I reread regularly and have since high school. I will say, though, that Campaign Trail '72 gave me an appreciation for our election system in a way Civics class did not. It's number two on my HST list, for sure!!!

Another reason to adore NL, Especially when Michael Gross took over the look of the mag from the stoners that were there the first few issues. One of my prize NL related possessions is this issue of Print Magazine from the mid-70's!

Very nice of you, but I had an UP Yourself Book and got rid of it. Hate that it has the NL logo even attached to it. The Canada Special is not really high on my list and is only something I'd care to score if it came across my path in some cheap dollar box or the like. I came across an unopened box of Sunday Parodies around a decade ago, and they sell very well still. Not as well as the Yearbook Parody, which usually doesn't last longer than a week when I get copies and catalog them, but it's a bit of ephemera people love to check out, if only for it's excellent design!

I'm just going to throw this out there......While my sisters were devotees of 16 and the Tiger, my monthly fix was of a slightly different bent.......
