  1. I guess the days of new Star Trek shows being on regular TV are over.
  2. I thought I was the only one who still did this. (It's also a good way to remove fingers that you don't really need...) Only two so far!
  3. You mean I wasn't supposed to incubate them in the oven? Dang it!
  4. An official notice by the USPS, explicitly stating comic books are not appropriate for media mail, is “utterly irrelevant” to whether comic books are appropriate for media mail? Uhhhh, ok...sure... So which do you believe, the DMM (USPS official as well, btw) or that link? Compound the clusterpoopy with the fact that your average USPS worker may not even have a clear understanding of it. I suppose you could say that the mere presence of ads (even decades out of date) eliminate comic books from MM. However, some postal employees will say that MM is fine for comics, some won't. Depends on who is working at any particular USPS branch on any given day. That's the real problem, ignorance of the rules and inconsistent enforcement which all leads to confusion and multiple threads about it on this board
  5. Other than the odd mail away item, those (above) are the ones I wanted but never got. I also would have loved to have bought these (below) On the other hand, I did have the Marx Navarone Giant Playset so i was a pretty happy kid. That set is long gone but oddly enough, I still have the two yellow cannons.
  6. I grab cardboard from work and use one of those old school guillotine paper cutters to cut them up. A couple years ago, they were replacing all the lighting fixtures in the office. Each fixture was packaged with a big flat piece of thick cardboard. The lighting guys were all too happy to let me take those. I got two comic sized pieces and two larger sized pieces from each panel.
  7. Do the artist editions have any ads in them? I would argue that AE's could be viewed as a type of educational/research material and if they have no ads then I don't see why they wouldn't be eligible for media mail. An AE certainly isn't a "comic book" in the conventional sense. Then again, I may be rationalizing and we are talking about the USPS here.
  8. I think bob was suspended for two weeks, as I recall, I think he can still post here? His comic book store wars project is very important, and he has material than cannot be replaced or duplicated in this 20+ year project, I hope that this gets published for all of fandom. Banned
  9. I'm one of his customers and I just love em. Where did you get a picture of Oakman?
  10. I love in the Southeastern US. Your observation gives me pause when I consider humid air forming inside the case, with no current to pull it out. Drill a small hole in each side of the case
  11. If it was a seal, there probably wasn't anything dry about it....I know how you get with sea creatures... Something fishy about me, no doubt
  12. I dry mounted with a seal once. You should have seen the mess.........oh wait, different topic. My bad
  13. My first couple dozen paninis came out really bad.....but I'm learning!!
  14. I read one back issue of CBM that was included with other magazines in a comic collection that I bought. It was the issue with the 50 most difficult Silver age books to acquire and their order of ranking according to the hobby giants of the day. Then I got a hold of another CBM that featured everything about Atlas horror. I was hooked. I kept seeking them out until I had a full set. I read the covers off of them, did a Pop Hollinger with most, taping and stapling as they accrue more wear and tear as reference material. If Gary is still active, he should pool all the issues into a CD, DVD, or whatever and sell them! It's an amazing assembly of knowledge, IMO, a hobby resource that's only equaled today by the cumulative knowledge of this forum. I found a couple threads about Gary Carter. The first one is older but contains more info.
  15. Damn. I wish I still had my copy of that book.
  16. I don't get the "preservation" aspect of grading either. Get some microchamber paper, some fullbacks, and some mylars. Same thing, but a lot cheaper, a lot less bulky, better clarity, and you can you still read the damn things. I slab books for sales facilitation only. That requires clarity and good presentation, just like you said.
  17. why bother submitting? Books in a mylar would serve the same purpose for you. We submit our books to get a 3rd party to grade that is accepted by both sides in a transaction. To have the end product look fantastic is required in this instance as comic collecting is inherently visual. Exactly. Mylar, acid free board and (most importantly) ideal storage conditions. Somehow the idea has propagated over the years that slabbing is superior for long term preservation.
  18. Is the phone any faster...or does it still take about 30 seconds between clicks around here. https://imgur.com/XlmIS6D It's that damned zlib compression
  19. Double tap with "chief" and "enjoy your day" might be too much. Just sayin'. HOMEBOY!!! You should have used this gif instead
