  1. I can no longer remember where and when I first saw many of the house ads that left me longing to get my hands on that particular issue. It could have been in my superhero comic buying/collecting days as a kid in 1962-65 or it could instead be in 1979-81 when I first started re-acquiring the treasures of my formative years. Some of those comics such as this one I still haven't managed to add to my collection:
  2. Here are the first appearances of Aquaman's four fiercest foes: Fisherman Ocean Master Black Manta Scavenger
  3. Four more of my Felix the Cat comics:
  4. I also have twenty of these wildly colourful Carnation Corn Flakes & Albers Oats Woody Woodpecker's Drawing Lessons cards from 1953-54: I have seventeen of the eighteen cards from the first series but only three of the eighteen cards from the second series. As you can see, the set includes plenty of redheads in addition to Woody!
  5. We're open minded to doggies from any era in this thread.
  6. Supergirl had a relationship with her steed that went well beyond that which is typical for the horsie set: You see Comet was born a handsome centaur named Biron who saved the goddess Circe from the evil machinations of the wizard Maldor. Circe rewarded him by granting his wish to become fully human. But Maldor switched potions turning Biron into a horse to whom Circe then gave super powers to compensate for the disaster. But Circe still eventually found a way to turn Biron fully human in which guise he romanced Supergirl. But being human caused some very serious problems so Circe turned him back into Comet the Super-Horse who would then dream of his romantic dalliances with Supergirl. But Comet would periodically revert to human form under the influence of a comet. So Supergirl had a boyfriend who was actually a horse. Yes, most women do like horses but Supergirl's stallion delivered more than the usual. That storyline was as daring as comics got back in the early 1960's.
  7. Five of my Spike and Tyke comics: 13 14 File copy 15 18
  8. Meanwhile they pay 10% of GPA (but only if they must) when a comic walks in the door.
  9. A horrible thought to be sure. I hate envisioning the destruction of scarce collectibles of any kind.
  10. Two correlations are very evident from the CGC data: 1) The most sought after comics by collectors these days are much more common in the census than other comics. (Check the relative quantities of #1's compared to #2's.) 2) The comics that started to be collected, i.e. hoarded, the earliest are more common. That's why Marvels are so much more common than other comics of the same age. The Marvels weren't as prone to be abused and tossed. They were much more likely to be saved. Furthermore I believe the actual number of comics in collections dwarves the number "known" as reflected in the CGC population stats. The CGC numbers nevertheless reflect the comparative ease or difficulty of finding those particular comics in the marketplace.
  11. The best wheelchair cover I can do for now: (Sorry for the washed out scan but that's the way it turned out when I first did it many years ago.)
  12. I'd give your post several likes if I could. I'll have to keep an eye out for Quick Draw McGraw 5.
  13. That can happen. My own tastes in women evolved and became somewhat more "refined" over the years as well.
  14. Big bikes have also long been Black Canary's preferred mode of transportation: Black Canary would of course be one of my alternate choices.
  15. Hmmmm. Looks better than a 6.5. What's wrong with it?
  16. Here's yet another one in the same series of ads in which I can count three comics from my present day collection: Like I say, so many different genres that it's very difficult for any one collector to get a sweep.
  17. That's close to my very favourite catfight cover but it's edged out by this one: Some interiors: Poor, poor Anthro!
