  6. Very important statement and what makes our community what it is.
  7. Haha. Agreed. If my wife bought me a comic I would have her Baker acted. About four years ago my wife and I were driving home from somewhere. We were about to pass by my LCS and I asked her if she cared if we popped in for five minutes? She said to drop her off and she would just start walking towards home and to pick her up when I drove past after. Truth.
  8. I think collecting anything fulfills a basic emotion. Happiness or joy. Whatever your focus, hopefully it brings you joy. Different things bring joy to different people. I collect comics for three main reasons, all of which bring me joy. 1. Nostalgia- I collected briefly from when I was 10 till I was 14. I lost interest but it came back 8 years ago when my daughter was born. Makes me feel like a kid again. I am 40 now and it is nice to be able to afford some good ones I could only dream about in the past. 2. Comics ignite my imagination. I love the movies, the art, the characters. All of it. 3. Collecting comics makes me a part of a community of like minded individuals. I enjoy sharing and learning and talking about comics. I also love seeing and hearing about other people’s collections.
  9. I was a “keys only” high grade snob and rare variant collector for so long. I realized about six months ago I was missing out on some of these classic silver age books. I have been snapping these up in mid-grade. I love setting them up and looking at them without fear of damaging them. My wheel house for these is 5.0-7.0. I have found some nice books with bright colors for not that expensive. Case in point...
  10. Yep. That’s what I was thinking. Batman has a couple decade head-start on Spidey.
  11. I would guess Spider-Man across all ages. Just a guess. Maybe Batman.
  12. I have definitely cracked slabs and added to a raw run of books. The older CGC slabs are much easier to open and a lot of times grade higher than the stated grade. Also, a CGC 7.0 will always look better than a comic sold as a “raw 7.0.” One trait I do not possess in abundance is patience. I have had to learn patience when building raw runs. I learned that if you are patient, no matter how old a book is and no matter what the run is, the right book will show up at the right price. Especially ASM or titles that popular.
  13. LCS pick up. I swear a fresh Mylar bumps the grade up a whole point!
  14. I didn’t read through everyone’s posts so sorry if I am repeating. Diversity is the spice of life. I like raw, graded, TPB’s, omnibuses. I just would only ever collect CGC graded books. Their cases look best in my opinion. My method is raws for all runs and modern keys under $300. CGC for older/more valuable keys.
  15. Finally!!! This closes out my rare variant girly covers collection. I want for nothing more.
  16. I love situations/people like this! It makes life interesting. I would confront absurdity with absurdity. Options I would consider. 1. Send him a message stating the books were not in the represented condition and you would like a partial refund. Then say, “JK F$&k nut!” 2. Send him a message saying that this has been the worst experience you have ever had and his communication is horrible. Then leave feedback stating the exact opposite. 3. Send him a message inquiring about another one of his books and ask if you can get the same deal as last time.
  17. Haha. All good. To each their own. If everyone agreed with all my points then life would be boring. I can agree that if you line them up the bar codes show more uniformity which can be construed by some as more aesthetically pleasing. In my mind I was considering just holding a single book. We can have completely different views on everything comic related and still be friends.
  18. I also agree that newsstands do nothing for me. On the contrary I prefer direct editions from an aesthetic point of view. I am aware of the “data” showing the value of newsstand comics. Unless you are a completionist, the only reason you would care about newsstands is money. The bar code doesn’t add to the story. The bar code doesn’t add to the visual appeal. I have no problem with rarity. I collect rare variants. The reason I like rare variants is two fold. It has a different cover and is rare. Not just rare. I have read through a lot of the conversations on these boards about newsstands and felt like piping up. Anything I say is my opinion. If you like the look of bar codes, fine. If you like the rarity, fine. If you strictly buy/collect these for potential profit, fine. As what a lot of people here say, “collect what gives you pleasure.” Lastly, I believe newsstands are a passing fad. A flavor of the month. I believe ten years from now if you have a 9.8 ASM 300 direct and a 9.8 ASM 300 newsstand most people won’t care about the difference. Just like it was ten years ago.
  19. Tail end of silver. I have been a Cap lover for years but have never owned this book. Shame. It came in to my LCS today as part of a small collection. It also left today. With me that is.
