  1. I got the same unpleasant shock when this one arrived. I walked it into a Wizard show where CGC was set up, and they said this book is too big for a normal slab, sorry
  2. You can say that, but there were Hitler sympathizers then, as even now, among Americans https://www.duluthnewstribune.com/news/4313922-captain-america-was-punching-nazis-1941-heres-why-was-so-daring
  3. When Simon and Kirby created Captain America, it was a year before Pearl Harbor. Americans feelings were mixed about Hitler and the war in Europe, with many Americans sympathizing with Hitler. So when the first Cap cover came out, with Cap punching Hitler on the jaw, there were death threats made toward Timely comics and Simon and Kirby individually. The mayor of New York assigned body guards to Simon and Kirby. Of course a year later, the events of Pearl Harbor solidified the American position against the Japanese, and by extension, Hitler.
  4. Both great books. These books look quite a bit different. Wonder if it’s a scanning thing.
  5. And I would add that I like detached centerfolds for the exact same reason: I get a price break for a book with eye appeal higher than its assigned grade. Don’t mean to hijack this thread, but just look at the grade on this book due to 2 detached folios:
  6. Ok, when the publisher perceives demand has exceeded the initial print run numbers. I see. Thanks, Gator
  7. Forgive my ignorance, but how is “different runs of the same printing” different from “a different print run”. I am so not informed technically. I am only dimly aware, but I thought there was some change to the printing plates. I thought a change to a plate resulted in a different print run
  8. Thanks woo woo. It’s great to have you for a friend. You got crazy style
  9. I know. Two print runs with a different cover mistake on both. Humble beginnings, for sure
  10. Woo woo, as always, you are right on time. So you obviously think the market treats the two versions differently
  11. I would think so, but don’t think we will ever know for sure which print run was first. It seems most likely the first run was the “no dot”, and that the “no dot” copies are much scarcer. I’ve heard there are 10 “dot” copies for every “no dot” copy. Anyway, this conundrum is what made my decide to post my query: does the market recognize a price difference between the 2 versions? Gotham Kid, whose opinion I have the utmost respect for, seems to suggest not.
  12. There’s conjecture that the “No 1” was the first print run, and the “No .1” was the second print run. As I understand it, this is conjecture only, with no likelihood ever of confirmation i would also add that I’ve been told by high post count boardies that “No .1” copies outnumber “No 1” copies by about 10 to 1
  13. Having only just recently learned of the cowl issue, and me being fearless in my ignorance, I say that’s a good question too!
  14. Hey Gator! On a Bat 1, is there a price difference between a “No .1” and a “No 1”? Should there be one? Are they both of equal value? thanks!
  15. I remember. I bought a couple of your other Dave Stevens books, similarly made out to your friend William
