I have seen and experienced damage from books sliding into the indentations in the inner well. Is there a reason for this design? A straight line across the inner well would prevent much of this shaken comic syndrome damage.
As I do not expect a complete redesign to happen any time soon, can wedges be requested on all books submitted? I have refrained from any new submissions for many years as a result of this flawed design. Any assistance would be appreciated
Thanks!

hoarding one of each of them has been my aim.
Based on your posts I would say you are doing an epic job. Presently for me it has been very challenging to make any new acquisitions without having to sacrifice something else.
I knew it was only a matter of time before we were here but It has certainly come faster then expected.

This book will never cease to boggle my mind. And to be transparent I think I helped open the flood gates on this one, as I broke GPA at least twice with two 9.8's sold in the last couple of years .
38k and 45k respectively . Shortly thereafter it really started picking up steam. I am done selling for awhile , lol.

You have two copies of #4
Two slabbed copies , the raw copies are where the magic happens . Honestly I have made a solid effort to hoard as many early ASM'S as I can, in my mind there is no better investment.

ASM #11 has always been harder to find than #12. I bought my copies both in the 90s and I remember well how easier #12 was to find compared to #11. I had several opportunities to buy high grade copies of #12 but only one opportunity to buy a high grade copy of #11 for which I did seriously overpay then (3x the price I paid for my #12!)
This is a very true statement. 12 is up there with 19 for access in higher grades. And as previously stated I would expect 11 to start ascending in price point following the recent sales , it will be very interesting to see where Scott's 9.6 lands. The person who snagged the curator copy last year must be delighted , as the underbidder on that auction I know that they were ready to pay for whatever it took.

CC just sold a 5.0 OW/W for $61K.
I think the fading on that copy hurt the hammer price just a tad, but still a solid structure on it

I am surprised that ASM 2 is still here

In my OCD world, the copy to the left is not centered (white border showing); the one on the right is. As a collector, I would only be interested in the copy on the right.
While I agree with you, neither of these would be acceptable for a keeper for me. As there are so many copies of these issues, I only look for a perfect wrap vertically and horizontally. The right side copy is the lesser of two evils but that slanted top edge would not work for me personally . Although sometimes we have to settle ;P

jordysnordy, Elmer/Dutch74 and I started a PM on Aug 2 2016 that we still have going about the difficulty and scarcity of ASM 11 in 9.0 or greater. In fact I have championed its value for some time (don't get me started about FF 7). And some of you may be aware or remember I have done over the years comparative rank spreadsheets for HG (9.0 or better) ASM 1-50 (and also FF and JIM) and I think my last posted comparative analysis was June 2019 for ASM. Here is the current situation...rank/order first total number is June 2019 and 2nd total number is today...the results are interestingly pretty much the same...just doing a snapshot of 1-5 in scarcest in 9.0 or better...
1st. 11 39/55 2nd. 1 43/74 3rd. 2 53/69 4th. 64/82 5th. 3 72/98. And there it is...only a measly 55 issues of 11 graded in 9.0 or better.
So it's pretty much the same except issues 1 and 2 flip-flopped. Granted, lots of factors regarding which books get submitted etc but I think, ultimately, the numbers don't lie. And obviously ASM 11 has that dark purple/blue black brown background that would ultimately reveal a lot of wear and tear and lower grades. Plus maybe some people "In the know" saved their #3 with minimal handling and beat the hell out of their #11
Anyway...just chiming in and certainly amazed at the serious jumps in price for many HG issues but also amazingly collectibles across the arc are churning.
Now...what to do...sit or sell...
Sell DEFINITELY ......

Best not to guess CC are stand up dealers. X-Men 1 in 9.2 is a 250k book simple as that most people could care less about that stupid sticker.
CVA stickers add value as proven by recent sales and recent resubmissions, but the QES program seem to be more incestual then CVA.
Meaning I would argue that some collectors do care about nicely presenting books that also perhaps have a sticker on them.
I think I will have a couple of mine QES/CVA/WTF certified and make some real cash :P
-
No offense but that is not a very nice looking 9.2 IMHO, and I wonder how they got the QES certification with " flawless cover edges "
That back cover top edge has a pretty nasty case of SCS as well as an impression not likely from the "flawed" CGC case design
Just another example of why they need to redesign their holder

At $36K, this goes beyond that. The last reported CGC 9.0 went for $4K two years ago -- a 200% annual growth rate. I appreciate that ASM 11 is a very tough book in high grade, and that has a lot to do with this record-breaker for a second-appearance book.
There are 18 9.0s on the census, with eight 9.2s, nine 9.4s, and seven 9.6s. Congrats to their owners.
My point was that high grade ASM'S simply are in their own price point, and collectors will pay a premium to complete runs. With the latest market trajectory it was only a matter of time until books like 11 and 2 which are harder to find went for record numbers and honestly the entire run is on fire right now. Thankfully I only need a couple of books to finish it up but anyone late to the show now has to have very deep pockets
-
Those truly shocked by the ASM 11 pricing , must not be trying to put together a high grade ASM run.

Make that 560k. For many of us yes it would be. But as stated in the past not many exist in 6.0 and higher maybe 225 but most likely less due to people submitting books over and over again. Most likely around only 150 or so exist in the entire world. That is not much for such a popular hero as Spiderman.
This is a stretch

Looking closely at the front cover scan, I do see some light smudges which in my mind would keep it at a 9.6. Nice copy, though...
I would wager that when it was a 9.4, they had the best get it to 9.6 , no doubt the ceiling on this very pressed book. I have had the diamond run copy in my hands and would venture to say that it was the better looking copy for my taste at least when it was a 9.4 as it was also pressed to a 9.6

Long enough to inflate the bids, as it happened right at closing. Mark my words there will be some RECORD ASM numbers today

I dont event know if anyone will see this in time, but I was looking for some information and hope someone can help me.
I saw in the CGC weekly mailer they pubbed an auction for Pedigree Comics. I looked into it and it seems like a smaller auction site, like my comic shop. I have some interest in some of the books being auctioned tonight, but didnt know about the reputation of this site or operation. I googled the owner/operator Doug Schmell and this thread popped up. It seems he had some trouble in the past but I don't know details.
What I want to know is this site reputable and should I be concerned buying books and sending money. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Doug will certainly send you what you paid for usually quite promptly, I personally stick to a BUY IT NOW format or books with an agreed on price.

So Devils advocate here, if upon resubmission the book came back unrestored or a higher graded PLOD would you be contacting the seller to pay more?
-
It's a beautiful book and I have not doubt Scott has a good reason to acquire the capital. I did cringe a bit seeing the back top edge, CGC really needs to smooth out their inner well issues.
And for those of you wondering why don't raw collectors slab everything , I think they are safer outside a CGC holder IMHO.
GSXM 1 19 year old Slab 5.5?
in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?

Definitely anxious to see your results , these square bound books can be very tricky to press. I have seen many a copy with protruding staples after pressing. But this looks like a good cleaning candidate
