Its a tough black cover but I personally haven't had any problems finding a high grade copy. forIt (Meaning it USED to be an easier find, these books are very old acquisitions) I am glad to see that it is finding a premium price for HTF aspect.  Slabbed and raw both HG

Yes, it doesn't make sense, they both had same page quality and the 9.0 did present better except maybe for that little chip out on right edge. I think the 9.0 price was a good deal for the buyer in today's market.

4 is a tougher issue to find in my experience, That 3 was a board members old copy.

I was just browsing this topic and found this discussion. FWIW, I sent a scan of that book to Matt Nelson and he said it was an honest book and not one that would bother him. At any rate, it’s a beautiful book, if it were unrestored it’s probably at least a couple of million dollars in this market.
Personally, I think that the market probably punishes restored books too much. Restoration is accepted in all antique furniture and rugs, even cars and paintings. If I had to guess, it’s CGC’s work. IMHO, the day will probably come when such books trade for 20-25% of unrestored ones of the same grade. There are just so many new collectors and so few high-grade keys that the law of supply and demand will drive them up. But what do I know LOL. It is an interesting subject for sure.

    Couple of million?

Pretty sure this is the same book that was a 9.6 , slight color touch that Hammer snagged cheap before the market went bananas.

And yes it is a stunner, that we can agree on

Don't think this is an IGB book, at all.

If they can bring a Batman 1 to 9.6 sans trimming or a Hulk 1 to 9.8 again sans trimming (or other examples of super high grade restored books), they wouldn't need to on this book.

Hammer aka Dupcak bought a SP 9.6 AF 15 a few years ago for under 10k ( slight color touch)

I personally think this is the After copy .

The 9.6 purchase was mentioned on these boards .

    Just an educated guess anyway

Curious. Why were you NARU'd? I don't see any negs.

How can you re-register after being NARU'd? Shill ID?

I would not pay the final value fees for that ASM 20, once they are paid they will register me again .

Look don't get me wrong I am happy to help clear the air, but I have been selling for along time with some big books moving on Ebay , on the boards and privately. This isn't about me it is about the buyer

Be very cautious if you are doing business with him , I would avoid him at all costs .

I am no longer on ebay as a result of this fiasco , now I will pay the FVF'S but likely will not re-register . Auction houses or dealers will be my preferred venue moving forward as there are too many guys like this one that are there. I have done a lot of business on this board and this is where I will stay.

I hope that this thread saved someone from getting taken by this guy.

    Thanks for listening

This guy is a complete liar. I won the book from this guy and more than a week passed and i emailed him to see if he shipped my book and i got no response. I called him and no response. I texted him and no response. I messaged him through eBay and no response. I opened a case against him and miraculously he contacted me a day after i opened the case. I asked him why he didn’t contact me and he said he was on vacation. Keep in mind this was around the time the pandemic started. Who the hell goes on vacation during a pandemic? You didnt have your phone with you? So he shipped the book like a week later and i see it says delivered. I look at the tracking and it says my neighbor who i cant stand signed for it. I went to the post office, checked with my neighbor and no book. I finally got the book delivered to my house after 2 months. Keep in mind this clown didnt insure a 5600 dollar book! Keep in mind this is coming from a guy who isnt a registered user last time i checked. I have 100 percent positive feedback and have sold a ton of books.

What a load of , book was shipped a few days after auction closing fully insured

When he won the book he was unable to pay in full and asked for an additional week to pay, it took him almost 3, but I thought I was helping out another collector not a thief.

That is why there was a shipping delay

This is the extent that I will entertain this any longer , I hope it serves as a PSA for some, if not I guess you will take your chances.

Something doesn't seem right here.  I checked eBay feedback for REDSKINSFAN (ebayer: daddyyankee1970) and he at least seems to be legit.

@UncleBEN can you post the eBay I.D. you sold this book under and address the issues that the buyer raised in the above post?

I had no doubt that this buyer/seller would continue lying about stealing this book from me.

I have kept all the communications from the onset of the transaction and they are pretty all like this:

If I had the book I would tell you. What did the post office tell you? I don’t appreciate the insinuation that I have the book. I asked my neighbors and went to the post office. The mailman dropped the ball.

@blazingbob sold it to me originally under the exact same cert number, when I upgraded I sold it on Ebay. Then all this happened . My guess is that he failed at defrauding me on the chargeback as they finally resolved in my favor and now he is forced to sell as his scam failed.'

If he continues to deny the allegations and slander me I will just submit my evidence to his local authorities, USPS , and the Feds as it crossed state lines.

Bottomline is it is no technically his book as his credit card company sided with me after months of dispute, I am just warning other collectors out there to be very cautions with this guy as he is very dishonest.

  9. I really did not want to post this

But this guy is one to be careful with

Long story short , I sold him this copy a few months ago that I originally purchased from Bob Storms

Before it was received he initiated a chargeback, and upon delivery redirected it to his neighbors house, and tried to claim non receipt

After months of the CC company holding my money they sided in my favor and now miraculously the book has appeared.

I know many collectors on this board that might be looking for a copy like this but I would recommend extreme caution with this guy.

Just my .02, I don't want anyone else to be defrauded by Frank Justiniano (Daddyyankee1970)

Thanks for listening I hope this serves as a PSA and thats all.

    Brian,

Yes, they do lose books. I submitted in May a 98 New Mutants comic and was submitted properly. What I thought was going to be pressed, then restored with any problems they see, ended up taking 4 months and what I got back was the facsimile version. That's not what I had. I purchased my book in a newstand in a small town in PA 25+ years ago. Excited to see a grading company did this sort of thing I submitted a couple books to try it out before I sent in my holy grail. As for the value, that didn't happen either. I valued the book at $480 and what they offered was $250. I can't find this comic for the price. Good news though!!! They did let me keep the facsimile, which to me is worthless. Take photos!!! I regret not taking any. Once I seen my book was put in their system I didn't think I had to worry.

Pics? I am skeptical at this post

Please expand on how you use them on Ebay. I've never seen an option to use either one when I pay for an item. I'd drop PP in a heartbeat if I knew it wasn't going to hamstring me in any way.

Just remove PayPal as a payment option .
You still can accept credit cards as a payment option through either .

When the auction closes the seller contacts you for an invoice . You send them an invoice through stripe or square and it's a done deal .

Ebay allows for sellers to have buyers email address to complete payment .

And they accept and allow either per their TOS .

Once you get rid of PayPal you will never go back . I can promise you that , they are the worst !!

  12. I prefer Stripe or Square to PayPal , less fees no holds , better customer service and instant transfers.

Stripe also has some terrific tools for tracking sales .

Both are extremely easy to use on eBay or wherever you may roam

  13. The only caveat is that USPS is especially hard on registered mail in mine and others experience .
The last big  book I shipped this way ended up with a cracked slab and it was package to ensure an atomic explosion .

No clue how it ended up damaged , thankfully it was just a reholder as it could have been a very bad situation as they only insure for 25k

    So plan accordingly

Yeah it’s in the description of the auction above, it’s 1 of 2 top highest. The last big copy that was at auction was that 9.4 in a ComicLink auction that sold for around $40K.

The last 3 9.4 that sold on ComicLink  was the Twin Cities copy and it went for $28K, a very lackluster result if you ask me .

The flipper , I mean buyer is trying to sell it for 60 k on eBay now as he does with many books

I don't think this 9.8 is going to do as well as anticipated  as some of the top buyers are not going after it .

I would love to see the other GRADED  9.8 for  comparison as this copy appears slightly over graded . Is it in a registry set ?

But don't get me wrong it's a beautiful copy and way out of my price range or desire really . Top census single digit ASMS just don't make sense to me monetarily , as I would rather have a run of  9.0-9.4's personally .

I have CIS and they do not cover insurance if CGC is reholdering. I asked. They only cover shipping phase with signature. That’s what’s keeping me from changing my AF15 second generation holder

Of course they don't , I don't know any insurance that covers damage by another party . Just like they wouldn't cover damage you caused . Say you dropped a slab or tore a page while reading , etc .... perhaps I miss read the posters thread but he was concerned about shipping loss .
