My first Baker romance book. As I said in the cigar thread, this one was overgraded and I overpaid, but I really don't care. I couldn't find any sales on Heritage or eBay and not copies for sale on Comiclink or Metro. Plus, the book gets singled out in The Ten-Cent Plague on page 161.

I overpaid and it was overgraded, but in the big scheme of things I really don't care:
I have three other books that arrived yesterday, but those will be posted in their own thread.
-
I was at dinner with the wife last night and I mentioned romance comics. She's been married to a comic-book fan for 15 years. Her response was, "They made romance comics? Like for women?"
When we got home I showed her my copy of Teen Age Romance. She looked at it for about three times as long as other books get, which is six seconds as opposed to two.
-
No sooner did I post my response to Baltimore Lauren's post then I remembered the Archie-Common People mashup.

I always thought Jughead and Veronica would make an interesting couple, IMO.
She came from Greece, she had a thirst for knowledge
She studied sculpture at Saint Martin's College
That's where I caught her eye
She told me that her Dad was loaded
I said "In that case I'll have rum and coca-cola
She said "fine"
And then in 30 seconds time she said
"I want to live like common people
I want to do whatever common people do
I want to sleep with common people
I want to sleep with common people like you"
Well what else could I do?
I said "I'll see what I can do"
I took her to a supermarket
I don't know why
but I had to start it somewhere
so it started there
I said "pretend you've got no money"
but she just laughed
and said "oh you're so funny"
I said "Yeah
Well I can't see anyone else smiling in here
Are you sure
you want to live like common people
you want to see whatever common people see
you want to sleep with common people
you want to sleep with common people like me?"
But she didn't understand
she just smiled and held my hand

The woman's face and hands aren't Bakerish. And the pose isn't as fluid as Baker would do it. It doesn't have the extra "oomph" that Baker's art has and is a bit wooden when compared to his style. Look at the woman's figure on the cover of "It Rhymes With Lust." A very static cover, but she still has a certain grace to her that the Saint cover doesn't have. I'm still in the not-Baker camp.
when you gonna pull that bottom line off your sig line?
When I get off my and change it. Maybe after I get the books so I know they don't get lost in the mail or something tragic like that.

After many years, I finally cracked this baby out of the holder, and I'm much happier with it now. Classic Baker cover in my opinion.
Ken
IMHO
It doesn't look like Baker to me. Did he ever work for Avon?
bb
I agree. Not Baker, IMHO. Not Baker according to OS also.
But it's still a great cover and a nice book. Are the innards as good as the cover?

must resist urge to add Planets to my collecting list
They're already expensive enough... go away
Yeah, what he said.

Mine are not 9.0's, but I forgot I had them, till I saw this post...I love your's:) but if you want to see the run together...this will have to do for now (no 9, )
Awesome books, Billy, Bedrock and Sharon!! I briefly dipped my toes into the JUMBO pool, but had to pull back and focus. Your books are gorgeous.
I apparently jumped in feet first into the deep end. I've got 40 or 50 Jumbos tucked away in a short box. Group shot when I finish the Sky Girls. Probably late 09 or early 10. (3010 at the rate I'm going right now.)

I just posted a few Fiction House books for sale in the marketplace.

Space Adventures 7 Jul-53 Giordano cover. Sort of an accident but a terrific gold story and a strange sex-change story.
"Strange Sex Change Stories"
Sounds like a Carmine Infantino/Jeff Jones title.

'Tec 140, all day, every day.

Adventure, 'Tec.
Wowguy just doesn't do it for me. And Batman is way better than Superman.

Three of these four Sheenas were my Wondercon pick-ups. Can you guess which three?
-
Just got back from WonderCon. I was ready to give up going to Con's (at least for the purpose of buying) until the discovery of this baby at Harley's booth
I mini grail for me
(thats a cat hair that was on my scanner across the price)
I got to flip through this book after the show. It's beautiful.

I think Baker preferred red. He dressed up Mysta in a green dress when she traveled in cognito.
Although it looks like the giant ants thought the girls in red dresses were mighty tasty. Ladies first.

I think you're right BB...the first thing I noticed when Baker began to catch my eye was that almost every great cover he had was made with some red in it. Great observation!
I'm going to diagree with that observation. Chances are that Baker probably had nothing to do with the coloring decisions. I suspect color was done by a house staffer. And red is a good color choice because it's bright and catches the eye.
P.S. Thanks for the Mysta scans. Love 'em!

wow...
That's what I said.

That is a super cool book Billy (thumbs u
That offer I made outside the Enchanted Tiki Room is still open.

Not a cover, and I don't think I've posted this before, but I figured you Archie fans would enjoy this:
It's the original art to a one-page piece called "Veronica's Hair Care Tips." I bought it at Wondercon 1992 then searched all over for the comic it appeared in. Had them both framed side by side a little later.

The latest addition to my Fiction House collection:
:applause:
I got into a new Fight myself today
Nice. IIRC, there are no giant red bats in the Tiger Girl story.
-
It's a tough call....but I'd go with the AA #16 simply because of the grade and eye appeal although on any given day I could choose the Superman #1 because it is one of the coolest comics ever.
What he said.

At what point was it determined that Jughead shouldn't like girls? I like him better as someone who likes girls, but perhaps is disdainful of going after every pretty girl a la Archie.
