  1. There's more than enough factors in what can affect the condition of a comic that you shouldn't assume anything and ensure you get a good look at them first
  2. I empathize with you. I collected from the late 70's to 80's upon which they took up permanent residence in my bedroom closet where I grew up until I moved them to the basement of the house I bought. 2 years ago I was home for a bit and started to think about with I was going to do with them after all this time. Like you, my kids had no interest in them and I was thinking about the need to eventually downsize since I was in my mid 50's. So I started the whole education process (CGC, these forums, Ebay etc). Time is still much on my side so I am in no rush, but I have found the entire process to be very enjoyable from participating on these boards to dealing with buyers on Ebay. Maybe not regaining passion like others have mentioned here but it has brought back some of the joy I experienced back then. Good Luck & I echo the last sentiment Mmehdy said.
  3. The 1st thing any of the knowledge posters on slab damage (which isn't me) will ask for is pictures (incl corners). Plus to get an idea of the condition of the comic. W/O being an expert, I don't think slab tampering is something you should generally be concerned about. A comic can shift around in the slab during shipping causing damage but w/o pics it would impossible for anyone to say if that's a possibility in your case. I do believe CGC can regrade a comic if it's obvious to them the grade doesn't hold anymore but I don't know how common that is/ Did the Ebay listing have good pictures? Since it's Ebay, you can always try to return it if you feel it's not as advertised.
  4. Another non Marvel One - One one weekly trip to my LCS back around 1980, I found a Demon 1 in the dollar bin (posted it on a few threads here in the past) Once home, upon opening I noticed a sig on the bottom of the splash page:
  5. if no one can give a definitive answer, post it on the Ask CGC forum I would think since CGC is cracking it for a regrade they would update the census count. I've read posts before about people cracking them out of slabs themselves and being able to send in the label so CGC could update their records, so I would imagine this would be treated similarly
  6. Ebay also allows "automatic rejections" where the seller can set a threshold and any offers below that generate an immediate rejection. The seller won't even be aware unless he looks at the listings to see if there were offers. Not that I've sold a lot of slabs, but every one has had at last 1 offer 50% below what I was asking (and they were priced based on goCollect data)
  7. Do you feel the seller is offering a fair price? If the data is available, see what recent sales are for copies in similar shape vs what you are comfortable paying. Offer what you think is a fair price regardless of any higher listing price. You can try to get more off but you risk someone else buying a book u want
  8. Saga Swamp Thing #1 & Swamp Thing #67 (Hellblazer preview) https://www.ebay.com/itm/324375746302 Swamp Thing 65, 66, 68-71 plus Annual 3 & 4 https://www.ebay.com/itm/324375763427 Swamp Thing 72-78 https://www.ebay.com/itm/324375767124 Swamp Thing 79-85 https://www.ebay.com/itm/324375776659 Swamp Thing 86-92 https://www.ebay.com/itm/324375779675
  9. Inner cover also has a small piece missing. I agree with revat
  10. Comics do not meet the eligibility requirements for Media mail. But there is such a volume of them being sent that way that most of the packages get delivered, at least that's been my experience
  11. Plenty of YouTube videos on packing comics showing how to make a "brick" Many listings of drek lots offer Media Mail, which gives you the cheapest shipping, but allows the Post Office to open them up for inspection and send them back to you as ineligible. Your other options are 1st class (13 oz) or Priority. I sometimes use Pirate Ship which offers cubic Priority mai prices EbayBuyers can return items regardless of your policy.
  12. You mean like they would open the book up so the front & back could be seen as one flat(ish) piece? No they don't do that
  13. Without knowing what grade you'll eventually get back, I'd say what would be your replacement cost if you wanted to buy a raw copy in the same condition? (eg what have copies in similar shape sold for on Ebay)
  14. https://www.cgccomics.com/news/article/8274/dropping-off-submissions-at-cgc-headquarters/
  15. I forget the thread, but not all that long ago there were posts about the types of pens and how they hold up from a press
  16. Buying 9.8 raw candidates (if that's all you're interested in) off of Ebay is going to be quite the adventure IMO. I'd think it'd be easier to just buy slabbed 9.8s that scour for raw candidates and submit hoping they pass a pre-screen
  17. No, CGC Signature Series is only for comics witnessed by CGC representatives
  18. You mean a volume discount on the price? No - poss if you are a regular submitter who submits comics over and over. But if you're contemplating submitting 10 vs 20 comics it will be at the prices stated on the website
  19. well without those stains I would've said around 5.0-5.5 but I'd think it would comeback very low due to what looks like a water stain that's affecting at least the front/back/splash page & poss more
  20. is that water damage on the back cover ULC? Looks like it goes thru the whole book since the splash page corner looks affected from it. If so then I'm doubtful a press would help given the hit you would take for a stain like that
  21. So? Plenty of conversations on these boards among people who aren't 'peers'. Why would that be needed to explain a point like 'greedy pressers'?
