  1. Hi, you didn't give any info about your knowledge of the hobby, experience with selling or grading the condition of comics, what your time frame is etc Sounds like you're off to the right start, just go thru them and note titles/issues. Even with 5000 that shouldn't take that long if that's all you're noting. How aware are you of the various auction sites like Heritage/Comic Link & Connect, MyComicShop etc where you could either just sell the whole collection to them or have them sell it for you? While I've never used any of them there's plenty of good folks here who have used them & others. If you haven't already, I would suggest going thru their websites to see their selling process. I would think selling any major keys (ie GSX 1; ASM 50 etc) individually would be a good move. Good luck
  2. Haven't done it in a while myself but I remember it being actually pretty easy. Try this and see if it works for you To do this from My eBay: Go to the Sold - opens in new window or tab section. Select the items you want to combine into a single invoice. Add the new shipping charge. From the Actions menu, select Send Invoice.
  3. I believe more than 1 grader looks at a book. Size & severity also come into play in addition to a count of defects. If you read enough posts you'll see various mentions to periods where it seems there's stricter grading or looser grading. Maybe that relates to staff turnover.
  4. some small creases on the spine & LRC . I'll say 8.5 Nice looking book! edit to add I missed what stingrayiii noticed - that mark by the left side of the near top of her head which could certainly take it down more than the defects I noticed
  5. no worries - CGC will open it and discard the bag. Also, you can always contact their customer service or try the 'Ask CGC' forum.
  6. I have a Wolverine 1 with an ULC which looked like the left picture. After a press it got a 9.6
  7. It may also depend on how much volume someone does. I sell maybe 1 per week on average at best. At that rate I can get by via cutting up boxes we receive when sandwiching comics between boards and I can save the paper/bubble wrap/popcorn or scrounge from work etc. Higher volume sellers can't get by on that and need to know they have available materials - which means purchasing them.
  8. Media Mail runs the risk that you receive it with extra postage due plus the P.O. is free to open the package and inspect it. Happened to me once over 30-40 sales. Priority mail boxes/envelopes are free from the Post Office but if someone is using their own supplies, they may spread out the cost over all their sales even when using Prioiriy Mail. They may bump up the S&H in order to lower the the auction/BIN price as people may not focus on the S&H price.
  9. CGC will examine the book for signs of restoration (color touch etc) but the act itself of pressing/cleaning, as performed by CCS (or 3rd party pressers) does not cause a book to be declared restored. Pressing/cleaning does not guarantee any increase in grade and there is always the chance that it could damage the comic. If you send in a slabbed restored book for pressing/cleaning it will come back as restored as will get graded again like it's the 1st time they ever saw it
  10. Are you hoping for a 9.8 or worried it may not keep a 9.6? There's no way to say if a pressing would help it w/o seeing the book. Do you know what kept it from being a 9.8 (ie are there any grader notes)? You could always put some good scans in the Buddy Can You spare a Grade forum, though it's tough to tell the diff between 9.6 & 9.8 from just pics. With those thicker covers, you can get a crease down the spine from just bending the cover open to read it
  11. out of about 2 dozen packages sent, 1 came back to me and required additional postage. They had written all over the package that 'comics weren't media mail' I have 2 Post office locations near me and it was the smaller one which inspected it. That was the only package that went ever thru that particular branch I will add that the books are always sandwiched between cardboard pieces in a bubble mailer envelope (on 1 or two occasion a box was used) and when/if they asked me what was inside, I said books.
  12. looks pretty sharp. Bottom of the spine has an issue. Maybe 1 or 2 very small tics on the spine I'll say 9.4
  13. I liked Miller/Jansen a bit more than Byrne/Austin. I was always surprised at the diff when I saw Miller's work without him.
  14. The point of any hobby is to enjoy the time and money you put into it. No one can tell you ur right or wrong for what u get out of it. If you fully understand the financials of ur decisions then go for it. Also nothing wrong with taking ur time if there's parts u font fully understand. IMO read a copy of the Overstreet 2016 grading guide. Plenty of YouTube videos on why to press. Good luck
  15. personally I alternate every other book
  16. I collected during both their hey-days. I always liked Perez's work a bit more than Byrne's
  17. There was a thread somewhere around here about the things people use to fill the empty space to get the books to sit in there perfectly upright. Maybe try some searches and you can uncover it. I forget where it was at. I do remember posters saying not to use bubble wrap as the gasses could affect the comics. Some used rags.
  18. The turnaround times in the grading tiers just means how many working days it should take once they log the book into their system As Avi said, the value you specify on the submission form drives the tier level, the insurance if something happens while CGC is in possession of the book and the insurance with the mail carrier for the trip back to you. You can put any value you want depending on how comfortable you are with risk and time. CGC may up the book to a higher FMV on their own as charge you the difference. I've heard of it happening and I've heard (& experienced) it not happening.
  19. You can always use USPS registered mail which forces the package to get logged every step of the way. it's slower, but more secure.
