Either a misunderstanding about older CGG holders, or phishing for a partial refund. About a week after delivery he messaged me saying slab was full of cracks and that the sides were not sealed. I asked him for pictures, which he sent, but did not answer my questions about the corners and if they were still intact. Timing was suspect, book was delivered almost a week after he messaged me. I asked him if he wanted to return the book, then said he’d keep it.
The pictures he sent me.
Full of cracks?
And that is why I made 2022 my last year selling on eBay. Nothing but a headache now.

Detective Comics 29 (3rd Batman)
I don’t really collect Batman because I just can’t afford it. I always wanted a pre- Robin comic. This page is close enough for me. My favorite panel is him slowly opening the window, the way his golden age cowl is drawn made him always look pissed off, I love it.
Superman 1
Great piece, golden age Superman became my preferred version of the character in 2022. I didn’t realize how water down the hero became, a shame really.
Action Comics 252( 1st Supergirl)
I remember reading reprint silver age stories of Supergirl at the library. The way she had to hide both her identities up until AC 285 was an interesting take. Kara trying to help kids get adopted always made for a decent story. Never thought I would own a copy of her first appearance when I was younger.

Seems to me folks toss up books just to flex. They know the price listed is ridicules but to them who cares "I have it and you don't." I also think a lot of big books are listed just for bait, to get some eyes on lower tier books. Finally every offer is a lowball when your prices are from peak 2021.

I have been picking up any minor to major Superman key I can afford simply because love of character. But now that uncle Gunn is writing, casting and probably directing a new Superman movie that’s even more incentive for me to keep hunting. At that price range( on the higher end of course) you can probably find a very low grade AC 242.

Honestly I think the hobby would be a much more positive place if everything was blue and the defects (both intentional and unintentional) were taken into consideration in the same way. Too much has been made of some villain in his basement applying color touch versus a kid playing with his marker trying to make his beloved comic look nicer. They’re both the same thing when it comes to its effect on a book. Just make it blue, hammer it for its flaws, and let the color discrimination die.
Too late for this I know, but I find the color coding and the vitriol and hate that it brings with it to be the biggest turnoff of this hobby for me.
Hey if nothing else it would benefit the books themselves. Maybe folks would restore that gold or silver age grail instead of allowing it to rot with rusty staples and mold just to avoid that purple label.

I purchased a PO box just so I can still use USPS. Made the decision after FedEx forged my signature and dropped my AC22 at the wrong address. How did I find my package? By literally driving around my neighborhood. I 100% looked like a package thief, jumping out my car, grabbing it and driving off. Never again.

That is why I see no need to rush, I'm not even 30, not to sound rude or dark but all I have do is wait. Not every kid or grandkid in this country will follow the instructions left behind by the previous owner and will sell for pennies on the dollar. Will I pick up a Amazing Fantasy 15 or All-American Comics 16 at a yard sale? Probably not but the hunt will still be awesome. Of course this only applies if I don't get run over by a bus tomorrow.

Hi Scott, I appreciate you taking the time to review the book. Good information that will certainly be taken into consideration for future editions. I welcome feedback from others as well!
I do want to address a few things you mention; yes, there is plenty of information that doesn't necessarily pertain to grading defects, like the pedigree and reprint/variant sections. But these attributes are an essential part of the "grading" process that establishes value and demand. A significant portion of the guide's audience may not know things you and I learned a long time ago, like label categories, enhancement, ideal storage conditions, or even how to properly handle a book.
There are grade range cutoffs for many defects listed in the index of grades, and also throughout several other areas in the book, particularly for certain defects in the defect section. Some defects are impossible to quantify or provide cutoffs, like stains, tanning and foxing. But the majority of comics exhibit a combination of defects, and to cover most, or even a significant range of those combinations would require way more than 1, 5 or even 10 pictures per grade, especially in the lower grades.
The guide was laid out to flow from the most broad topics to a granular level, and is meant to give collectors the tools to grade. Accurate grading ultimately requires handling thousands of books--something no grading guide can teach in 350 pages. For new collectors, this book establishes a solid foundation to build on, but there's also plenty of detailed information for the more seasoned collectors.
Is this a bad time to ask for DC custom labels?
