Overall, prices for the majority of items were soft…a good buying opportunity for those into Bagley and J Scott Campbell art…prices were very soft on these items.

the Art Adams Nightcrawler cover and Batgirl were also particularly poor performers.

the McSpidey half-splash at $51K … on the one hand, seemed kinda light for a half splash, but it featured d-level villains.  Yet it had a great ‘discombobulated hips’ Spidey middle panel.  I was expecting $50K at the very low end, $75K at the upper end.

also noticed a lot more items than usual with reserve prices.  Perhaps a hedge against another unscheduled shutdown? Decreased confidence in Clink’s performance? A weakening market?

    Thoughts?

Maybe consignors not wanting to lose their pants on their art?

No one at CGC was qualified to grade cards before they opened CGC Trading Cards. No one at CGC was qualified to grade games before they opened CGC Video Games. Whenever they've opened a new branch they always hire new personnel for that branch. There are plenty of reasons why CGC going into authenticating OA might not be a good idea, but CGC not having anyone right now to work on it isn't one of them.

You can hire anyone. Just because CGC hires someone who collects art, doesn’t make them able to authenticate art.
They would have to hire someone who has been involved for decades.

At this risk of offending the board hosts, why would I even trust CGC's authentication? There are many practices already that make me doubt their integrity as an objective judge. It feels to me like the only thing driving their comics grading is the price boost over any other grader. The accuracy of the grade is secondary.

    As I have posted before…

Who at CGC is qualified to authenticate art?

I doubt that even “regular” art dealers in the US get enough walk-in business to justify a physical location. See also: Mr Glass in Unbreakable.

Those bbqs hosted by Mike seem to be at his home, dubbed the “Romitamansion” on Dueling Dealers.  Apparently it is spacious from what can be observed in Mike’s “CAF cribs”  entry on youtube.

A Comic Art Gallery is a severe waste of money. Rent, utilities, framing, advertising, only to get a couple people a week. It was quite lonely there 5 days a week.
As a former gallery owner I can attest to all the above.

Way back when, I went up and visited @artdealer  We later went for lunch (burgers) with Berni Wrightson. Does that count ?

Until you mentioned it, I completely forgot about that lunch.
As a rule, I don’t have many people up here.
In 32 years, I can count the number of people I’ve had here on 1 1/2 hands.
And the people that have come here have been invited.

I've seen many on here discuss the authenticity of Bob Kane pieces, with many discussing them being forged/faked. At Torpedo Con yesterday, I bought this Kane piece from a very credible dealer, who I trust significantly, but since I'm new to collecting I have anxiety over my first pickup. The first two images are of the piece I purchased, with the ones after that being similar examples seen on Heritage and the PSA website. Something interesting is that on the back of the paper the sketch is on, it says "Whitney Museum of American Art", which Bob Kane has had his art on display there previously, making me think that maybe he did it while there. Using the font the text was printed in, I can determine it's Arial font, putting the piece likely being made in the 80s. How does the piece look? Any immediate issues found? Authentic? Opinions appreciated.

Even “credible” dealers can be wrong.

I’m not saying this is a fake or not.

Only about half of the first issue of Ronin is out in the wild.
Miller sold some years ago. It’s why you see the same few pages pop up all the time.
