A dealer who shall go nameless (on second thought, Bechara) told me he never raises prices on art after he sets the initial price (which he used to justify why he wouldn’t bargain over lower pricing). For quite a while, he had an Aparo page listed at $1,800. He now has another Aparo page from the same series at $2,200. And guess what just went up to $1,950? Now, I have even less reason to buy it.
Him not raising prices is a load of bird poo.

All dealer websites should have art marked up.
The question was asked what dealer prices art at reasonable values vs. ones that everything seems to be overpriced.
The only reason I jumped in here was it hit home for me this month when I saw the Daredevil Yellow page go for one price, and then a week later, there was a significant markup on the same page on his site. I was trying to say my perception now is the prices on his site are not reasonable but overpriced because he lists art very soon after the purchase and then lists them with a considerable markup.
He might not even be aware of this possible perception people might have. It doesn't matter to me. I was giving my two cents.
Oh, I’m quite sure he is aware of the perception. But some dealers just don’t care

The dealer site that comes to mind for me first is Panel Page Art.
I don't know if Glen Brunswick realizes that all of the art he buys or consigns after it was recently purchased goes on his site with a huge markup, that makes me think that everything is overpriced.
Whether the art is genuinely overpriced or not, it's hard not to get that impression.
I’m pretty sure Glen realizes the art on his site has a markup, since it’s his website

Panel Page Art is Glen Brunswick.
Graphic Collectibles is Mitch Itkowitz.
I doubt either one wants to be confused with the other.
I can see where someone could confuse Glen and I.

All I’m looking for is a nice Kirby page from the late 40s/ early 50s.
I had to sell my collection to pay to pay for restoration of my back yard due to massive erosion.

It looks like someone dumped their entire Spectre/Dr. Fate collection on HA. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but it’s a very focused group of covers and pages, much more so than I’ve seen in the past.
I wonder whose collection this was. The estate of the late Jerry Bails?
Not Jerry Bails.
I’m not at liberty to say whose collection it is.
Suffice to say, I sold a lot of it to him back in the mid 70s to mid 80s -

My personal opinion is that Hulk cover, is one of the best 3 non Warlock or Captain Marvel covers Starlin drew in that time period.

As a Spectre fan, the cup overfloweth in this auction and it's requiring a strategy with so many quality lots. I'd argue that, if I'm having to strategize, then it's way too much all at once...

Yes, you’re pretty much correct.
I sold a lot of art to the consignor back in the 70s and early 80s.
I used to own the Showcase #64 cover. Bought it from the Steranko art catalog back in 77 for $50. Sold it to the consignor in 79.

You are correct, Mitch.
Some dealers are having to pull art from their own collections to refresh their websites.
I do think auctions cause FOMO bidding, whereas dealer website art is thought of as “ah, it will still be there in a month, IF I still want it.”
The dealers that receive art on consignment from collectors are mostly told by those collectors what to price their art at.
Hence the extreme prices. When consigned art doesn’t sell, you’ll see posts offering the art at a discount. When it doesn’t sell then, it goes to auction.

Bough one piece from a book that I had been looking for (for a while now). Very reasonable.
Heidjer, it’s only “bringing” if it sells. Otherwise, it doesn’t mean anything but a number

I’m not sure how they can still compete with Heritage and C-Link and the results those auction houses get. I’m not a dealer, but I know just about all of them and most are just struggling to get good art in. To do that, they are having to pay the higher prices and that makes them have to charge higher prices.
I’m not defending them, but I also won’t get on here and bash them the way so many do.
Michael, you forget that a couple dealers take most of their inventory on consignment, myself included.
I'm betting that if they had to buy their stock, what with most of it not selling, they would be in serious financial trouble.
To speak of only myself, at 66, I’m certainly not paying prices to have to try to resell at a much higher price, cause I’d be taking to my grave.
Sales show that collectors would rather pay the high prices from auctions than dealers who have either had their pieces for years, or super-over aggressively price their art, effectively “phishing” for a price/sale.

I notice some more silver age DC goodness popping up in the January signature auction after this- a couple Toth pages from Brave and Bold 53 so far- I'm wondering if an old collector with a massive SA DC stash is unloading over the course of a couple auctions (kind of like the Murphy Anderson page dump)
A good portion is coming from one collector.
I know this as many of the originals in the auction, I sold to the collector in the 70s and 80s

No. Once you show interest, the price shoots up $200,000 more.

I used to own this about 47 years ago.
Can’t bring myself to tell what I paid for it.
Something I never should have sold.
